Srvtools causes smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root
I am using Samba 3.0.10-1 on Fedora Core 3. Most everything seems to be
working as I expect it to except when I try to use the srvtools package to
administrate the users and groups in the domain.
I want to check and see whether maybe I am just misunderstanding usage as
opposed to their being a configuration problem.
If I log into my workstation as Administrator, either the local account or

group for which a user exist with the same name that the specified

Help: smbd & nmbd normal states
I have just installed Fedora Core 5 with the Samba server. However only the
nmbd daemon is running. I thought both smbd and nmbd should be running.
On trying to start smbd with:
>/sbin/service smb start
the result is "starting smbd [FAILED]"
Stopping smbd of course has no effect, and starting or restarting nmbd works
just fine.
I'm stumped! I turned SELinux and the firewall off.

samba pdc & ldap without roaming profiles
Hi list
At the momtent I use samba as a pdc with tdbsam as passwd backend. I
plan to use ldap and I already tried it out. Unfortunately I didn't find
a way to disable roaming profiles. I used the smbldap tools.
First there is the question if I should use
add user script = /usr/sbin/smbldap-useradd -m "%u"
with the -a (is a Windows User) option.
If I don't, then windows account

Groups not listed in USERMGR.EXE
Dear list,
I'm using samba 3.0.2a on a RedHat Linux server. Samba is configured as
being a PDC. When I use
the usermanager from SRVTOOLS.EXE on my W2K workstation I don't see any
groups listed in the window
below the userlist. Also when I look at the properties of on of the user
(who is member of more than one
group) I only see that a primary group is assigned, the one in /etc/passwd.

just a test environment.

srvtools -- are these really useful?
I have installed 3.4.3 on a CentOS 5.4 box as a PDC with tdbsam
for a backend. All seems to be working as expected in the
Samba world.
With the intention of getting ordinary maintenance off of
my back, I downloaded and installed usrmgr and srvmgr in
/root/bin.
When I launch either of them from a WinXP workstation member
while logged into the domain as root, the domain is not found.
