Samba + LDAP = Misery
I have been working on this for weeks now and feel like I am at a dead-end. I am using Samba 3.0 (Head) and OpenLDAP (2.0) and smbldap-tools 0.7 and cannot join either a Linux machine or Windows 2000 machine to the domain. If any of you have some ideas they would be much appreciated. Highlights: - I have a root defined (UID and GID of 0). - Trying to join the domain will successfully add my

Samba/LDAP XP Authentication Weirdness
Samba 2.2.8a, RH7.3 I have successfully connected machines running XP to the samba controlled domain. There are 3 XP machines, each with only one user designated as a power user (ie domain\username power user). Each can log into any of the three machines without a problem. Now I am trying to log a different person into any of these machines and I get the message "System Could Not Log

Can't get ldap passwd sync = only to send password request to ldap server
Ok, this one is driving me nuts. I am using smbk5pwd to sync samba, ldap, and heimdal kerberos passwords. I have the overlay working if called from the ldappasswd command. However, if I set "ldap passwd sync = only", I get no joy from Samba. It does a series of searches, but doesn't send any kind of password update request to the server. If I use ldap passwd sync = yes, then

smb.conf 3.0.7 -> 3.0.23c domain master problem
Hi all, We have an old 3.0.7 samba running as PDC. As we have problems with XP64 clients accessing the domain, I compiled a 3.0.23c and copied the smb.conf. Some of the client work well with the new Samba, but most of them do not. Was there any relevant change in the smb.conf part between the two versions? Thanks Bgs

trouble joining win xp machines to samba with ldap backend DC
Greetings, I would like some help figuring this out. I really don't know what to do anymore. whenever I try to join an XP machine to the domain it comes up that username or password is not correct. However I know that the credentials are correct, but when I check the logs of that specific machine, this comes up: [2010/09/24 11:42:38, 5] auth/auth_util.c:make_user_info_map(161)

NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_GROUP when attempting to connect
Hi, I'm attempting to get my server set up to share out files using Active Directory authentication. I also have winbind set up for shell logins to the server. That part works fine, but when I attempt to connect to a samba share with smbclient, I get rejected with "session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE". I did some searching and found others with similar issues, and I

Cannot connect to shares (groupmap problem?)
Hi, First off, I apologize if this email goes through twice. I sent it about an hour ago, but it appears to have never made it to the list, so I'm sending again. Clear text authentication impossible???
We have an Exchange 5.5 server in our Samba 3 domain und want to have POP3 access with clear text authentication from clients. But no kind of credentials is accepted. It did a level 10 log on the Samba server and found my clear text password in the log (in nt_chal_resp and lm_chal_resp fields) during authentication. Is it possible that Samba can't handle the clear-text pass-through from

Printing W2K net use lpt
Hello, I've got a problem with printing on a Windows 2K box. Printing from that box to a samba server via the normal print mechanism works fine. The problem is when the person needs to print to a lpt port. The capture succeeds, but when the file is copied to lpt2 it never gets printed. There are other machines that can do the capture and copy to the lpt port but they are Win 9x. The

Joining domain works - logging in doesn't
I'm building a replacement samba 3.5.6 domain controller to replace an old 3.0 one. Some other things are changing too. Our user accounts are now in LDAP rather than flat files (although the machine trust accounts will remain in a flat file), but that should be hidden from samba as it's going to be done through NSS. The smbpasswd file is a TDB file and will remain so. Our users

Crashing in Get_Pwnam_internals
I have two samba servers with pretty much identical setups (same smb.conf, smbd, winbindd, libnss_winbind.so binaries), joined to the same domain, one of which works, one doesn't. I'm seeing smbd crashing when I try to connect to the problem server with the following information in the logs. OS is Solaris 10 update 5 samba is a repository snapshot that Volker pointed me at to resolve an

logon problems, with ldap & samba 3.0

Samba 3beta3 and NETAPP filer - cannot join domain [long]
Hi, when trying to get a Netapp filer (multi protocol) to join a domain controlled by samba 3.0.0beta3 with ldapsam backend, I ran into a "small" problem - the filer won't join the domain. So we set up another server with samba 3.0.0beta3 using tdbsam(?) as the passwd backend - and lo, the filer is able to join the domain. Both "joins" are NT4 joins - as the filer

ldap and computer accounts
I'm attemtping to configure a Ubuntu server for a bunch of windows clients. I'd like the authentication information to be in ldap.So far the stuff works, I can authenticate users in LDAP just fine. But when I want a windows machine to join the domain I get the error 'The user name could not be found'. The computer account gets created (via smbldap-tools) and I can see it in the
