Migrating from NT4 print server to Samba print server
Hello, I was hoping someone could help me with migrating printers from a WinNT4 print server to a Samba server. I have searched the web for days and haven't found a solution. I am running Slackware 10.1; kernel 2.4.29. I upgraded Samba to 3.0.21c recently and I am using LPR v3.8.28 as my print spooler. Here is the response from the 'rpc migrate printers' command:

I am using Slackware 10.2 (kernel 2.4.29) and Samba 3.0.21c for my print server. The client workstations are WinNT4. I have two printers on the linux server..an HP DeskJet 600 and an Okidata B4250. I can install and print to the HP from any of the workstations. I can install the Okidata just fine, but when I try to print from Word, Excell, or any application Dr. Watson comes to visit. I get

samba3 with ldap: connections from WinXP and smbclient 3 are OK, but not from WinNT and smbclient 2
Hello, please excuse if this question was asked before, but I wasn't able to find an answer for my problem in the list archive nor (with google) on a website. Here is my problem: I use Samba 3 from Debian/unstable together with ldap. The ldap-server is a NDS Server (Novell directory service/eDirectory). Authentication works well - with the smbclient of samba 3.x - from Windows2000 with

How can $VARIABLES be used inside smbclient -c'xyz' command strings?
Hi, being a total newbie in shellscripting and similar stuff, I am suffering from a brain freeze around the following problem: * I need to print (or transfer otherwise) to a WinNT box; * the files are send from inside a shellscript; * the script gets the filename on the commandline when started; * so the only knows it works on "$1"; * the problem is, that the original filename needs to

Hello, I am currently testing my old samba configuration, 1.9.18p10, under samba 2.0.2. Everything appeard o.k. for the first few hours, but then I started receiving calls from users of our Citrix based multi user NT 3.51 servers, that some of them could not connect to the samba shares. We are using two Citrix based boxes. Windd from Tektronix and NTRIGUE. I only had one user on the Windd

EAC (exactaudiocopy) in openSUSE 10.2
Hello wine users: Could someone, please, help me how to make work EAC with wine in openSUSE 10.2? Earlier (SUSE 10.1) I could configure wine to use windows 2000 as default windows version and EAC to use 'native Win32 interface for WinNT/2000/XP' and these worked together fine. Now in openSUSE 10.2 (wine version wine-0.9.37-12.1) when I start EAC with wine I get: a) when the interface

diff. file date/time shown between smbmount and smbclient
I am using samba to connect to a WinNT 4.0 server (NT LAN Manager 4.0) and I am not getting the correct file date/time displayed when I use smbmount (actually "ls" displays the wrong date/time after performing smbmount). If I connect using smbclient all file date/time values are displayed correctly. Here are some examples: (smbclient) Wed Dec 1 15:50:00 1999 = (smbmount) Fri Jan 02

NetApp Toaster w/ SMBCLIENT
The problem you describe below is fixed in Data NOTAP 5.3x. If you're on an older version, you might want to upgrade. There's another issue, though. The fix for which should be in the next release of Data ONTAP, which isn't far off (sorry for being vague). If you're interested in a good NetApp mailing list that's not run by NetApp, drop an email to:

Winpopup Broadcast? (smbclient -M to workgroup)?
Has anyone modified smbclient to send winpopup-style message broadcasts to Win95 workgroups/WinNT domains? If not, any tips on how I could go about doing it? What section of the SMB RFCs (1001, 1002, 1003) would be likely to talk about it? (I'm not sufficiently versed in low-level SMB, so most of the RFCs are still Greek to me. So if someone kindly points me in the right direction I think

smbclient can back up WNT system disks?
Can the "tar" function in SMBCLIENT be used to successfully backup and restore a remote WNT 4 sp3 system disk? I'm guessing no, because: 1. active registry files, so restored disk may not be bootable 2. loss of ACLs and other "extra" file properties in tar format Anybody tried it? This is for machines with SCSI adapters, so even if we have to replace the system disk

Rsync Hangs 100% of the time when copying files from win2k machin es to linux
Hey guys, I've been working with rsync for the last couple weeks and I really need some help here. Linux to Linux transfers are working beautifully, but for the life of me I can't get transfers from win2k to work. I have the exact problem that was reported by Mark de Jong on Tue, 16 Jul 2002. I'm using the lastest version of cygwin, with rsync 2.5.5 and ssh 3.5p1 for my tests. The

smbclient does not show.....
Hi, this is a new user who is trying to reach the local network, managed by a windows NT server. I have edited my smb.conf file (which I include) so to be able to reach the network drives and the printers on the ntserver locally. When I try to see what is available using smbclient at the prompt, I cannot see which are the Services available (sharename fields empty), but I do see a lot of things

smbclient failing due to switch MAC addr table timeout
3.0.21c on RHEL3. I use smbclient to transfer files from Samba to WIN PCs, name resolution is through bcast on local LAN. The network is not managed by me, all PC's are connected through switches (no routers). Sometimes ago network admins started decreasing the MAC addr table timeout in the switches setting it to 300 secs, this increased dramatically the chances a MAC is not in the switch

smbclient segfault with mulicast DNS (mdns) enabled
Hello list, Using Samba-3.0.21c (with these USE flags: cups doc postgres python xml xml2) as a standalone server on Gentoo Linux in a small LAN. I noticed the following: when using mutlicast DNS (mdns, for example to make use of zeroconf [1] in a network with Macs and Linux and Windows machines) with a resolver like Apple's mDNSResponder, avahi [3] or a client like nss-mdns [2] one has
