AD bind DNS broken after 4.7.3 -> 4.9.2 upgrade
Hi,
I have been running a Samba AD PDC with BIND9_DLZ on a Debian system for
a year now without problems, and in the hope for ability to create AD
backups I upgraded the samba packages (along with other packages with
minor updates).
Everything seemed OK during the upgrade, all processes restarted, but
soon after I found that PAM refuses to authenticate AD usernames. By
checking the samba

Winbind deadlock with AD and nss
Hi,
I'm testing out Samba 3.0.25c with Active Directory using the rid
idmap backend. In certain cases there seems to be a repeatable
deadlock in winbind.
I have a local user "ed" created with uid 100 and no user exists with
uid 1001. Here's the behavior I'm seeing with wbinfo:
# time wbinfo -U 100
S-1-22-1-100
real 0m0.047s
user 0m0.014s

I can't access Linux shared folder from Windows XP.
Hi
I would be grateful if somebody would tell me why can't I access
shared folder on Ubuntu 5.04 computer (computer name is
my-computer) from my Windows XP computer (its name is tablet-pc). I am
using Samba 3.0.10-Ubuntu. I see this folder in Windows XP but when I
try to access it I get error "\\My-computer\backup is not accessible.

Able to Mount home, but getting failure errors in logs
Hi,
I have a few users that are creating errors like below. These users have mapped
a directory via Samba and also have it connected. They can access their home
directory or other directory via Samba fine, but it is strange that every hour
on the hour there is a failure put into the log (even though they are working).
My server is joined to the Domain and it is using

Service Winbind stopped, what could be the reason ?
Hello,
Thank you Rowland,
Yes, I wanted to anonymize smb.conf and missed to change IPGAD in MYAD on some lines, sorry
Does "winbind nss info = rfc2307" is not used anymore, because of "idmap config ipgad : schema_mode = rfc2307" ?
Best Regards,
Ed

Slow Samba
I am running a Snap 4200 fileserver, which is a network appliance that
uses Samba to share files on a windows network.
I've been experiencing slow performance on the Snap. The issue started
suddenly 5 to 6 weeks ago, so I don't think it's a performance-related
problem. I SSHed into the unit and noticed some odd errors in the samba
event logs. They look something like this:

samba-tool - password
Hello
When I run following command on my samba DC:
sudo samba-tool dns serverinfo localhost (or other DC on same domain)
samba-tool asks for:
Password for [MyAD-DomainName\root]:
But there is no root user at the domain.
Domain Administrator name at mu domain is "admin".
If I enter admin's password for Password for [MyAD-DomainName\root]:

samba & unix group permissions problems
Hi,
I'm having permissions problems connecting to a share when the gid of
the directory shared is not the primary group of the user connecting to it.
Maybe I faced it the wrong way, but I did read (and at least thought I
understood) the 'File, directory and share access controls' section of
the howto [0].
My users have either one or another 'primary group' (the one set in

Active directory and trusted domains
I setup Samba a while ago in an active directory environment.
There are many trusted domains (with a very lot lot of users and computer
account), but i (my users) used only one, and all worked just fine
Actually, some from others domains needs to connect to my shares. And even
if i do not setupe any users, they cannot.
So here are some few questions :
I've this in my winbindd log file :

samba-tool - password
Sorry about my pretty stupid question :-(
I should have been dug a bit deeper...
And I actually discoverer the -U parameter shortly after sending the
mail to the list. But I didn't know how to cancel it...
Sorry about that...

samba_dnsupdate?
Now for the next question. I think (hope?) that I am quite close now.
In order to add a machine to the domain, I think that I need to add a record to
samba's DNS table. But samba_dnsupdate isn't working:

Understanding NT Groups and UNIX Permissions with Samba Shares
Hello, I am having some problems understanding a few concepts in Samba while
trying to use samba-common-3.0.0-14.3E, samba-client-3.0.0-14.3E and
samba-3.0.0-14.3E on RHE 3.0.
Basically, I have security = domain. My system is running winbind, I've
added the winbind calls to nsswitch.conf. I can get my wbinfo -u and wbinfo
-g commands to show me what I want. That all seems happy.
I have a

smbd/service.c:set_current_service(56) chdir (/var/ghost) failed
Hey Gang,
I have a suse 8.1 server that I have compiled samba 3.0.2 from source on.
I have it configured to authenticate against our AD. That seems to be
working fine.
getent passwd produces the results from both passwd and AD. getent group
gives me the groups + the AD groups. I was able to assign the permissions
to the folder without problems. It picked up the group from AD and
assigned it
