Hello, I have just performed a yum update on my Fedora 5 machine, which I think included a samba update, and I cannot connect from WinXP to the shares defined on Fedora. can ls files, but can't cat files
I have a server roark (fedora core 5 with samba 3.0.23a-1.fc4.1) with a home directory awilliam. I'm trying to mount it on my linux workstation (fedora core 5, samba 3.0.23a-1.fc5.1). W2K3 Domain - Can't Connect to Share?
I have a linux box, Samba 3.0.23a, that is joined to a W2K3 domain. I cannot connect to the "MP3s" share (all legal!) on this system - I can connect to home directories and printers. When I try to connect to MP3s as any user on the domain, I get an Access is denied message, or it prompts me for the username and password again. I am using Winbind (if that matters), so none of these

cifs reading Samba mounted share...permissions error
I have a Samba 3.0.23a-1.fc5.1 configured on a Fedora 5 server. It's joined to an Active Directory 2003 domain controller using Winbind, etc. I'm able to connect from various workstations using active directory user accounts/credentials just fine to shares on this server, permissions work, and all is well. I'm guessing this is set up correctly. However, from another Fedora 5 server,

rsync bug with --relative and --delete fixed in CentOS5?
Yohoo! I'm using rsnapshot-1.3.0-1.el5.rf (from DAG) and rsync-2.6.9-1.el5.rf (from CentOS5) together. Rsnapshot now starts every task with the "--relative" switch. Without this switch it will backup all subsequent folders (like /proc and so on) which isn't desired. So I can't omit the "--relative". But there was a bug for rsync prior to 2.6.9 that it won't

Bug in kernel-space samba client (3.0.23a) on FC5 (2.6.17-1.2157_FC5)
On a client running FC5 with all packages updated from yum (running samba 3.0.23a-1.fc5.1 and the 2.6.17-1.2157_FC5 linux kernel), I cannot access multiple samba shares that have share-level security using cifs. 0. To reproduce, use a server that serves two shares with share-level security. Make sure the shares have different passwords. 1. Using the standard mount command and specifying cifs

domain group mapping in 3.0.23a issues
How does one create all of the builtin groups for this release? When using tdbsam with previous releases one would automatically get such groups as: System Operators (S-1-5-32-549) -> -1 Replicators (S-1-5-32-552) -> -1 Guests (S-1-5-32-546) -> -1 Domain Admins (S-1-5-21-1832519723-2688400599-3493754984-512) -> domadmin Domain Guests (S-1-5-21-1832519723-2688400599-3493754984-514)

samba 3.0.23a + ldap as PDC - should work, but why?
I've got an issue with roaming profiles with samba 3.0.23a and an LDAP backend. I can use the ldap to authenticate an NT and a local user, and I know alot about PAM, NSS, and general linux. BUT, I can't get ANY roaming profiles to work. Other than my domain name changed for security purposes, the following is my smb.conf file. (I first used SWAT, then did more customization)

The xp machine first says the user does not exist, I click ok and go back to the screen for the domain account authorized to join the domain and press ok (or next) again and this time the xp box says the

Issues getting started with samba4 from samba3
Hello, I've been working with Samba 3 (default from FC5 install) for a little bit but I wasn't too happy with profiles, logon scripts etc. as I need a PDC. So I checked out Samba 4 and have been trying to get started. I finally got swat working... as well as swat is working now. But how can I look at, modify, add, delete, etc. to the database? I configured the server with no additional

Newbie using John T's Examples (AD)
I'm following along with John T's examples book and I'm still befuddled on getting Samba working. The server is Fedora Core 5, Samba 3.0.23a-1.fc5.1 PDC is W2K SP4 with AD I basically copied/pasted the example smb.conf and nsswitch.conf to get a basic working config. The lines "template primary group" gave problems so I removed that one line. I run testparm -s and get:
