Correction to vec-subset speed patch
I found a bug in one of the fourteen speed patches I posted, namely in
patch-vec-subset. I've fixed this (I now see one does need to
duplicate index vectors sometimes, though one can avoid it most of the
time). I also split this patch in two, since it really has two
different and independent parts. The patch-vec-subset patch now has
only some straightforward (locally-checkable) speedups for

No config change, no clients change, no sharing changes.? F31 had smb

after restarting service it works for a while then it breaks with
various messages for each client
I tried removing some old parameters (no help), I had mounted ssd drive

How to apply a function to subsets of a data frame *and* obtain a data frame again?
Dear all,
First, let's create some data to play around:
set.seed(1)
(df <- data.frame(Group=rep(c("Group1","Group2","Group3"), each=10),
Value=c(rexp(10, 1), rexp(10, 4), rexp(10, 10)))[sample(1:30,30),])
## Now we need the empirical distribution function:
edf <- function(x) ecdf(x)(x) # empirical distribution function evaluated at x

par("uin") ?
I inherited a function written either for an older version of R or SPlus
to draw a brace, "{", in a graph. It uses par("uin") to determine the
scaling of the
quarter circles that make up segments of the brace, but that setting
doesn't
exist in current R.
I'm guessing that, in the function below, ux, uy can be defined from
par("usr") and

misdn timeout?
Hi all
I have a very strange problem here...
I use a hfc-s card with mISDN in NT mode with an ISDN Phone connected.
When I make a call, the phone rings two or three times and then misdn runs
into a timeout...
I don't know where to set that timeout, but it's way to short for the called
to pick up the phone.
If the destination phone is picked up, then everything is allright and the

Function completely locks up my computer if the input is too big
Dear r-help,
Somewhere in my innocuous function to rotate an object in Cartesian space
I've created a monster that completely locks up my computer (requires a
hard reset every time). I don't know if this is useful description to
anyone - the mouse still responds, but not the keyboard and not windows
explorer.
The script only does this when the input matrix is large, and so my initial

asterisk DTMF detection
Hi,
Hi All,
I've just delved into the world of asterisk and I'm having a few dtmf issues.
Internally, amongst sip phones, dtmf is fine.
Externally, if you ring from a GSM mobile, DTMF is fine, however if
you ring from a standard phone, DTMF fails to register.
I am attempting to use a quad port HFC-4S Beronet Card. I've been
searching the web most of the last week and

New RadRails tutorial using AWDWR book
Hello there,
I am basically a J2EE refugee fascinated with Rails.
I have been using the Spring framework (a lightweight J2EE java framework
with some special characteristics) but I am so impressed with RoR that I am
porting over many applications.
In order to "dive into Rails", of course the second thing to do was get
myself an IDE, and since I''ve been using Eclipse for the

I'm fitting a model with lm() and using the orthogonal polynomials

grid(Base): How to avoid "Figure region too small and/or viewport too large" by specifying 'relative' units?
Dear grid-expeRts,
The goal:
I would like to construct a plot (matrix) with grid and gridBase,
which consists of four "sub-plots". The sub-plots should have a square plotting
region as one would force with par(pty="s") in base graphics.
The problem:
I don't get a square plotting region, not even by specifying
pty="s" in par(). Indeed, if you display the grid
