samba 3.0 as PDC and Winxp
Hi, I setup a samba 3.0alpha24-1 as PDC (simple with smbpasswd without LDAP:-( ). With Windows 2000 everything works fine (server profiles, mapping the home directory of the users as Z:/ etc.) But :-( Windows XP I could join the domain (without any trouble). But I could not login as a user. Windows XP returns domain is not accessible (die domain ist nicht verf?gbar). But when I login to the

Setting up a PDC + multiple BDCs across subnets
hello, I'd like to setup domain authentication purely based on Samba Domain Controllers. Each subnet would have its own BDC (with security = domain option), forwarding smb requests to the PDC (located on the backbone), ie authentication, shares.. My PDC is LDAP based, all that part is ok, win98 workstations successfully log into the PDC. I use idealx smbldap tools, that seem to work fine. I

Domain Authorization
Greetings, Normally I lurk on a list before posting, but I don't have the luxury to take the time to lurk this time around. I apologize ahead of time for any breaches of etiquette that you have on the list. I have just setup a RedHat 6.0 system with Samba 2.0.6 (via RPM packages, not source.) I've been adminning Linux for four years, but this is my first attempt with Samba, so I'm

Method for joining machines to PDC without using root
currently, in order to join a win XP machine to a samba PDC, you have to use the root account (although you can use an smbpasswd and not the linux password). is there any way to set up another account to do this one particular task (one without uid=0)?. if we have users in remote places, i do not want to have to go over to their work station just to log them on the the domain. alsoi don't

PDC samba
Hi, Got two questions. 1. If I'd added a machine to my domain (using samba as pdc) with the followig commands: /usr/sbin/useradd -g machines -c XPMachine -d /dev/null -s /bin/false $1$ /usr/bin/smbpasswd -a -m $1$ How should I then remove one of them if made a mistake osv? 2. How can I change the adminpassword for PDC? /Jens THX

OK, one more time on the PDC thing
My apologies, I'm terribly sorry to belabor these PDC issues to the point where everyone is undoubtedly tired of hearing about them, but I have become absolutely obsessed with trying to solve this PDC problem. Here is what is happening now. I'm trying to connect to the Samba server which is set up as the PDC (domain PLAB) from windows client "venus". Windows prompts me to

Hello experts, I wanted to have my samba server working as a the PDC, so I followed all the steps from the 'using samba' documentation. Setting up PDC with PAM
According to the documentation on setting up Samba to be a PDC. It says that you have to enable encrypted passwords for it to work! Now for Samba with PAM to work the documentation says that you can't have encrypted passwords enabled! So does that mean that I can't set up Samba has a PDC and use PAM to authenticate the users! Reason I ask is I did have Samba set up as a PDC with 3

Setting Separate File server from Samba PDC
I'm aim to set up a file server that is separate from my SAMBA PDC. I've had no problem setting file server up, and joining it to he domain using smbpasswd. Can I use winbind with a SAMBA PDC or is it meant only for Windows NT servers. When creating shares on this file server, I need to allow permissions to various groups and or users. How can I do this. Do I need to set up NIS? Thank

Samba file server -- samba domain join problem
Hello, I recently upgraded a network to FC3 from RH9 (I know, I know, behind the times). The network is small: one PDC, one file server. The PDC (Samba, LDAP, DNS, DHCP all on FC3) is running fine. Seamless between linux logins and windows XP. Users can log in, see the shares, mount drives. The second file server is just going to be an NFS and Samba server. The plan is to use security=domain

Users/Machines Unable to Logon to Samba PDC
I have Samba 2.2.7 running on RedHat Linux 7.3 (kernel 2.4.18)... the system has been running just fine since the initial install four plus months ago. All of a sudden, starting this mid-morning, users are unable to logon to their Windows 2000 machines. They receive the following message: "The system cannot log you on to this domain because the system's computer account in its primary

Samba3.0beta1 as PDC with LDAP
I finally got Samba-3.0beta1 as PDC with LDAP backend. However, I need to specify: passdb backend = ldapsam smbpasswd:smbpasswd guest and have the root account's exists in smbpasswd file. I still could not get a uid=root entry in LDAP to allow client workstation to join the domain. When in samba-2.2.8a I could use a fake rid=506 with uidNumber=0 entry in LDAP (as a SambaAccount) and it

Samba as a NT PDC
Hello, I have had Samba running for a long time now as a domain controller to win98 computers with no issues. I have started to modify to allow for the new XP machines we are having. I added CARTER$ (machine name) to the unix account. I added it with smbpasswd. I go to add itself to the domain (smbpasswd -j CHERRY_HILL) and I get this error: No password server list given in smb.conf - unable

emergency- machines kicked off network after PDC 2.2.8->3.0.0 upgrade
After upgrading our PDC to 3.0.0 last night(and confirming logins worked properly)...this morning, we had two machines report errors says the machine account does not exist or has been changed. Last night, users- even ones who had not been on that particular workstation before- were able to login on at least 6 out of 30-40 workstations. All configuration files were moved over, including the

samba PDC/NIS client
I have a server which is a samba PDC and has recently been converted to an NIS client. For historic reasons, many users login information is in the local machine's /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow files. samba is set up to use a tdbsam database. I got the first indication of problems when I tried to add a user using the smbpasswd -a command. I found that smbpasswd would not recognize the user
