smb + nfs lock problem
Hello, whenever I try to copy a new file from windowsXP (2K also) to a samba share which is NFS mounted on the samba server, I get an error on the client: "impossible to copy file.txt: the process cannot access the file because an other process has locked a part of it" (my english translation of the french message I have !) It worked fine before (3weeks ago) and I think that problem

"read error" when accessing a file on mounted samba share (Linux)
Hi all, This is my first experience with network file sharing on Linux so I'm looking for debugging advice. Server and client are both running FC5. I've set up my home directory as a share on the server using system-config-samba, everything seems fine. On the client side, as root: # smbclient -L server.domain Password: Domain=[DOMAIN] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.23a-1.fc4.1]

On my workstation I do: mount -t cifs "//roark/awilliam" /mnt/roark-awilliam/ -o username=awilliam, password=xxxxxx and when I cd to /mnt/roark-awilliam, ls works, but if I cat a file I get the

smbd using 99.9% CPU with MS Office docs
I made a post a few weeks ago regarding this but was unable to find a solution. This is the situation: + I'm attempting to upgrade from samba 3.0.23a (Fedora core package 3.0.23a-1.fc4.1) to the latest version compiled from Samba source. + When using the latest version (or 3.0.25b), Win clients can authenticate & access shares fine, but attempting to open any kind of MS Office doc (not

Problems with ADS join after Samba update on FC4
Hi, I used to have a working Samba + Winbind configuration in ADS mode under FC4; Samba version was 3.0.14a-2. I joined a W2k domain, and winbind correctly returned the user information. krb5.conf and smb.cong have been modified according to Howtos and tutorials found on the net. One day Samba has been updated to 3.0.23a-1.fc4.1 and it stopped working. No modification has been done to the

Only admin user can print?
Hi all, after upgrading a FC3 box to FC4 which comes with Samba 3.0.23a rpm's, I have the really strange effect that /only/ "admin users" can print to printers shared by the Samba server. Even a double click on the printer in Win gives an "access denied". The access to "normal" shares (homes etc.) still works fine. Any idea what went wrong? How could I debug

NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED error. Pls help
I'm running samba3.0.23 on a fedora core 4 box. I successfully joined the samba server into an AD and shared home directories on the fc4 box. (Actually, the home directories on that fc4 box are mounted from a NFS server) I can access the top level of my home directory without any problems because the permission is set as 755. But I can't access directores with permissions like 700. So I

Issues with cifs mounts following Samba upgrade to 3.0.23a
My LAN includes a server machine running FC4, with several shares mounted with Samba. Yesterday, I upgraded the packages on the FC4 machine, and these included Samba, which is now at 3.0.23a. Unfortunately, this seems to have broken the mounted shares for my Ubuntu 6.06 installation on my Acer 1682WLMI laptop. The cifs module on Ubuntu reports as version 1.39. The symptoms are that I can

Local groups invisible (ldapsam & 3.0.23b, 3.0.23c)
Hello all, I'm running samba3 as domain controller. I have upgraded samba from 3.0.22 to 3.0.23b and faced an issue with groups display: samba does not see any groups. "net rpc group -U Administrator" returns empty set. usrmgr.exe does not show any groups also. Groups are present in ldap, nss_ldap works fine: # id asv uid=2005(asv) gid=513(Domain Users) groups=513(Domain Users),

Group mapping not working consistently
I'm trying to understand why my group mapping doesn't work in a consistent fashion. I've studied "Important Samba-3.0.23 Change Notes" & chapter 13 of TOSHARG but am still struggling. I'm on 3.0.23a-1.fc4.1 (Fedora Core 4) as a PDC, tdbsam backend. 'net groupmap list' gives this: Domain Power Users (S-1-5-21-1365060548-1276164359-2333037906-31037) ->

Failing to install R-2.4.0 on FC4
Hi everyone, Firstly, I'm sorry for the cross-post. I re-read the posting guide and it appears my question is more related to r-devel.... (i think :-) ) I downloaded the source code available at: http://cran.fhcrc.org/src/base/R-2/R-2.4.0.tar.gz to a linux machine (Linux 2.6.11-1.1369_FC4smp #1 SMP). I successfully configured and compiled it, which means I'm able to run it from the

Fix for Fw: [unixODBC-support] FedoraCore4 and unixODBC __post_internal_error undefined symbol at runtime
Just in case anyone with FC4 and maybe other distros were trying to use unixODBC-2.2.11 and wine's built in odbc32. If your app errors out when you issue a query with an undefined symbol of __post_internal_error you will need to use an early snapshot of the 2.2.12 unixODBC that resolves this issue... Problem with LDAP failover config
Hi, I have working master & slave OpenLDAP servers the Samba PDC works correctly when using either as the passdb backend. However, when configuring for LDAP failover as per this doc: http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/2000users.html Samba doesn't work & the logs fill up with this: ldap_initialize: Bad parameter to an ldap routine Connection to LDAP server failed for the 1

Help: smbd & nmbd normal states
I have just installed Fedora Core 5 with the Samba server. However only the nmbd daemon is running. I thought both smbd and nmbd should be running. On trying to start smbd with: >/sbin/service smb start the result is "starting smbd [FAILED]" Stopping smbd of course has no effect, and starting or restarting nmbd works just fine. I'm stumped! I turned SELinux and the firewall off.

winbind nsswitch problem
Greetings list, I'm using samba 3.0.23a on a Fedora Core 5 system in a member server role in an Active Directory domain (security ads). My problem is that, although wbinfo -u and -g work great and can pull user and group lists respectively from AD, getent passwd and getent group do not. I've configured passwd: files winbind and group: files winbind in nsswitch.conf, and have

Re: samba 3.0.23a Cannot join network
I had the same problem after upgrading to 3.0.23a. I have one samba PDC running a basic setup back to the smbpasswd file, and one that runs OpenLDAP. The former did exactly as yours, and I ended up rolling back to version 3.0.23. On the latter, the smb process refused to run, reporting that it could not contact the database. I ended up having to remove all the database files and reinstall
