using winbind in pam.d/system-auth, double prompts for password
I am using samba-2.2.3a and samb-2.2.4 in my windows-2000 environment and have the my linux systems configured to use winbind in addition to standard unix for authentication. The problem I am seeing is that linux services and programs that prompt for a password will prompt first for unix authentication and then a second time for winbind authentication. Is there anyway to using winbind and unix

Users connecting from Terminal server to Unix server running samb a
I am using Service Pack 5 on Windows NT Terminal Server 4.0. I understand that there may be an issue with SP5, but I am unable to upgrade immediately. Is there a registry entry on the NT server I can use? I cannot find anything on your web site but will continue looking. Samba PDC + Openldap (no database connection established after reboot)
Hi, all. I really need your helps in determing what I did wrong. I have been trying to setup Samba PDC (not using TLS at this initial stage yet) by hand on SLES 9.1 and did not use YAST because somehow it just did not work. I followed all the steps from the "The Linux Samba-OpenLDAP Howto (1.10) from IDEALX.org) and Chapter 5 Making Happy Users from the book and a bunch of other

Samb and Ldap groups
Hi, After some carefully editing of pdb_ldap.c I have managed to get a list of groups from the LDAP directory if you are root or anyother user. :-) The problem now is if you run the command (from win2k) net group it /domain (where 'it' is the group name) or try to open a group in user manager you do not get any listing of uers in that group. The error in windows is "Group name

getting started with SAMB - I think
I have NT 4.0 , Solaris x86 2.5 , and RedHat Linux 5.0 on my work computer. The Building uses NT 4.0 as its network. about 3000 users I want to just to be able to use NT 4.0 printers from unix, and also, but I don't think it's possible, hook up with MicroSoft Exchange Server to get to my E-Mail from UNIX. I can use Netscape from both UNIX'es above.

Now in one departement i installed samba 2.0.6 on one 40K$ IBM F50 with AIX 4.3.2, 2xCPU, 256MB RAM, 100FDX, extern RAID 5 Tower . Performance is really very, very BAD. I tried already everything, but this IBM box with samba is just very SLOW. Browsing through directories, logging, copying

I'm very new to linux, I'm using Linux 8.0, seemed very easy to configure at first, but I'm having trouble configuring how to connect to my computer using linux from my computer using windows98. I see the Mygroup Icon in NetworkNeighborhood and also my user name, but when I click on it, it says to provide a password. I use my user password from linux but no avail. Somewhere I

using winbind in pam.d/system-auth, double prompts fo r password
Greetings, Try using the "use_first_pass" directive in your pam.conf file (or the relevant file in /etc/pam.d/ - on my system it's /etc/pam.d/login). You'll no doubt find more information in the relevant (PAM) man pages. My /etc/pam.d/login line for winbind looks like this: auth required pam_unix.so use_first_pass Manuel Gomez -----Original Message----- From: Gregg

Authentication problem when using LDAP
A colleague has seen a problem (with Samba 3.0), in using LDAP. A very simple version of the problem is as follows, where he tries to authenticate a user "grw" > > I am almost there... I get the following when I do a simple test to > > find the user 'grw' by attempting to change the password (even > > though I do not want Samba to change the pw, this

ldap smbpasswd UH???
I can't really guess the point of your intelligent answer from this. If I have to assume you're surprised, I guess I am too. The cn exists in ldap, with all the attributes that I imported from other databases, the message given by smbpasswd suggests that it either tried to create an entry or update it with sambaaccount attributes ( which it didn't ), neither of which are the expected
