mount problems with recent mount and samba
I have a problem mounting Samba shares with recent mount packages from
RedHat and Samba packages from samba site. I have tried samba-2.2.4 RPM
and samba-2.2.5 (built for RH7.2). In all cases mount fails if I use
RH mount package version > 2.11b (current is 2.11n). If I also use
Samba packages (2.2.4) from RedHat Rawhide - everyhting works
Here is detailed description I have submitted to RH

smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt
Hi,
I am deploying samba for an embedded system. The requirement is that the
system should be able to mount windows share points. I believe "smbmount,
smbumount and smbmnt" components are needed to do the same. I am not very
clear about smbmnt though!
I find that smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt are all quite huge. Around 300
to 400Kb each.
I understand that Samba is capable of doing

smbfs input/output error
Hello All,
I had a problem with 2.0.3 on RH6.0 (linux) where a mount of an NT
server share on my linux machine would mysteriously die after a period of
time (a long time? not being used? don't know why, but hours of unuse). I
would get an "input/output error" when I tried to do a df later. To get
around the problem, I found I needed to "umount" (not smbumount) the

If I try to mount:
erno@flinker:~$ mount /notebook/D:

Mounting for non-root users
This has been asked before but the answers haven't worked for me.I upgraded from 2.2.7 to 3.0.0. I used to connect to Windows sharesusing smbmnt in .bash_profile as a non-root user having chmod 4755smbmnt. Now this doesn't work: - smbmount won't let non-root users run it (even after a chmod) - smbmnt says "Failed to find real path for mount point" - mount -t smbfs says

problems mounting smbfs
I've spent the last 2 days trying to get smbfs to mount via fstab.
Using redhat 7.3 and the latest samba as of 7/17/02.
I can mount from the command line using smbmount as follows:
smbmount //localhost/wwwshare /smbwww -o username=smbuser,password=xxxxxxxx
I can not mount from the command line using:
mount -t smbfs -o username=smbuser,password=xxxxxxxx //localhost/wwwshare /smbwww

mounting smbfs
I am having trouble mounting a smbfs mount in redhat 7.3.
I have read the man pages for mount, smbmount, smbmnt, but haven't had
much luck. I am thinking I am just getting the syntax wrong. If I wanted
to mount a system on my network with the ip address of 192.168.0.1, What
would the syntax be for this?
Any info would be of much help to me, Thank-You

samba problems
I have a question about samba.
I found the smbmnt documentation but my fedora core 6 doesn't seem to
recognize the command. Is there something Else I need to check to see
why this is the case? The swat program seems to think things are OK.
Thanks Jim

smbmnt and disabling mtab update
Hi,
I'm trying to run smbmount on a machine with the root filesystem mounted
as read only (it is a little embedded Linux PC which I want to pick up
some files from its controlling NT box).
The problem is that smbmnt doesn't appear to support the -n flag that
normal mount supports which avoids accessing /etc/mtab.
Can any one suggest any solutions to this ?
