%U/%u expansions in Mixed Active Directory (2000/XP/2003 Server) and NT4 environment with samba 3.0.0 and winbind
Hi all,
I have had the unfortunate joy of upgrading my PDC to Windows Server 2003
and active directory, I also upgraded to samba 3.0.0 on a debian testing
box. Before I was running a happy little environment with Windows NT4 and
Samba 2.2.8 with winbind using the "winbind use default domain = yes".
Migration went smooth, switch to security = ADS and joined the directory.
Everything was

problems compiling under solaris
Hi!
I've been trying to compile R with gcc version 3.4.2 on a box running Solaris 2.6.
I keep on hitting this error during the compile:

Migration from NT4 to W2K3 AD
Are there any gotcha's.....
I am currently using winbindd and very successfully integrating my Samba
boxes with the NT4 domain structure. The admin who is doing the migration
(A corporate person not used to Linux at all) is already nervous about the
migration since it involves Linux.
Usernames are not supposed to change..but, the authentication domain is
going to be a completely new

moving from nt4 to active directory
I have 2 AIX systems that run Samba. We are currently on an NT4 domain and
moving to Active directory. I am trying to find out what all would be needed
to make that transition.
The only authenification is for users connecting to their shares.
I read one site via Google that states I need to create a user (Rocky) on
both Samba and the AD server with different passwords but this does not seem

Why would I want Active Directory (rather, how to ar gue against it?)
I asked the same questions Brian when we upgraded our network from a Novell
NDS/Windows NT environment to Windows 2000 a couple of years ago. I thought
it overly complex and expensive. Admittedly the Samba PDC emulation was not
as advanced as it is now, but I could see nothing wrong with using a simple
NT domain model and Samba PDCs as the customer had <100 users.
The big arguments for were

Samba PDC on NT4 Domain
Hello,
At my school, the Domain logons are handled for all students through
a collection of Domain Controllers. Our WebTeam maintains a Linux
server, and in the past has had it set up as a Samba PDC through which
they can log in and access their files on the webserver through shares.
The webteam no longer uses Windows 98 computers, and has moved to XP
computers. The problem here is that XP joins a

RES: Samba 3.0.2a with ADS w2k3 Active Directory, enctype s
Hi Jim,
I did what the doc says but the problem is the same.
Does anybody saw this work ? I mean, is the Samba 3.0.2a+Kerberos MIT 1.3.3
able to be accessed by a WXP, W2K or W2K3 machine, using Kerberos tickets
generated in a Windows 2003 KDC (W2K3 AD) ?
Thanks

Joining an NT4 Domain: NT_STATUS_INVALID_COMPUTERNAME
Hello all-
Using samba 2.2.5 on FreeBSD 5 (a few months old).
I'm trying to get my FreeBSD box to serve out samba
shares using NT4 domain authentication. I've got
Win2K PDCs (a couple different domains) running in
mixed mode.
These are the steps I'm taking:
1) As NT domain administrator, I create machine
accounts in the domain for my FreeBSD box.
2) On the FreeBSD box, I

Samba 3.0.2a with ADS w2k3 Active Directory, enctypes
Hi people,
I have a Linux box running Samba 3.0.2a in ADS mode MIT Kerberos 1.3.3. My
W2K e WXP users can't access the linux box by netbios name, the only access
that works is by IP address, I know that's caused because access thought IP
address don't make use of Kerberos. The most strange for me it's that the
same environment works fine with a W2K Active Directory, I read in same

Samba3 Trust Relationships?
Hey all,
After setting up a migration server (a server which
will act as a test for a Samba 3.x environment), so
we can make sure our migration from Samba 2.2.x
to 3.x goes as smoothly as possible, I've hit upon
a problem, now I am not sure whether this is the
fault of Samba (my configuration) or NT4 or
whether this is infact designed behaviour for
both/either servers. I'd like to

Windows 2003 AD/Kerberos Ticket error
I'm attempting to configure Samba 3.0.4 to work with Windows 2003 Active
Directory, mapping users' home directories automatically. Currently we
use this method in production with Windows 2000 but wish to migrate to
2003. The problem seems to be Kerberos related. I was able to join the
Linux box (RedHat 9) to the AD. I can do a "kinit <username>"
successfully. Klist shows a

how to create NTConfig.POL?
Is there a way to create an NTConfig.POL file without having access to an
NT4, w2k or w2k3 server?
Is there a way to do it in linux? Or a winxp/9x workstation?

Everyone group.
Hi all,
I have a problem setting ACL on a share like below:
/data
/user
/user_1
/user_2
/user_ ...
Particularry if I want to get complete control to a user on his personal
folder but get off any permission to Everyone group also this user (that
belongs to Everyone) cannot list and access to his folder.
When I was connected to NT4 server I didn't have this kind of problem.

Authenticating Linux boxes against Active Directory, using Samba as a sort of AD Proxy
Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to find a open source solution to authenticate a bunch of
Linux machines (and, ideally, network devices etc.) against Active
Directory, as unfortunately in our organization this is the primary
source of account data. The complication we have is that my
organization has more than one Active Directory Domain, each hosted on
its own collection of domain controllers. This

adding samba3 to Active Directory Domain
To Whom It May Concern:
I really admire the dedication and effort your group has. I am glad more and more people aren't buying into the Microsoft licensing schemes. Keep up the good work!
I would like to add the server I have installed to our Active Directory Domain. We have one Win2003 PDC no subnets very basic stuff. I have read many chapters in the official how to guide and

Deny login for a specific user in a specific machine in a samba domain
Well, samba 3 can't act as AD DC, so I guess the only way I can achieve
this remotely is setting this in registry using a login script. How can I
set this in registry? There Isn't something that automates the creation of
scripts that change policies by registry?

Auto-Create Directory
I have a samba server set so that each user in a windows 2003
active directory can have their own personal, private share. I
would like to know how to set up Samba so that their directory
is created automatically, rather than me creating 1300
directories on the linux server.
I cannot use pam_mkhomedir.so because 'security = ads' in

Samba 3.0.2a with ADS w2k3 Active Directory, enctypes
Hi,
I'm about an article:
This is a bug in Win2k3. See knowledgebase KB833708. The KB article
itself isn't correct, because it states that if you request des-cbc-crc
you'll get des-cbc-md5 tickets, but in reality you get rc4-hmac tickets.
The KB article points you to a hotfix or a registry setting.
I have the problem with W2003+samba, tried even that patch, but nothing
