Package naming best practices
R-devel, I'm in the process of choosing a name for a new package. I've already decided that the name will have two parts, 'portfolio' and 'sim', but can't decide between 'portfolioSim' and 'portfolio.sim'. Is there any good reason to choose one over the other? Thanks in advance, Jeff -- Jeff Enos Kane Capital Management jeff at kanecap.com

paste in xtable
Dear R help: I am trying to use paste(), within an ifelse() statement to insert latex commands into an object that has been created using xtable(). I cannot make the strings behave as I would like, the '\t' is creating a tab, the usual method of '\\t' is not working either - nor is any series of backslashes. The xtable object, I think, automatically alters the strings. How

Cannot access public share w/3.0.23c on gentoo
Hello, I have upgraded my gentoo samba server to version 3.0.23c using the ebuild script on bugs.gentoo.org that was suggested top me on this list. I am having some trouble accessing my "public" folder and I have a "valid users = +users" for that share. I have tried using "valid users= +Solidus\users" as well and that does not work. The first way seems to work just

Daily package check and --install=no
R-devel, There has been some confusion on the MatchIt package mailing list on the meaning of [--install=no] in the comment column of CRAN's automated package check. It's my understanding that, at the very least, a package marked like this will not have its test cases run each night. Are there other checks that are omitted? How, if at all, are such install flags related to the

NAs in unsplit factor
R-devel, Below is a simple example calling split and unsplit on a numeric vector of length 2 where 'f' is c(1,NA). > unsplit(split(c(1,2), c(1,NA)), c(1,NA)) [1] 1 0 I noticed that the call to vector in unsplit gives us 0 as the 2nd element of the result. Is this the intended result, as opposed to NA? Thanks for your help, Jeff -- Jeff Enos Kane Capital Management jeff at

Allowing Domain Admins root access
Hi, We have a Windows Domain and a few Linux boxes on which we have installed Samba and set them up so people can log in using their windows domain logins using winbind etc. All is working fine EXCPECT for the group memberships. I have a windows user who is a member of the "Domain Admins" group and I want them to have root privilegdes on the UNIX box. I added a group mapping using

S4 classes in existing packages
R-devel, I'm interested in looking at some examples of existing R packages that rely heavily on S4 classes to get a feel for varying styles and package organization techniques. Could you recommend any packages that might serve as a good starting point? Thanks in advance, Jeff

Marking and remarking of incoming traffic
I can use DSMARK to mark on the Egress side. Is there a way to mark/change the DSCP value of an incoming packet on the ingress side? Thanks. Jon Flechsenhaar Boeing WNW Team Network Services (714)-762-1231 202-E7

Samba-3.0.23 problem
We had to power down all servers today for electrical maintenance in the building and for some reason I began having access problems related to the valid users lists when power was restored. The dialog from the 'Samba-3.0.23 broke my network' thread seemed as if it might be related even though I had not performed any software upgrade so I tried adding the group mappings as discussed in

Samba 3.0.23c-1.fc5 problem - groups
Hi there, I use FC5. I discovered, for an exemple, if you have a user group with 3 members (Alan, Baker, Clive), before 3.0.23c this line at smb.conf worked fine: valid users = @user But with 3.0.23c update it doesn't work anymore. You have to replace the line like this: valid users = Alan, Baker, Clive I mean, replace the "@groupname" with the complete userlist of the

Autentication against BDC first
Hi all, I have this question, I ve got a master LDAP server on a remote place and i want to install a PDC and a BDC and a slave ldap server in other place. PQ questions
Hi all, First, let me say I''ve been most impressed with how quickly and professionally people on this list ask and answer questions. Next, let me say that with which I need help is properly configuring strict PQ, and gathering certain stats. Specifically: - I need to create a priority queue with four queues (let''s say they are of high, medium, normal, and low priority) - I

"Wbinfo -u" get user account sucessfully but "getent passwd" fails
Hi everybody, I got a problem here with my Samba ADS member server. It functions as a file server and works for a long time. A few weeks ago our Active Directory domain controller failed due to power outage. We fixed it and now an employee reports that he could not use the samba file server any more. I restarted samba service and did the following testing: 1) getent passwd <thisUser>

classification of incoming traffic with tc
Hi all, Another requirement we have is that traffic entering the DS domain be classified then subsequently assigned a (different?) DSCP based upon its classification. For illustrative purposes only let''s say (for traffic entering the DS domain on dev eth0): - WWW traffic would be marked BE - traffic destined for 10.10.10.10 would be marked AF11 - VoIP traffic from 20.20.20.20 would

PDC BDC hot failover
Hi there, I have a problem getting my Samba installation redundant. I installed a PDC and a BDC working with 2 LDAP servers. The problem is, when users are logged in and the BDC fails, the PDC does not take over the running sessions and vice versa. The clients have a hanging explorer and so on. When the failing server gets back online again, everything works, no lags anymore. Is it possible
