AIX problem
We are running 3.4p1. After upgrading to AIX 5.1, the "w" function (in ksh) stopped showing ssh logins. We upgraded to 3.6p1, no luck. Any thoughts? --- Jack Gostl gostl at argoscomp.com

Fw: Files left open
I'm still stuggling with files left open. My app is a Dialogic application on a Win2K box. The host is running AIX 5.1 ML2 and samba 3.0.23a. Whenever my PC app speaks a prompt stored on the AIX box, the file stays open. smbstatus, fuser and lsof all agree the file is open. All other apps that I've tried, Winzip, pkzip, vi, etc., behave properly. I just can't believe this is a

Numeric "Label" of Factor value?
Sorry, I'm sure I'm not using the appropriate vocab here, which is undoubtedly why I can't seem to find a fix to this (hopefully very easy) problem. Suppose you have a factor abc <- factor(c(2,2,3,4,7,7)) And you want to know what the number in the nth spot in that would be abc[1] [1] 2 Levels: 2 3 4 7 shows the correct label of the first element - but if I want to pull out the

Summarizing elements of a list
Hi everyone, I looked around the list for a while but couldn't find a solution to my problem. I am storing some results to a simulation in a list and for each element i have two separate vectors(is that what they are called, correct my vocab if necessary). See below Version1_<-list() for(i in 1:5){ Version1_[[i]]<-list(First=rnorm(1),Second=rnorm(1)) } What I want is to put all

Problem preserving user/group names on AIX, rsync 2.6.2
I am having a bit of a problem with rsync 2.6.2 on AIX and I was wondering if this might just be the expected behavior. When using the -o and -g flags, the user and group names are NOT preserved on the receiving side, however, the UIDs/GIDs are preserved. I checked the OLDNEWS file and bugzilla, but could not find any reference to a problem like this. Vitals: -rsync 2.6.2 with security patch

disperse variable
Hello all, I read the following variable > x x 1 1_A1_ML1_a.DLL 2 11_B1_ML2_a.DLL 3 4_A1_ML3_a.DLL 4 55_C1_ML4_a.DLL 5 14_C1_ML5_a.DLL I would like to disperse it in three variable such as > x1 [1] 1 11 4 55 14 > x2 [1] "A1" "B1" "A1" "C1" "C1" > x3 [1] "ML1" "ML2" "ML3"

Open files
Hello I'm running a Win2K box with a dialogic voice application. The prompt files are on an AIX 5.1 box. By using smbstatus I'm finding that the prompt files aren't closing. The open files build up until the server hits the per process limit, at which point everything falls apart. I was running samba 2.07, but I just upgraded to 3.0.23rc3 and I still have the problem. I used

How-To construct a cov list to use a covariance matrix in factanal?
Hi, I have a set of covariance matrices but not the original data. I want to carry out some exploratory factor analysis. So, I am trying to construct a covariance matrix list as the input for factanal. I can construct a list which includes the cov, the centers, and the n.obs. But it doesn't work. I get an error that says "Error in sqrt(diag(cv)) : Non-numeric argument to mathematical

Problem with large files corrupting during transfer
I'm very new to Samba, and I'm supporting my team's migration to a new server. We are running v3.0.23b, ML3 and AIX v5.3, and we're pulling data from NT servers. V2.2.2 (what we are using on the old server) would not compile on the new box, so we have to upgrade. Files >2.8gb are corrupting during the transfer. That 2.8gb file is the largest we've gotten to go through

Using virtio for inter-VM communication
Hi, i am working on the jailhouse[1] project and am currently looking at inter-VM communication. We want to connect guests directly with virtual consoles based on shared memory. The code complexity in the hypervisor should be minimal, it should just make the shared memory discoverable and provide a signaling mechanism. We would like to reuse virtio so that Linux-guests will eventually just work

Possible memory leak in smbd?
I noticed one of my smbd processes for one particular client (IUSR_JUNIPER) is taking 200MB in memory, far different from all the other smbd processes. Should I be concerned about a memory leak here? I don't think samba would be caching any files, so I can't see why it'd use this much memory. That windows client is a win2k IIS5 server, with well over 60 sites that are hosted off a

strang locking behaviour with macosx clients
I'm running a samba pdc on my gentoo box in a mixed environment with a couple of Windows XP clients and only a few MacOSX clients. The users told me, the file locking across the platforms does not work properly sometimes. I tried to google my problem, but without luck. I switched all the flags related the lock mechanism of samba on and off, but the problem seems to be solved yet. The only

signon problem
I am using openssh version 3.6p1 under AIX 5.1. I am trying to change the login herald. I have changed /etc/security/login.cfg, and when logging in via telnet, I see the new herald. When I log in through ssh, using public key authentication, I get the default herald. I am not sure if I am changing the correct file. If I have missed something in the documentation I apologize, but I don't see

Exclusive oplock left by process
Hi all, We have a HP-UX 11i server running as a samba server. Users use Windows 2000 boxes with Service Pack 4 to connect to the samba server. Several days ago, we upgraded samba server from 2.0.7 to 3.0.5, and we started to experience the following problem: The general connection and access to the samba server is ok. However, under the samba share there have been some directories mounted from
