MS06-035 problems?
I just patched our domain controllers with MS06-035 because it said it was just fixing a couple of memory leak problems with SMB in srvsvc. Now, this afternoon, one of my colleagues tried to join a FC5 machine to our active directory using the recipe that we have been using for years (which worked yesterday, according to him), and it fails on "net ads join". No changes have been made

Possible CentsOS licensing issue
Dear Friends, I have few questions. 1. I have a device on which I have installed CentOS 5.2 as an operating system. Now I want to sell this device. Will there be any issue ? points to keep in mind: a. There are no changes in OS. (it is just a stripped down image of original OS) b. I have installed few generic user space applications of my own installed in that OS. I do not want to violate

Wine and the WMF exploit
There are rumors [1] about Wine suffering from the same WMF vulnerability [2] recently discovered and fixed in Windows systems. By looking at recent commits, I understand this is probably fixed in CVS, but does anyone have more information? 1) Is a Microsoft-free system theoretically vulnerable? If I use Wine on GNU/Linux (no native Windows DLLs) to run a .exe image viewer and open a malicious

glm StepAIC with all interactions and update to remove a term vs. glm specifying all but a few terms and stepAIC
Problem: I am sorting through model selection process for first time and want to make sure that I have used glm, stepAIC, and update correctly. Something is strange because I get a different result between: 1) a glm of 12 predictor variables followed by a stepAIC where all interactions are considered and then an update to remove one specific interaction. vs. 2) entering all the terms

DVD writer problem
I have an NEC DVD-RW ND2500A (that's not the label I bought it under, but that's what it really is.) It's supposed to read/write CDs, DVDs, DVD+Rs, and DVD-Rs. I'm basically dual booting between XP and CentOS 4. Following the recipe in "The Linux Cookbook", I tried to copy a DVD using: dd if=/dev/hdd of=/tmp/diskfile.iso then cdrecord dev=/dev/hdd fs=32m

Perms must traduct to ACL?
Hello, I posted some days ago and after searching more and more i think the problem could be fixed patching the kernel with ACL support, am i right? Here's my problem: I have a samba server running as a domain member in a windows domain controlled by a windows nt4 PDC. Samba has to authenticate users against that nt4 PDC, it works, i also use winbind to map uid and gid to my linux so i can

Moving users from Debian-based distro to CentOS
I have a Debian machine with four users that I plan on migrating to CentOS. As per Debian habits the UIDs start with 1000. Is it enough to reuse the Debian /etc/shadow and /etc/passwd files over? Or will I need to configure some other things? I had considered just creating four new users starting from UID 500 then chown -R -ing the user's home directories, but I find that invasive and

new ATA box for sale by Linksys
Fry's Electronics has a new Linksys 2 line ATA box for sale for $59.99 retail. They have a version with a router for $89.99. We picked the non-router version up and it seems to be a rebadged Sipura SPA-2000. The box has a Vonage service package inside as well, but it does work with other services. The box also has a "User Guide" meant for end-users that is very well written [no

offline folders problem with W2k SP2
Hi, had samba 2.1.?? version and Win2k running for some time and offline folders worked just fine. But recently I installed SP2 on Win2k and did a samba upgrade to 2.2.3 and now the offline folders do not work any more. Everything is fine until I go offline, */CSC/ contains my offline files and everything seems fine, but when being offline I always get access denied messages when accessing

Win95 and mixed case passwords (1.9.18p8)
Hi there, I've just tripped over a problem I thought only existed in WfWg3.11. On Win95 clients connecting to a 1.9.18p8 Samba server (IRIX 5.3) the first logon dialog box seems to have a problem with mixed-case passwords. If I have a lower case password, then I can just enter it in the Win95 'Microsoft Network' logon dialog at startup, and all the shares are reconnected. If I

UPDATE - Analog Phones with FSK/Stutter MWI
After purchasing the Uniden TRU9480 and then the Panansonic 5672, both of which do not have "phone company" compatible FSK/stutter MWI, I finally got smart and found out just which Panasonic phones have this feature. Only the following 5.8G models in their current line have FXO compatible MWI. I purchased the 5771 unit and one remote. I have confimed it does in fact work with Asterisk

Dump problem on USB drive
Hi. I am running CentOS 4.3 on a small home server just dishing up mail, music etc. to the household. I had been doing irregular backups to a 160GB USB external drive /dev/sda1 mounted as /mnt/backup using tar. Then I read somewhere that dump was better so I tried that after clearing the drive (formatted as ext3). dump -0u -f /dev/sda1 /shared took a while to finish but gave no errors however ls
