Winbind Troubles... string_to_sid: Sid S-0-0 is not in a valid format.
Hello! I posted before, figured I'd try again and provide more information in the original post. I'm running samba-3.0.22-1.fc5, joined to a W2K3 domain. All features appear to work - I've been running it this way for a month. This message appears not to actually affect anything, and it occurs every 30 seconds or so. I'll be happy to post my configs, if necessary. This set

Sid S-0-0 is not in a valid format
Hi all, I'm trying to get winbind going on a different PC to the one I've already got working, but I can't figure out why winbind won't work on this other PC. It mostly works (wbinfo works, net ads testjoin reports OK) but "getent passwd" doesn't return anything. The winbind log reports this: [2006/01/17 15:27:15, 1] nsswitch/winbindd.c:main(976) winbindd

string_to_sid: Sid MYDOMAIN\mygroup does not start with 'S-'.
I've been struggling for almost 2 weeks to get Samba working on two new servers. When I try to open a Samba share from a Windows 2003 computer, I always get a logon challenge. I always get the following lot message [2008/11/13 16:05:06, 3] lib/util_sid.c:string_to_sid(228) string_to_sid: Sid MYDOMAIN\mygroup does not start with 'S-'. [2008/11/13 16:05:06, 2]

I'm running Winbind 3.0.33 with FreeRadius for windows authentication. Has anyone found a solution to these error messages in the samba.log? string_to_sid: SID <username> is not in a valid format
I'm not quite sure why this is happening, I used to be able to connect perfectly fine to my share. Then I updated and rebooted and now I'm greeted with this message, and a login prompt where my credentials are never accepted. W2K3 Domain - Can't Connect to Share?
I have a linux box, Samba 3.0.23a, that is joined to a W2K3 domain. I cannot connect to the "MP3s" share (all legal!) on this system - I can connect to home directories and printers. When I try to connect to MP3s as any user on the domain, I get an Access is denied message, or it prompts me for the username and password again. I am using Winbind (if that matters), so none of these

string_to_sid: SID .... is not in a valid format - Any clue?
Hi, I do get a lot of „string_to_sid: SID .... is not in a valid format“ in our samba 4.6.x Logs. What might be wrong or what might I check. Users can login to the domain and we don’t see any problem on the user / client side … Thanks for suggestion and hints . Regards . Götz

smbd does not run from inetd
Hello, I've a problem with Samba version 2.0.6, where smbd does not start from inetd. nmbd starts from inetd and "smbd -D" works fine as well. And I didn't have that problem with 2.0.4b. The following is an extraction of the smb.log, which shows an "read_socket_data: recv failure for 4. Error = Invalid argument" error. Regarding this problem, what is the difference

domain/unix groups and valid users parameter
Hi, I want to switch from 'security = server' to 'security = ADS'. Kerberos is working and I can login to the server. With Samba 3.0.22 I was able to restrict access to shares with the 'valid users' directive. ve is local unix group. valid users = +ve And force the group ownership with the 'force group' directive. force group = +ve [foo] comment = foo

Sometimes users can't connect to the samba shares
Hello, Hope you can help us out with a problem with samba / winbind; We have samba 3.0.21c with winbind running on an RHEL 4 server. This runs quite stable for more than a year now. But since the lasts weeks it appears that sometimes our users can't connect to the samba shares. I suspect that this problem has something to do with the integration of samba (winbind) with the Microsoft

Using +<group> in "valid users" is not working
Hello to all, I have recently upgraded to SAMBA 3.4.2 on Solaris 10, and reconfigured it to use domain authentication (security = domain). We slapped guest authentication on most shares, with an explicit "valid users = ...." on a small number of sensitive shares. Due to the number of users we were looking at, we set up two UNIX groups "payroll" and "payoff" and

3.0.23 and group behavior
Okay, first the admisssions: I'll admit that I haven't been following the development as closely as I probably should have. And I'll admit in this case I might not be using Samba in the most efficient way possible. Also, I'm not 100% sure if I'm encountering a bug or just a seriously stupid misconfiguration issue. And I'm still collecting data on exactly what happened.

Pam [default=bad success=ok user_unknown=ignore], Winbind
Winbind has been working great for domain logons (have to restart it every few weeks, but other than that, works great!), but today I noticed I couldn't log in as a local user. For instance, if my local user was test, and I tried to log in, I'd get this in /var/log/messages: Aug 22 12:14:00 mgprisvr pam_winbind[8346]: request failed, but PAM error 0! AD Groups Failing to Authorize in Valid Users (does not start with S-)
For the last 3 weeks I've been working on getting RHEL4 (and 5, but that's a different story) to play well with Active Directory, OpenLDAP, Kerberos, PAM and NSS. It's been a long struggle but I now have a process to authenticate and authorize a RHEL4 client to a windows Active Directory server to that my AD Users can log into my Linux boxes (assuming their group permissions are set
