mksmbpasswd.sh and passwd sync problems...
Hello Everyone!
I've spent quite a bit trying to get these shares to work just right. I'll past the output of my smb.conf at the end of this message. If anyone has any advice on this, that would be great.
My first problem is that I'm trying to sync up my /etc/passwd with the /etc/samba/smbpasswd file. (I'm using Mandrake 9.0 and Samba 2.2.6-1.0.pre2.2.mdk. Mandrake puts the

Strong security in user's accounts and paswords..
Hi, I have some databases running on CentOS4 with users accessing the
shell (bash), so I'd like to strong the security on my server in user's
accounts and passwords.. I mean, enforcing strong passwords, min/max age
passwords, locking passwords when you fail 3 times, and all this stuff.
Is there any package which do this work? Any tutorial?
Thanks in advance

X flag in smbpasswd?
mksmbpasswd.sh does not create accounts with the X flag in the password
flags field. Does this X matter, and if so, what does it mean? It's not in
the man page.

%d in configuration file does not work
I am trying to set up dovecot in a postfix virtual account/domains setting.
In the configuration file I would like to use %d in two places, for:
mail_location = /var/mail/vhosts/%d/%n
and to specify the location of the respective passwd file:
passdb passwd-file {
args = /etc/auth/%d/shadow
}
Looking at the logs, %d is empty while %n works, so dovecot is looking for

users/passwds
Could somebody please explain just how one is supposed to set up samba
users, groups and passwords so connections can be established to Win2k
clients to connect to FBSD samba server for file sharing and to use cups
for printing.
I am afraid that the manuals and config files and various examples I have
found on the Internet are quite confusing.

identical values not so identical? newbie help please!
Hi there!
I'm not sure I can create a minimal example of my problem, so I'm linking to
a minimal .RData file that has only two objects: obs and exp, each is a 6x9
matrix. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10364753/test.RData link to dropbox file
(I hope this is acceptable mailing list etiquette!)
Here's what happens:

howto sync unix passwd & samba passwd?
Hi,
I'm using samba-3.0.28-0.fc8. I'm trying to build a file server for 100
users. I created a perl script that automatically adds the 100 users plus
their passwords with success. Now I'm having difficulty creating a script
using the smbpasswd command because passwords must be entered in stdin. I
also tried smbpasswd -s option but it asks passwd in stdin. Is there a way
that I can use

Open files
Hello
I'm running a Win2K box with a dialogic voice application. The prompt files
are on an AIX 5.1 box. By using smbstatus I'm finding that the prompt files
aren't closing. The open files build up until the server hits the per
process limit, at which point everything falls apart.
I was running samba 2.07, but I just upgraded to 3.0.23rc3 and I still have
the problem.

Restoring SYSVOL Replication After S4
I realize this is not a Samba specified quesiton... but I thought
someone here might have some experience with this.
After migrating from an purely S4 AD domain to a purely Windows 2008R2
AD domain one is left with no functioning SYSVOL replication (FRS or
DFS). This makes sense as S4 is not aware of SYSVOL replication. So
the question is how to bootstrap SYSVOL replication on a set of

Setting global variables inside R reference class ?
Hello,
I'm a newbie to R, I have a quesiton.
I'm a bit confused on global variable assignments.
I have the following situation. I have 2 global variables current_idx and
previous_idx. *These 2 global variables have to be set by a method in a
reference class*.
Essentially, using <<- assignment operator should work right ? But, I get

Yes, add another DC, but you will probably have to do it in stages,
Samba 4.0.x went EOL 9 years ago. I think you would have to upgrade to
4.5.x then 4.20.x

Samba encrypt passwd
Hi,
I have samba installed on my Linux system (Red Hat
7.2), and
Windows 98 on another PC as a Samba client. Samba
works great
if PlainTextPassword is enabled. However, if
PlainTextPassword is
disabled on Windows client, connection to the Samba
shares no
longer accepted.
I believe I've done everything in order to make
encrypt passwd working:
