Unable to join Win client to domain (user not found error)
Hello, I'm having some difficulty trying to join a WinXP client to our Samba domain. When I try to join the client to the domain and I submit the computer name and the domain name in the computer identification control panel, I'm prompted for the root user and password on the server, so I enter root and the root password on our Samba server. I then get a message saying that it

can't contact domain
Hello everyone, Once again I'm trying to set up our Samba server to operate as a PDC, now that I've verified that I have a clean install of the Samba 3 software. However there are some difficulties with this. On my client machine when I try to set the domain name in the system control panel, I get an error message saying that the domain could not be contacted. I've set up my

domain/WINS problem
Hello, Concerning my problem with not being able to connect to our domain with our Samba clients, there is a further piece of evidence in my samba.log, and I'm hoping that someone who is more experienced in dealing with WINS and domains can clarify the nature of these messages from the log: sync_with_dmb: Initiating sync with domain master browser PLEIADES<20> at IP

OK, one more time on the PDC thing
My apologies, I'm terribly sorry to belabor these PDC issues to the point where everyone is undoubtedly tired of hearing about them, but I have become absolutely obsessed with trying to solve this PDC problem. Here is what is happening now. I'm trying to connect to the Samba server which is set up as the PDC (domain PLAB) from windows client "venus". Windows prompts me to

Windows XP domain logons with Samba as PDC - trust relationship problems
Hi all, I have setup Samba 2.2.3a on Mandrake 8.2 and have domain logons for my Windows 2000 Pro box working perfectly (although I've had to move the profile path to inside each user's home directory to avoid "Access is Denied" errors during logon - suggestions welcome!). Whenever I try to join with one of my XP boxen though, the domain joining stage works up until it comes

Domain logons working
I finally got the Domain logons working. I've even got a logon script happening. It's a pretty simple one: net use n: \\server\share (I've tried to start out slow) I have a x86 RH61 with 2.06. I'm working up towards roaming profiles. I have a few questions? Before I added the "logon drive = M:", it kept putting the home directory in Z: Does adding the [homes]

Windows PDC vs BDC placement; who takes care of the bulk of domain logons?
Hey all, might be a tad bit off topic to samba, but not entirely unlrelated. Anyhow, as I understand it, the task of a BDC is to process most if not all of the domain logons before a PDC does so is it not? It has been my understanding that the BDC generally accepts and processes domain logons before the PDC does on a network to keep the load down on the PDC until such time as the BDC cannot

Novell client caused Domain Logons to crash NT
I am trying to get domains logons going for and NT network. Samba is running fine, and the NT station I have started with joined the domain without any issues - except of course that I can't log on to the server. When I change the logons to the domain rather that the workstation in the IntranetWare logon client, it crashes the NT box (blue screen, winlogon.exe fatal error, etc.). Has anyone

Sharing passwords for Win95 domain logons
Greetings, Could someone please tell me if SAMBA, when used as a domain logon server, can use the existing UNIX user accounts (i.e. /etc/passwd), or the only way to make win95 domain logons work is by the method described in DOMAIN.txt (i.e. MUST use profiles on the server)? Unfortunately, I don't know enough about the win95/NT logon methodolgy/concept and I am wondering whether enabling

PDC/BDC && "domain logons = yes"
Hello, I ran into a problem the other day where our NT PDC and BDCs starting flaking out. They all thought that there was another PDC on the network and so would not promote. After several hours of fighting with the NT servers, we checked a change that had been made to our smb.conf on our fileserver. Namely, the addition of "domain logons = yes". My understanding was that this

Slow domain logons with samba PDC
Hi all, I'm using samba 3.4.7 on a debian stable with kernel version 2.6.26-2 smp running on a P4 3.0Ghz with 1Go memory. There are about 50 users in the domain, all worked fine til i upgrade from samba 3.0.14 to samba 3.2.5 from the stable debian repository and then to samba 3.4.7 from the lenny-backports rep, as i've already seen slow logon with the samba 3.2.5. here is the result
