No Mapping between account names and security IDs was done
I had inquired about this in that past and was not given a direct
answer. For whatever it is worth, here are my findings, also in response
to this thread

I just discovered that you should make sure that samba has not generated
a new sambaDomainName=<domainname> entry in LDAP that contains a SID

Samba as PDC - No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.
Hello everyone,
I?m trying to set Samba as a primary NT domain controller in my small home network. I?ve been going step by step trough the HOW TO on Samba PDC. When I got to the part where I should log a client (a windows 2000 workstation, no SPs installed) into the domain (called HOME) I keep getting ?No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.?. I guess I forgot to do something

no mapping between account names and security ids was done
I use a openLDAP database for authentication on my Redhat 7.2 server. The
domain is "HOME". I have had no problem adding trust accounts and
authenticating against it.
Today I had to change the name of my Win2K workstation from poseiden to
poseiden1 for compatibility with a package I am testing. Once I changed it
and put in a new trust account, I could not rejoin the domain.
I gave up and

explorer.exe: no mapping between names and security ids was done
... I just want to put this somewhere easily searchable based on the users error message.
Upgrading a domain controller to Debian 8 (samba 3 to 4) resulted in the message "no mapping between names and security
ids was done" at times. The message appears on the windows 7 domain pcs when running explorer.exe. Also other basic
things did not work: internet explorer, or mapping between

smb-ldap or not to smb-ldap
Hi all,
We are deploying a Linux server and desktops for a customer. We will
have the users and groups in LDAP on the server, and files shared via NFS.
However, one never knows if Windows desktops will be needed in the
future. Is it a good idea to add users with smb-ldap even if samba is
not initially used, as adding the samba attributes to an existing LDAP
database is painful, and the

Vote for CentOS - AGAIN :)
The preliminary round voting is completed in the "2005 Readers' Choice
Awards" at Linux Journal.
CentOS was nominated in the "distribution:" category along with 18 other
Linux distros ... and we finished in the top 3 (along with Ubuntu and
FedoraCore).
Thanks to every one who voted for CentOS. I really did not expect that
we would be on the final ballot, though I am

No mapping between usernames and ID's was done
To Whom This May Concern,
I am getting the error "No mapping between usernames and ID's
was done" when trying to add a Win2k SP2 box to my Samba domain. I have
checked various smb.conf files and not noticed that I am missing
anything etc. I was able to get to this machine to join a samba domain
approx 6 months ago but had to scrap the domain due to my samba box
dying. I have hacked

S.M.A.R.T
At my physics lab we have 30 servers with 1TB disk packs. I am in need
of monitoring for disk failures. I have been reading about SMART and
it seems it can help. However, I am not sure what to look for if a
drive is about to fail. Any thoughts about this? Is anyone using this
method to predetermine disk failures?
TIA

Converting asterisk h264 recordings
Hello,
We are setting up an asterisk system for voicemail with video possibilities.
We are not using the voicemail app, but rather writing our own dialplan
logic. The part of recording, and replaying, the voicemail works, and we
receive both an h264 and an wav-file. What I now wonder is how to convert
these into one file playable by a (standard) media player. I have not found
any real good

Mangling problem
Hi,
I have a strange problem with Samba on RedHat 7.2. In one directory there is
many files with similar long file name (10+ digit file name for many
pictures). When I dir this directory, I can see many files with different
long file name, but with exactly the same short file name. There is about
3-5 files with the same 8.3 DOS file name.
I really don't understand how can it happen and what

Re: drop silently locally generated packets
Hi. I want to drop silently locally generated packets on a specific
interface. I tried 2 approaches:
tc qdisc del dev eth0 root
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: htb
tc filter add dev eth0 parent 1: proto ip u32 match ip dst 10.10.10.1 flowid
1:1 police conform-exceed drop/drop
tc qdisc del dev eth0 root
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: prio bands 2 priomap 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
