Intel (brand) Penryn (8xxx) motherboard which works natively with CentOS 4/5?
Has anyone stumbled across an Intel brand motherboard which both works with the 8000 series of CPUs and with CentOS 4/5 out of the box? (by works I mean the NIC/Disk controllers without "fudgery")
The DG31 board "kind of" works but unfortunately it has 2 DIMM slots, the realtek NIC isn't supported (don't know why, its just a standard realtek NIC, although it might be

Intel DG33BU motherboard
Hi
I've installed CentOS 5.2 (i386) in a computer with a DG33BU motherboard
... When I installed it it crashed because of ACPI issues. Searching Google
I found that I need to turn ACPI off in order to successfully install
CentOS, which I did.
After a while I noticed that because of ACPI is off the Linux kernel
finds, initializes and uses only 1 CPU core in the Q6600 quad core CPU that

Centos 5.0 Intel G33/P35 Chipset Support (Asus P5K-VM, P5KC)
I have 2 new boxes that I cannot use yet because of
problems supporting these newer chipsets in 5.1. Does
anyone know when the CD version of 5.0 x86-64 that has
support for these chipsets be available on any on a
Centos mirror?
Has the support for these chipsets been added to yum
yet?
Here are my latest results with these chipsets and

Current Chipset Compatibility
Can someone make a recommedation as far as best chipset for Centos 5.0 or 5..1 using a Q6600 series CPU?with chipsets that have onboard VGA??
From poking around it looks like the G33 and P35 are not supported or have problems until the newer 2.6.22 kernel (the?iso's appear to be earlier than that, think it was?.18)?? So I am considering boards with the Intel G965 chipset but not sure if is

OT - Sensa Fuze
Anyone have experience with using a Sensa Fuze mp3/ogg player on CentOS 5.x?
I'm looking for a player that plays vorbis and isn't a M$/DRM/Apple
slave and this one looks like a good one to buy.
Thanks for any help!

Mplayer and VDPAU
Does anyone here know if the mplayer from rpmfusion
(mplayer-1.0-0.41.svn20090711.el5.rf) was compiled with VDPAU support?
I've looked on the mplayer web site and it says you can use vdpau, but it
doesn't say HOW. Would that be with something like "-vo vdpau" ??
Thanks!

OpenGL and CAD Apps
I am likely going to switch a desktop over from Windows to either CentOS or Fedora and run two CAD apps that now have Linux ports. I was wondering as I can't seem to find much specific info about the support of OpenGL in RH based OS's. Does CentOS support this out of the box or do I need to do anything with it?
Anyone doing this, or know of a definitive resource to point me towards?

Duplex Printing
Hi People,
This may be slightly off topic if so please let me know. My situation
is I have a bunch of Fedora clients connecting to a CentOS Printer
server (setup using cups). I have gone through and used Vendor supplied
ppd files where possible. And basic printing is working. But, Duplex
printing doesn't.
The Printers I am using are mostly Brother / HP with a few MFD's from

centos 5.1 install , 3ware raid card...
Installing a new system using a 3ware card, raid 5 across 4 disks,
partition, format went smothly and loaded the apps that I need, but for some
reason it appears grub was not installed, or not completely. I am wanting
to boot from the array, when installing grub on the loader it asks whether
to install MBR on the first partition. Should I use the partition instead
of the MBR? When I boot up in

R (statistics package) on CentOS-5 ?
Dear all,
the statistics package R (www.r-project.org) was available for CentOS-4, but I
need it for CentOS-5 (64bit). RPMforge has R-2.5.1 for CentOS-4, so I thought
I'd try to install that on CentOS-5.
However, yum complains about missing ggv, and the specfile indeed says that R
requires ggv, which is not in CentOS-5 (it has kghostview).
I could probably install with "rpm -Uvh

FW: Partitioning help
Hi,
I have Centos server 4.5 with 3.3TB raid disk on a 3 ware controller. Now the problem is that I am not able to see the partition in full since it shows only 1.2TB.
I have created a partition with Parted and (GNU PARTED) and I have seen it is 3.3 T there. However I have to make this partition on ext3 with make2efs j /dev/sda1 and after the formatting it went to 1.2T.

Problems installing 5.1 on a Tyan Thunder HEsl with a SCSI controller
Hi,
I'm trying to install 5.1 using the onboard LSI Symbios 53C1010, and I'm
running into some trouble. When the computer first boots, the SCSI BIOS
sees the three HDDs, but when I go to install, the installer hangs for a
while at inserting the sym53c8xx driver and if I go over to the screen
on F4 it shows that it is trying to scan the SCSI bus and is resetting
all of the IDs. Once that

What fires logrotate
I've been taking a look at how RedHat (and CentOS) handles logrotate.
According to the man page, logrotate is supposed to be fired by cron.
But when I look at root's crontab
$ sudo crontab lu root
no crontab for root
What exactly fires logrotate (and other scheduled events like
"logwatch", which ends up in root's inbox)?
