group policy (2000/XP)
Hello all, I am a new user of samba, that's look pretty cool. I use samba 3.x. There are only windows 2000 client(and 1 XP) in french language. I don't have any license of some server version like windows NT4 server, 2000 or 2003 server. One think i would like to do is setting the time of the windows 2000 client. I write in the "logon script" : net time /domain:mydomain

NTConfig.POL not working for Win 2000 (for XP working fine)?
I'm just exploring the Profile Editor, described on http://www.pcc-services.com/custom_poledit.html - and policies saved to NTConfig.pol file and copied to the netlogon share work great for Windows XP machines. However, with Windows 2000, they don't work at all. Winh XP machines - policies are applied. I see in Samba logs that the NTConfig.pol is copied from the server to the w2k

Policies for AD clients (still poledit only ?).
I'm creating a deploy plan, for strict client policies (to comply to ISO standards and security) For mixed win 7 enterprise and win 10 enterprise on a Samba Active Directory. On the lookout if Samba would be any different towards client policies. I did some googling, and got pointed to old samba articles of 2007: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Implementing_System_Policies_with_Samba

Printing trouble with Windows XP clients; Windows 7 and Mac client work fine
I'm trying to switch our network from IP-based printing (directly to the printers) to using Samba printing via our existing server, both for Point-and-Print functionality and to be able to log print usage. I've followed the directions in the HOWTO and also the policy information in the WIKI (at http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Implementing_System_Policies_with_Samba) to remove

Policies for AD clients (still poledit only ?).
So only for old NT4 style PDC - BDC environment one needs poledit. While AD's (with virtual pdc role servers) can use the MMC.? We got a pure Samba AD environment and thus it should work. Be it that we might not have all mmc templates (not yet checked that). Thanks Viktor. -----Original message----- From: Viktor Trojanovic?<viktor at troja.ch> Sent: Wednesday 21st October 2020

Can't create/update Group Policy in Samba 4.6.5
Hai, the steps are (basily) good, only this one can be better.   >To solve, I executed the following commands: >Chown 10060: 30028 -R sysvol >Chmod 775 -R sysvol   If you use acl_xattr:ignore system acls = yes on the sysvol share, you must configur the share from withing windows.  (* or use smbcalcs , but i never used it. )   This is what i see:   ls -al  sysvol total 24 drwxrwx---+ 3

The use of goup policies in XP and Vista
Hi all, Can anyone point me in the right direction to apply Group Policies from a Samba 3.0.26 PDC to my Windows XP and Vista clients. I read chapter 26 of the Samba manual (dated April 3 2003) and I was wondering if the NTConfig.POL file in the NETLOGON share is the way to go here? Regards, Joost.

My Documents Folder Redirection to Samba Share
Does anyone know how to setup the smb.conf file for the my document folder redirection in windows. If I point it to a root share, with a Microsoft file server, it will automatically create a folder for each user with a my documents folder under that. How can I get that to happen with a samba share. Using Debian Etch and Samba 3.0.24 and fairly new to samba. The default smb.conf makes mention

Perl on Windows XP for Rcmd build
Is there a recommended binary version of perl to use under Windows XP for `Rcmd build'? The R FAQ for Windows just mentions "perl". I think that Kevin Wang's document on R for Windows suggests ActiveState perl but I have not been able to install it. I am running Windows XP Professional on a laptop. The operating system was originally Windows 98 then upgraded to Windows ME

Hi all! I'm a system administrator for a company that uses Samba (the latest, 3.0.14a) as a PDC for a subnet with various windows clients. The following diagram illustrates the situation of the various host in my network: +----------+ | Win 2003 | +--+-------+ - Clients - | 10.100.0.0/16 | +--------+ |

Policy Editor and Groups?
Hey, Quick question. We run Samba 2.2.8, is there a version of Samba (2.2.x/3.x) that allows me to do the following : Go into Poledit, add a group that corresponds to a UNIX group (e.g. Staff) and set policies on it, having those policies apply to ANYONE in UNIX group 'staff' ? The samba server we have is the only PDC and have several NT4 servers as members only. Any thoughts? I

Can't create/update Group Policy in Samba 4.6.5
Hai, In reponse to the why i recommend that. Since this is a "windows" only share, i recomment to set it up for that usage, with results in better matching for windows rights. Resulting in better working policies. The current POSIX rights did not match to my needs and resulted in inconsistant policies. This is why i use these for profiles and sysvol. And this is my setup order:
