Wine-20040505 and vstserver
Hi list, I'm currently trying to get an app running called "vstserver" on Fedora Core 3. I have installed wine-20040505 and wine-devel-20040505, and installed those older versions, cause it is recommended not to use the newest wine version in the README. I have found that most vstserver-users had good experiences with version 20040505 of wine. I have tried others too, i always get

Explaining Survival difference between Stata and R
Dear Everybody: I'm doing my usual "how does that work in R" thing with some Stata projects. I find a gross gap between the Stata and R in Cox PH models, and I hope you can give me some pointers about what goes wrong. I'm getting signals from R/Survival that the model just can't be estimated, but Stata spits out numbers just fine. I wonder if I should specify initial

Patents on algorithms harm data analytic services
Cologne, 10.12.00 Dear Sir, Dear Madam, We are concerned about the possibility that the European Commission might introduce software patenting into the European Community because we think this will harm our profession. We make our living on data management and statistical analyses. Modern statistics crucially depends on algorithms [cf. Venables, W. N., & Ripley, B. D. (1999). Modern applied

W2K Workstation not reading NTConfig.pol
I have recently set up an small SAMBA network(just my server and a W2K SP4 Workstation). My Server is acting as a PDC. Everything seems to work flawlessly, users, roaming profiles, netlogon script, etc... But I cannot make this machine to read my NTConfig.pol file. I have it at my NETLOGON share [/srv/netlogon] with rwxr-xr-x permissions. I have tried with different filenames (NTConfig.POL,

Your opinion about RHCSA certification
Hello to all, I'm currently studying (and collecting notes here https://github.com/fdicarlo/RHCSA_cs) for RHCSA. My plan is to RHCSA -> RHCE and then RHCSS. What I want to ask you is: - What do you think about it? - Did you find it useful? - Do you have any advices? Best regards, Fabrizio -- "The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have

image versus levelplot
Dear R users, I'm currently using the Graphics package to display several hundred of matrix objects, using a layout and the image() function. It works well except for large matrices (> 1000*1000) or for a large number of matrices (there is a limitation around 400 if I remember well) To solve these issues, I move to the Matrix package which is much more efficient for large sparse matrix,

point.in.polygon() in sp package: accuracy problems?
Dear list: I encountered some problems using the function point.in.polygon() of the sp package, when trying to determine whether some points lye inside, outside, on the border or on a vertice of a polygon. I have a list of point I know should lye right on the border of a polygon, but some of them are not classified as such by point.in.polygon() (see the example code below). To make a long story

Possible bug in foreign library import of Stata datasets
Concerning this article, Christopher Zorn, "Generalized Estimating Equation Models for Correlated Data: A Review with Applications." 2001. American Journal of Political Science 45(April):470-90. The author very kindly provides data for replication on his web page: http://www.emory.edu/POLS/zorn/Data/GEE.zip. I've been comparing the Professor Zorn's results obtained with

"Unable to fit" error message from the lrm function in the rms library
Hi all, I have another question about the lrm function (from the rms library) that I cannot find the answer to. I get an error message when I try to fit a model, and I don't know what to make of it. Please forgive me for not having a toy example, but it appears the size and complexity of my data is somehow causing the error. The best I can do is show you what I type and what errors I get.

megatec_usb subdrivers for PowerMust 600 USB?
Hi! Are there any subdriver to get PowerMust 600 work with megatec_usb already? I've tried with agile, but that dosen't work. My only way is to use the RS-232 cable and a COM port, but the problem is that I have only one, and a remote control was plugged there jejeje. If someone needs a "Guinea pig", I don't mind (I have the UPS working with the RS-232...) Thanks!

Re: [S] Labels wrong with lrm
Dear Jan, Thank you very much for your excellent description of the problem and the self-contained test code. This is a problem that I've been meaning to either document better or solve for some time. The root of the problem is with the builtin S-Plus terms.inner function: > attr(terms.inner(asthma ~ pol(age,kx) + smok),'variables') expression(age, kx, smok) You can see that
