W2K3 Domain - Can't Connect to Share?
I have a linux box, Samba 3.0.23a, that is joined to a W2K3 domain. I
cannot connect to the "MP3s" share (all legal!) on this system - I can
connect to home directories and printers. When I try to connect to MP3s
as any user on the domain, I get an Access is denied message, or it
prompts me for the username and password again. I am using Winbind (if
that matters), so none of these

What's wrong with my smb.conf? Access Denied with 3.0.23c
Still having problems with my Samba configuration, even after upgrade to
the latest FC5 samba package. Getting "Access Denied" errors when
trying to connect with a member of the group "Domain Users" to the MP3s
share. The W2K3 server shows that authentication was successful. I
can't find any errors in the logs at all, and winbind appears to be
working (I can su to the

NET JOIN ERROR WITH SOL 10 and W2K3
We are currently working on a new systems design which is changing out
our hardware, OSs and applications all at the same. This is our first
crack at trying to get SOL 10 (1/06) and W2K3 server to play nice
together and we can't get the Windows domain controller to pass the SID
to our UNIX server. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We are
currently required to use Samba 3.0.2.0b but we

INTERNAL ERROR: Signal 11 in pid 8928 (3.0.23c)
Hello!
It seems my struggle with Samba isn't quite over. My latest problem is
exactly what you see above, followed by an attempt to core dump. This
occurs upon authentication to the system. My system is part of a W2K3
domain. I looked at the Samba HOWTO, but apparently I have a system
(FC5), that doesn't allow core dumps when the PID changes, since no core
dumps are being created.

Migration 2.x-> 3.0 with new server, sharing files during migration process?
Hello!
I'm looking for a solution, how the data of a Samba server can be shared
between 2 Samba Servers (2.x and 3.0) during migration process. The new
environment will be done from scratch, new Hardware, etc.
Old Samba server/environment:
Samba 2.x
Authentication via W2k Server (security = DOMAIN)
Server has more than 100 netbios aliases
No POSIX-ACL's
Users and Groups are stored

Problem with [homes] under 3.0.23x
Hello,
I found another strange problem while migrating from 3.0.22 to 3.0.23x
(with 'x' eq 'd' now):
I can't access my [homes]-share anymore - if i try, the samba-server
prompts me for a password. What *is* working is accessing the same
directory as [<username>]...
E.g.: \\Sambaserver\matthias works whereas
\\Sambaserver\homes works *not*
Unfortunaely it

Copying local profiles to domain profiles...
I just set up a Samba 3 PDC, and my users want to use their local
profiles. Unfortunately their XP systems won't allow them to copy their
existing profiles - that option grays out for their local accounts. Is
there another way to accomplish this?

Hi all! First off, I'd like to thank you for the help you've previously
given me. I'd like to state a few of the problems I am now experiencing,
and you all can provide insight. I've read all the documentation I can find
and have surfed the archives for this newsgroup, but to no avail. Any help
would be greatly appreciated!

Hi all
I just downloaded the latest sable rlease (3.0.23b). I compiled it and
installed it without any problems.
When I restart servers, shares configured like this :

read list = user
browseable = no
path = /home/users/xdavid
write list = xdavid
only user = yes
user = xdavid
works fine, but these shares (using goups names) doesn't

Samba-3.0.23 problem
We had to power down all servers today for electrical maintenance in the
building and for some reason I began having access problems related to
the valid users lists when power was restored.
The dialog from the 'Samba-3.0.23 broke my network' thread seemed as if
it might be related even though I had not performed any software upgrade
so I tried adding the group mappings as discussed in

Rogue smbd processes
This is a follow-on to my previous message about some 3.0.23b Solaris smbd
processes going rogue and eating CPU time. One characteristic of the
processes are that the effective UID of the process is the user's UID, rather
than root's which is what a see for the well behaved processes. Any ideas how
that could be happening so that I can get closer to a solution? Thanks.

No predefined Groups
Hello,
I have set up a Samba-Server (samba-3.0.23a-0.1.34.x86_64.rpm and after that
samba-3.0.23c-0.1.36.x86_64.rpm) as PDC and tdbsam-passdb backend. I can
add XP-Computers and Users to the Domain, but the Domain-Users has problems
with Access-Rights on the Win-XP-Systems. The Reason is (i think so) that
samba has not generated the typical Groups: Result from 'net groupmap list'

Samba Support
Good Morning,
I understand you provide support for the Samba project.
I am searching for some FREE help solving what I think is a very simple
problem for an experience Samba professional.
I am running Samba 2.2.12 on an old SCO OpenServer 5.0.6 box.
I cannot update to a more recent version of Samba as this is the last
version that will run on SCO OpenServer 5.0.6.
I have some
