smbstatus, SWAT, etc. not displaying NetBIOS name for XP SP2 machines
I'm trying to see what computer is accessing certain files through samba, and the SWAT status page is a useful tool for that. Problem is that for some computers, only the IP address shows, not the NetBIOS name. This is only a problem with certain computers. Since we're using DHCP on many computers I don't always know off the top of my head what computer has any given IP

What is the meaning of the output from smbstatus?
Hello, If I use Samba as a PDC, what does the output from "smbstatus" mean? Will all logged in users be displayed at all times when I do "smbstatus -b"? The reason I ask is that users who are logged in occasionally disappear from the output of smbstatus, even though they are still logged in. Is this to be expected? regards, David

smbstatus parsing (XML output)
Hey all, I'm preparing to start development of a new version of 'smbstatus' that produces XML output, instead of the tabular data it currently produces. This follows an attempt to parse the output of the current 'smbstatus' ( 3.0.22) using grep and a few other shell tools, from a system call in PHP, and then further RegEx parsing to create a multidimensional array of the

Revised smb-wall (Was: smbclient -M --> ERRmsgoff?)
I've gotten smb-wall to work with Samba v3. If there's a better way, please let me know. If not, what's the chances this could be included in a future release? #!/usr/bin/perl # #@(#) smb-wall.pl Description: #@(#) A perl script which allows you to announce whatever you choose to #@(#) every PC client currently connected to a Samba Server... #@(#) ...using "smbclient -M"

Wrong output from smbstatus
Currently I'm running Samba 1.9.18p3 on a production server. Smbstatus gives wrong information about locked files. For a client, still connected but closed the program, smbstatus still displays the locked files. Is there a solution or parameter I missed ? I think I read it somewhere in a digest but can't find it anymore. Can anyone direct me to the digest or know the problem ? I didn't

hostname is missing in the output from "smbstatus -b"
Hello dear group, we have migrated our Samba server from version 3.6 to Samba 4.6. Everyting is working fine, but I have seen one difference in the output from "smbstatus -b". The hostname in the output is no longer displayed (see examples below) 1) The hostname must come from Session setup or similar, because we don't have any name resolution for clients. 2) The hostname from

Binary filenames in smbstatus output? (Samba 2.2.5)
Have any of you seen behavior like this before? We are currently having problems with our Samba server coming up telling a lot of our users that Word files "are locked for editing." and will only let users open them Read Only. We are running Samba 2.2.5 from standard RedHat 7.2 RPMS, on i386 RedHat 7.2, Kernel 2.4.9-34smp. Im putting this to the list as a symptom to see if anyone has

IPs in smbstatus
Louis, Please find the o/p below. Have a question, I read somewhere that using hostname lookups = yes in smb.conf helps with this. Is that correct? We followed the samba wiki to setup the DNS. Hostname: winad01 DNS Domain: addom.com FQDN: winad01.addom.com ipaddress: 10.10.10.10 ----------- Samba is running as an AD DC ----------- Checking file: /etc/os-release

Workstations are ( almost completely ) W2K. I have already included, deleted and changed new users. I had

smbstatus - switched off computers are sometimes showed
I have a Samba server configured as PDC for ~100 computers. It's version 3.0.24 running on Debian Etch (distribution package). I want to write a tool for user logon/logoff tracking. Because parsing log files is hard job (windows frequently disconnets or connects during user session or etc.) I decide to use smbstatus output which seem to be reliable. So I run smbstatus binary every 10

Samba 3 smbstatus not as good
I use a lot of "force user" and "force group" directives on various shares. With smbstatus of Samba 2 I could always verify with a glance what uid and gid a particular service is being accessed as, with Samba 3 you can't. I'd REALLY like to see that come back to smbstatus. Here's a real world example of my complaint... Samba 2 smbstatus output... Samba version
