New ADS infrastructure with winbind - Which is the best ID-mapping: IDMAP_RID or IDMAP LDAP with ADS + SFU schema ?
A question for the best winbind SID-UID/GID mapping in our situation:
I'm building a new infrastructure with Windows 2003SP1 ADS
Domaincontrollers and some Debian Servers (File: Samba+NFS; Mail; Web;
....) and varios XP and Debian Clients.
After reading Chapter 12. (Identity Mapping) in the Samba-HOWTO is
IDMAP_RID in couple with winbind an easy way to solve the problem with
syncr.

different mask for directory inside another share
Hello,
let's assume we have:
[$someshare]
path = /some/path
create mask = 0644
directory mask = 0755
Within /some/path there's directory named dir1 for example
(/some/path/dir1). Is it possible to define alternative masks for that
particular directory without presenting it as a different share. My
second question - is it possible to define write list for
/some/path/dir1 only.

ADS mode with ReiserFS freezes Server
Hello,
after an update from Samba 2.2.12 to 3.0.22 and running the daemons 2-3
days my Samba Server freeze the whole Server.
First the clients get connection problems, timing out to access the shares
and then some minutes later the whole Server freeze, i can't even logon on
the console. Only a cold reset is possible.
I convert all files from latin-1 to a UTF-8 and then from UTF-8 to
ISO-8859-1

"read error" when accessing a file on mounted samba share (Linux)
Hi all,
This is my first experience with network file sharing on Linux so I'm
looking for debugging advice. Server and client are both running FC5.
I've set up my home directory as a share on the server using
system-config-samba, everything seems fine. On the client side, as root:
# smbclient -L server.domain
Password:
Domain=[DOMAIN] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.23a-1.fc4.1]

Linux integration with AD
Hi All,
I extended my AD schema (SFU 3.5) and migrated the users and groups from my
NIS domain.
The groups migrated from the NIS have the same GID like on the NIS.
I added linux machines to my AD domain using windbind, and define on the
smb.conf "idmap gid = 10000-20000".
I logged in using my AD user account, and when I'm doing "id", I see that
all the AD groups

Confbridge SFU for Asterisk 15
I am trying to get the "Mega Phone" demo working on my office PBX
but there seems to be a problem when trying to set the default bridge to
sfu mode. I have the following configuration in confbridge.conf in the
default_bridge section: video_mode = sfu but when I do a "confbridge
show profile bridge default_bridge" I see:
Video Mode: no video
I can change it

SFU?
Hello!
I just compiled rsync 2.6.0 on SFU 3.5 and it works :-)
Did somebody test it for real work?
Thank you!

SFU Permission Denied
This appears to be an old problem, but is a complete show stopper for us
at the moment.
We are trying to access an NFS file system, via Samba, from a WinXP
client. Within Windows itself everything is fine, but when accessing the
shares from within an SFU cshell, an error is returned when a file is
created. The file is successfully created, but a "Permission Denied"
error is returned.

rsync 3.0 for SFU
hi, I having problems with a knowed bug in rsync, it hangs during
transfers in the SFU version (services for unix), I read in this page
http://www.mail-archive.com/rsync@lists.samba.org/msg18807.html

avoid the hang bug...
the problem is that I dont know where to download that version of rsync
for the SFU... or when will be

winbindd ADS Windows 2003 SFU idmap=ad, with Suse Linux 9.1, no AD UID or GID
Hi,
I'm trying to get winbindd to obtain uid and gid info from M$ AD (Windows
2003 Server SP1). I'm getting the home directory and default shell info from
AD. I assume I have something wrong in my smb.conf, but cannot figure out
what it is:

Loaded services file OK.

SFU Samba Permission Denied
I recently ran into a problem accessing Samba shares from SFU. From
SFU's /net directory, I could read from files, move files, create
directories and even append to files using >>. But, when I tried to
create a file, I received a "Permission Denied" message.
After looking at the logs I found something which looked out of place.
I am currently using (I tried many different

freeRADIUS + krb5 + samba + AD
Hi,
We are using freeRADIUS 1.1.6. + samba 3.0.1 + krb5-1.3.2 talk to active-directory(win2k3).
Followed by: http://wiki.freeradius.org/FreeRADIUS_Active_Directory_Integration_HOWTO
Now it can work.
But there are multiple domains in active-directory.
Can samba or krb5 support mutiple domains?
How to configure krb5.conf and smb.conf can let it support multiple domains?

how to make 'winbind nss info = sfu' work in v >= 3.0.26a
There is an instance of Ms.Active Directory that has had the 'Services
For Unix' applied.
I use winbind v3.0.24 to get user/group info from that Ms.Active directory
instance like so:
-------- begin smb.conf snippet: ------------
security = ADS
realm = mydomain.com
workgroup = MYDOMAIN
winbind enum groups = yes
winbind enum users = yes
winbind nested groups = yes
winbind nss info = sfu

Windows server 2003 SP2, SFU 3.5 and Samba 3.0.28
Hello list users,
I have been struggling with this combination in the subject field couple
of days now, so I decided to ask for some advice here. Hopefully someone
can point me to a right direction. The ultimate goal for me is to
authenticate users using AD, so that the UID/GID values configured for
users with SFU would also be in use in all our Linux machines. My
understanding is that using

ID mapping with SFU not setting shell
Hi,
I'm trying to use SFU to set user IDs, shells, etc. but I can't work out the right magic - it always seems to use default template shell and home directory (but the UID seems correct)
The global section of my smb4.conf looks like so:
# Global parameters
[global]
log level = all:2
netbios name = GATEWAY2
realm = BEGER.COM.AU

corrupt files on samba server
Hello all,
I've got a strange problem on the samba servers here at my
workingplace. The problem is that we have some files on these machines
which seem to be corrupt. Mostly the corrupt files are images, excel
cheets and sometimes Word documents. We have no idea why these files
become corrupt. We have tested some things:
We copied a whole folder to the samba server. The result was
