multiple groups by the same name
When issuing a net rpc group list I see two entries for the same group name: sudo net rpc group list Password: Domain Faculty Domain Guests Domain Admins Domain Admins Domain Users So I have 3 questions. 1) could this be the cause of my failure to be able to join machines to the samba domain? 2) how do I remove one of these groups 3) how to I check membership in the 'Domain Admins'

I have created a domain controller using samba 3.0.20. I following howto's from a couple of books and the samba.org site. I was able to use net rpc vampire to migrate the old nt4 domain user accounts, machine accounts, and trusts. However, now when I attempt to use add a new machine to the domain I receive and error. permissions problem with adding a machine
I have configured a domain controller in samba 3.0.xxx. I followed the how-to at samba.org and I think I may have missed a step because now when I attempt to add a machine to the domain, I get an error. I am using tdbsam as the user/group store. I ran the net group map to make windows groups to unix groups. I have verified that my administrator users are in group wheel. I do not use the map

failure to add a machine to domain
We put together a samba 3.0.x server to replace an nt domain controller 3 weeks ago when our nt servers were being hit by and unpatched/unpatchable vulnerability in nt. we went through numerous howto's and other documents. The net rpc vampire seem to grab everything fine. However, now when we attempt to add a machine to the domain we get a failure. looking through the log files we see

Authentication problems using libsmbclient to traverse DFS links
Hi, I'm trying to create a map of DFS links to actual server/share's. I know that you can get this information by logging on to the DFS root server, but I'm trying to use the libsmbclient API to get this information. I have created a fairly simple DFS structure on 2003 servers with everything on the same domain. //MyDomain/DFSRoot /Link1 -> //Fileserv-1/FileShare1 /Link2

DFS not working w/ fully.qualified.sub.domain
Hi: I've got a samba/DFS server configured that works fine under it's original name, but I'm getting booted out of that DNS domain, into a subdomain. All my (WinXP) clients have drives mapped to names like \\server.domain.com\dfsroot. If I browse to the path, \\server.domain.com\dfsroot, everything works. I can access the shares pointed to via the dfs links But, now the network is

problem setting up dfs
Hi, I'm trying to set up msdfs on FreeBSD 4.10 with samba 3.08. The clients I use are WinXp (sp1) and the desktop browser on RedHat ES3. Problems described beneath are identical for both clients. I tried to follow the howto as precisely as possible to not into problems, however, I did... In /export/dfsroot I made a link msdfs:strsvr01\part0 . I made sure everything is in lower case.

DFS links not working
Hello list I try to setup a DFS root like documented in the Samba HOWTO Collection Chapter 18. (using Samba 3.0.14a btw.) I setup everything as specified there, but when I try to access one of the linked shares from a windows machine, I get a message telling me the location is unavailable. Looking at the logs reveals: ---------------------------- 8< ---------------------------- [2005/04/20

dfs problems addressed in 3.0.25b?
Is the issue below addressed in 3.0.25b? (no freebsd port available yet so I'm still at 3.0.25a) I can't see anything specifically about this in the release notes. I just want to add that I've also seen this behaviour on a windows xp x64 client. It's a pretty serious problem.. so I'm also thinking I may have to revert to an earlier version if it doesn't look like a
