Identically named users and groups
We have a Linux user and group with the same name (username prox,
group name prox) and a Samba share with "force user = prox" set.
Since upgrading from Samba 3.0.21b to Samba 3.0.23a, that share no
longer works. smbclient gives the following error when connecting to
the share:
tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER
The Samba server logs the following error:

Segfault in Samba
What do the messages below mean? I lost all network connectivity and
started receiving these messages after changing username map from root =
DELSOLW2K\Administrator to root = @"DELSOLW2K\Domain Admins".
The system is Debian Sarge with Simo's latest debs and security = ADS.
Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/libthread_db.so.1".

Is 'force user/group' misbehaving?
Hello list,
I'm running ubuntu server 7.10 amd64 and trying to set up a samba server for
a LAN.
Samba version is 3.0.26a IIRC (I can't access the machine ATM)
I'm stumped with a problem and I believe it's related, somehow, with the
'force user' parameter, so I created this testcase to seek for help...
In the example smb.conf I'm trying to create one share accessible

Samba Permissions
Hi,
I have a case where I only want to restrict access to SMB shares via filesystem permissions (and POSIX ACLs). Therefore, I do not want Samba to verify security in any way at the SMB level. If the filesystem/ACL permissions allow access to the shared directory, so should Samba. If the filesystem does not allow access to the filesystem, Samba should deny as well.
I thought I had this

3.0.25 breaks "username map"?
Hi there
I was using "username map" under 3.0.24 so that when I connected from
DOM\jhaar under (ADS Win2K3) Windows, it was mapped to my local "jhaar"
Unix account - with homedir "/home/jhaar", etc.
However, when I upgraded to 3.0.25, I started getting
NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE errors - even when just trying to list the
shares. This occurred using smbclient as well as

guest account = nobody
map to guest = bad user
map to guest = bad password

login fails if smbusers is used to map domain admin to root.
Hi,
i am trying to map the domain administrator to root using the
smbusers file in order to be able to set file permissions from windows.
Unfortunately, while the map itself seem to succeed, the logins fails.
If i remove the relevant line in smbusers, login succeed but i lack
superuser privileges.
Here is log.smbd while trying to map administrator to root

3.0.23 and group behavior
Okay, first the admisssions:
I'll admit that I haven't been following the development as
closely as I probably should have. And I'll admit in this case I might
not be using Samba in the most efficient way possible. Also, I'm not
100% sure if I'm encountering a bug or just a seriously stupid
misconfiguration issue. And I'm still collecting data on exactly what
happened.

winbindd issues on member server
Hi there
After having posted a while ago about the trouble I had with 3.0.23 I
gave it another try with 3.0.23d
I installed the current version on our samba PDC and BDC while the
member server was still running 3.0.22. This setup has worked for a
couple of weeks with no issues.
I then upgraded the member server two days ago to 3.0.23d and after
serveral hours I could not connect via ssh to

sid_to_uid/public share problem
I've got a public share that any user is supposed to be able to access. But no
matter who I try to connect as, I get the dreaded: "NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER".
Important info: Samba version: 3.0.28a, OS: Kubuntu 8.04
Looking at the logs, I think the problem is here:

Samba 3.0.23c Upgrade Errors
On my 3rd and final Debian server (upgraded in reverse order of
importance), the upgrade from 3.0.22 to 3.0.23c is producing segfault
errors ( Security is ADS). The log from the system attempting to
connect is provided below. The other two had a few issues, but were
fixable. To make the other two work, I had to change the winbind
separator from "+" to the default "\".

[Bridge] Getting + maintaining a consistent MDB view in userspace?
Hi,
Is there a recommended way to get and monitor the MDB state from
userspace, without potential synchronization races?
I can use "bridge monitor mdb" to get changes or "bridge mdb show"
to get the current state (as well as use the underlying netlink
calls from my own application without the "bridge" command).
But if I were first calling "bridge mdb
