SMB Help
Hi All, I'm trying to configure a Samba PDC, and for some reason I can not get any windows PC to join the domain, however they can see the shares. Strange thing is that under Webmin I can not see root as a smb user and when I try a smbpasswd -a root I can enter the password, but it still wont add a smb user. Samba version 3.5.4-0.70.el5_6.1 smb.conf below TIA Chris [global] ;Genreic

root != admin domain user?
Hi all, Samba has been running as PDC for some months in a row w/o no issues so far. Users and machines were created and added to the domain correctly... Now I'm facing the following problem... I hope it's easy to solve... Although machines have been added to the domain using the root user, and it's mapped to Administrator in /etc/samba/smbusers, when a situation like connecting

Windows printer status update fails
Dear samba admins, I have a samba/cups related problem. I am running SuSE 10.1 with cups 1.1.23 and samba 3.0.22. The problem is, that my windows printer status boxes don't reflect the samba printer queues. My test scenario: - I use "printing = SYSV" because I need to use "print command", too. - I installed a new printer named "test", called cupsaddsmb test. -

W2k domain join fails Samba 3 pdc
I cannot join any windows clients to my samba 3 pdc. I am seeing these logs in my samba log.machinename when I am attempting to join it to the domain. I am using an OpenLDAP backend hosted on the pdc. I can su, or ssh into the pdc with ldap only accounts without problem. Joining Domain Problem only with XP SP2
I've having trouble getting XP SP2's to join a domain. Whenever I try to join, at the point I'm asked for a user name and password with permission to join the domain, I enter root and root's password, then get the dreaded "Unknown user or bad password" error message. The clients are a mixed bunch with some 98's, 1 Win2K, a few XP SP1 (I know, I know!, but

Re: PDC with roaming profiels
Hi All, Hopefully someone knows the answer to this? I have a RH 7.3 box running Samba 2.3a as a PDC for over 1 1/2 years now. Things are good for the most part, except some minor annoyances with the way windows (2k) is handling the roaming profiles. Maybe I need to alter the permissions for the users profile, any insight would be wonderful though. The profiles copied to the local box under

I though it was that the server was unreachable, but I can ping the server from the computer and viceversa. If someone please can help me, I'll appreciate it. explorer.exe crashing at login
We're running a network of Windows 2000 SP3 machines with Samba 2.2.7 as the PDC and roaming profile store. Certain users logging onto certain machines will see an error dialogue pop-up saying explorer.exe has generated errors and will exit. This keeps popping up and to only course of action is to ctrl-alt-del and logout. For most people, everything works fine. I've been able to

How to use local profiles in samba PDC?
How do you enable local profile creation on machines connected to a samba PDC? I thought it would be automatic, but it doesn't seem to be. If there isn't a roving profile, windows complains it can't find your profile on the server, then instead of creating a local one, it throws up this message: "Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary

directory vs. file delete permissions
I have an [apps] share that was intended to be read-only (to keep viruses away) however some Windows programs require rw access to specific files. I don't want to open-up everything on the share to rw, only those specific files/directories that need 'w' access. Here's the dilemma: In order for users to be able to change a file, the file and directory it's in need to have rw

only ROOT user?
Hi all. I am a total newbie at Samba. I am running Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper) and have Samba 3.022 installed. I am trying to set it up as a Domain controller (to be a domain server that Windows machines can log into). So far, I can get it to do this, but only with the ROOT account. Any other account and it tells me that the user/password is incorrect or invalid. Below is my smb.conf file. In the

unix sync problem
Hi Samba Folks, When I comment out the following line unix password sync = yes from my smb.conf. I get the following error: Error: the 'passwd program' (/usr/bin/passwd %u) requires a '%u' parameter. When I comment the above line, I get no error, although passwd program /usr/bin/passwd %u exists in the smb.conf. My smb.conf is as follows: #/etc/samba/smb.conf #Samba
