lib/util_sock.c:read_data(436) ...
Hello,
I am administering several Samba PDCs (2.2.7a - 3.0.1) in different networks.
The underlying OS'es are nearly the same on all machines, Debian 3.x and
SuSE 8.x. The machines are also providing the following services to the
clients: ISC dhcpd3, bind9 for dynamic DNS and lprng. Clients are running
Win2K/XP.
So far, everything works: domain logons, printing, file sharing.
But I

read_data: read failure for 4
Thse kinds of error messages show up all the time in my logs...is this
bad? I've had no complaints about lost data or anything.
I'm running samba 2.2.4 on FreeBSD 4.6 (previously 4.5), on an IDE RAID.
I upgraded our file server from an older linux box about 4 weeks ago, and
have been getting this error in the smbd logs ever since (ie, the entire
times it's been running samba).

The Infamous "read_data: read failure for 4 bytes"
Hello all,
I'm far from being a samba expert and truth be told I could use some
education on networking in general but here it is...
I have a stand alone samba server that I use a stunnel to connect to. Reads
take place fine from the server but writes *always* fail exactly one time
per open session, but if you immediately try to copy the file again it will
work (without closing the window),

performance problem on bridgehead DC
Jessie also has the problem, even before the meltdown patches.
The kernel 3.16.x had ksoftirqd probems, eating up cpu cicles.
Make sure you use kernel 4.9.0-6
And i suggest move up to samba 4.7.x or 4.7.4 from debian/buster,
Or use my 4.6.12/4.7.6 packages for stretch, or ask if Tranquil.it can make them.
The 4.6.14 is still in the make atm for stretch, 4.6.14 for jessie is done.
And last,

performance problem on bridgehead DC
Hi Louis,
Move up to 4.7 is planned soon but I'm little scared to update bridgehead if it actually had performance problem.
I would like to fix all problem before updating.
My smb.conf is really simple:
[global]
workgroup = PR
realm = pr.educationetformation.fr
netbios name = DC000
server role = active directory domain controller
bind interfaces only

performance problem on bridgehead DC
Hi everybody !
I am encountering performance problem on my bridgehead DC.
I have 19 DC (Debian Stretch / Samba 4.6.7 from Tranquil.it repo) and they all synchronized on a main bridgehead DC.
This performance problem first appears when the bridgehead DC was on Debian Jessie and kernel was updated with meltdown/spectre patch from Debian (3.16.51-3+deb8u1)
I added "nopti" option to grub

append to path from login script?
I'm wondering if there is a way to add a network share (either UNC or
mapped drive) to the path of a user when they login?
for example have a directory \\smbserver\apps and put putty.exe in
there.. so that when I sit down at a machine I will always have putty in
the path..
Is that possible?
