samba + ldap query filter
Hi!
I've been using samba as PDC with a LDAP backend, and everything seems to
work fine but, whenever a user has to auth to samba, it seems that the query
that it performs is against the mail attribute, instead of the uid as I
desired.
Is there any way to manually specify the query filter to use agains the LDAP
tree?
Thanks!

Migration 2.x-> 3.0 with new server, sharing files during migration process?
Hello!
I'm looking for a solution, how the data of a Samba server can be shared
between 2 Samba Servers (2.x and 3.0) during migration process. The new
environment will be done from scratch, new Hardware, etc.
Old Samba server/environment:
Samba 2.x
Authentication via W2k Server (security = DOMAIN)

No POSIX-ACL's

TS licensing problem on samba domain
Hello,
We have recently joined a Windows Server 2008 R1 on our samba domain as
a domain member. The samba domain controller runs Samba version 3.4.9 on
FreeBSD 8.2.
We use the Windows Server as a terminal server for our domain users who
need an accounting application called Acomba. Therefore we have added TS
User CALs to the server in question. The TS Licensing Server was
activated and the

Samba 2 PDC upgrade to Samba 3 - group mapping problem
I'm in the process of replacing a Samba 2.2.12 PDC with Samba 3.0.14a-Debian. An LDAP database serves as the user data store, and I've made no changes to the Samba 2.2.x-compatible LDAP records. Since I don't relish LDAP schema changes, I've specified ldapsam_compat as my passdb backend; I figured that since I was already running a compatible LDAP schema, there was no need to make

Roaming profiles errors and shares not disconnecting
Hi,
We are using Samba 3.0.22 on FreeBSD 5.5 PDC with ldap backend and
roaming profiles.
We meet some difficulties when users logout from some Windows 2000 SP4
clients, and storing their profiles back to the Samba server.
The file NTUSER.DAT seems to be uploaded and stored in lowercase, as
ntuser.dat.
Then, when users try to reopen a win session, they get a corrupted new
profile. This new

Offline files enabled clients are loosing network drives
Hello,
since the update to Samba 3.0.25b Clients which have offline files enabled
- typically notebooks - are sporadical loosing their network drives.
In the samba logs I see:
"read_data: read failure for 4 bytes to client 192.168.1.58. Error = Connection timed out"
After a new login the client can connect again to the shares again, but
after some minutes of work the same thing

"Wbinfo -u" get user account sucessfully but "getent passwd" fails
Hi everybody,
I got a problem here with my Samba ADS member server. It functions as a
file server and works for a long time. A few weeks ago our Active
Directory domain controller failed due to power outage. We fixed it and
now an employee reports that he could not use the samba file server any
more. I restarted samba service and did the following testing:
1) getent passwd <thisUser>

Testing subnets with samba[Scanned]
OK before i start, this was something i was just testing while everyone was in training this afternoon. I have never had to deal with subnets before as we only have a few users, but decided to do a little bit of messing around to gain some experience.
Basically we have one server (mandriva 2006) running samba, it has two 4 port ethernet cards in it but only utilitising one port from each card.

"password server" in smb.conf
Hi,
I use winbindd and to use it I write my Active Directory Domain
Controller in the "password server" directive in smb.conf.
Since I have not one but two servers (for failover situations), can I
write another password server?

Two domains on one network?
I feel I should know the answer to this, but I wanted to verify. I have a
bunch of Windows PC's running Win 2K Pro, on three subnetworks. Two of the
subnets are served by Unix (FreeBSD) boxes running NATD, but all are joined
to a domain being run on a Win 2K Pro server in another building on the
campus. So far I haven't joined the two Unix boxes to the domain.

[[ CD Server ]]
Hi,
I'm building "cheap" print servers using old
Pentium 133 (150, 200 or 233) with 32 (or 64) MB of
RAM memory. Small HDs (2.1, 3.5, 4.2) GB and using
Debian Sarge (3.1), with kernel 2.6, CUPS and Samba
3.0.10.
The print part is ok, works fine and it is just
information to the background. Now our IT team decided
to put a CD and make the "cheap" print servers became

Samba 3.0.23c-1.fc5 problem - groups
Hi there,
I use FC5.
I discovered, for an exemple, if you have a user group with 3 members (Alan,
Baker, Clive), before 3.0.23c this line at smb.conf worked fine:
valid users = @user
But with 3.0.23c update it doesn't work anymore.
You have to replace the line like this:
valid users = Alan, Baker, Clive
I mean, replace the "@groupname" with the complete userlist of the

What management of samba is available for large scale deployment
I'm working for a higher education institution, and we have Novell Netware
for our file sharing services. We are looking at what migration paths
are available.
I know samba works, we use it on a number of Solaris and Linux boxes and
have it authenticate against our Windows ADS. Manually editing samba
confiiguration files for up to a hundred users is OK. The challenge is how
do you manage a
