net rap share vs. net share
Hi All, I have been using the 'net rap share' command to enumerate Windows
shares and CIFS shares hosted on Filers. I have realized though in some
cases that using this command does not show all shares as does using 'net
share'. I have looked at the shares hosted on this particular windows box
and cannot find any difference between the ones that are enumerated using

smbclient sees my shares, but net view on Windows doesnt'
Hi. I've got samba installed on a Sparc Solaris box and I can't seem to
connect to it from the Windows machines on my network. I am able to mount
the share with smbclient from the Solaris box, and the machines can both
ping each, but when I do "net view \\hostname" from the Windows DOS shell I
see this:
System error 53 has occurred.
The network path was not found.
Any help

Files are showing up as hidden when view from windows ...
Well I started digging into it, and it seems its making executables show up
as hidden. Which seems really odd, here's an ls -l from my Solaris
machine...
-rw-r--r-- 1 iacm staff 0 Oct 12 11:10 notHidden
-rwxr-xr-x 1 iacm staff 0 Oct 12 11:09 showsUpHidden
The file names describe which one is which.
If I did a chmod 755 on notHidden, it would then show up

Cannot change NTACL for share from Windows
I just joined a freshly installed Linux machine with Samba 4.11.6 to my
Windows AD, as a domain member. Followed the Wiki to a T, domain join
without errors, I can enumerate users/groups, I can create shares and work
with them from Windows (all that matters to me).
Unfortunately, however, I don't seem to be able to change share security
settings, i.e. ACL from Windows. Whenever I do so, I get

Cannot browse, 'net view' fails, but 'net use x: \\server\share' works [ANSWER]
Hello everyone,
I had been struggling with the issue, and eventually found the root
cause. But I noted it's not mentioned here, or on the internet.
Solution below, after the details.
The symptoms are that on Windows 2000 you can
C:\> net use X: \\server\share
(maps the drive successfully) and
C:\> net view \\server
(lists the various services).
But doing this:
C:\> net

Printers shared via samba server vs Windows server
Greetings.
I have a question and I'm sure it's elementary to some, but I've not found
an answer by googling. I have a Debian Jessie/Sid box with Samba 3.6.6. I
have AD integrated with point&click functionality. All is well except for
one thing. I have about a dozen network copiers who have give weird margin
errors when trying to print from Word. That's not the issue I want

Best practices for confidential information -- fileserver path vs modules / template
We keep our puppet configuration in a revision control system and are
trying to facilitate developers using the same modules as production/
staging servers.
We define a variable ($servergroup) as test/staging/production and use
fileserver defaults from hostname to servergroup to generic. The
hostname and $servergroup versions need to be confidential. We have
modules specific to an application,

cannot list/access samba share from Windows client
Hi,
I have a problem to list/access share from Windows client to share hosted on samba domain member server.
I followed the instruction from
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_Samba_as_a_Domain_Member
step by step but I used sssd instead of winbind for the authentication method.
The Linux samba server is an Ubuntu server 16.04 and I successfully added this samba server to a awindows
