Factor to numeric conversion - as.numeric(levels(f))[f] - Language definition seems to say to not use this.
Note the edited subject line! I don't know why I typed it as it was before.
This says that as.numeric(as.character(f)) will work regardless of the
implementation, and I agree.
It's the recommendation to use as.numeric(levels(f))[f] that has me
wondering about section 2.3.1 of the language definition. I expect that
this idiom is in widespread use, and perhaps the language definition

HELP: ServerWorks data corruption after 350 MB with BerkeleyDB 4.0?
Hi,
I received a bug report against BerkeleyDB 4 that may not be BerkeleyDB
related, but a problem with FreeBSD or specific hardware in general.
Jie Song (CC'd) reported that writing files with BerkeleyDB (no
threading or something) on his ServerWorks machine causes data
corruption (detected by BerkeleyDB 4.0 library functions) when the file
sizes grow beyond 350 MB. For details, see PR

Linking against a specific Berkeley DB install
I sent this question to the OpenLDAP list yesterday, but I still haven't
seen the message come across the list. I am asking here in the hopes of
getting a faster response.
I am trying to compile OpenLDAP 2.3.11 from source on CentOS4. I have the
rpm for db4-4.2.52-7.1 installed and also a source build of BerkeleyDB in
/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.4.
How do I get OpenLDAP to link with the bdb

Problems migrating from WBEL
Hi folks:
I've recently migrated one of my production servers (bad Jason!) from
WBEL to CentOS 3.3 using Donavan's instructions in the FAQ
(http://www.centos.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=19). While it
was as painless as the document suggests, I've run into problems with
postgrey (a postfix greylisting daemon) on my server. Whenever I try
to start postgrey, I get the

Build LLVM on RedHat 7
Hi All,
I wonder if there is a procedure to build "official" RPMs for LLVM & Clang ?
I provide tools to dev teams and they would like to have recent versions of Clang on Red Hat7 boxes.
The one they currently use is the EPEL one: v3.4.2
Many thanks in advance for your help,
Jean

Need help to install dovecot on solaris 10 with openldap libs
Hi,
I install dovecot with ldap support at Solaris 10 (x86). I know that solaris LDAP is broken and so I install openldap. OpenLDAP shared libraries are at /usr/local/lib and /usr/local/include. While installing dovecot, I did the followings:
I execute this before run "./configure --with-ldap"
LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.2/lib -R/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.4.2/lib

Bitcoin for CentOS 7
For those interested I have a working spec file for Bitcoin 0.12.0
https://github.com/AliceWonderMiscreations/bitcoin/blob/master/contrib/rpm/bitcoin.spec
I believe the only BuildRequires that isn't in CentOS/EPEL is
miniupnpc-devel but that's trivial to build as well.
With Bitcoin 0.12.0 the ECC stuff that Red Hat ripped out of OpenSSL
doesn't matter anymore.

Official Samba binaries for Solaris 9 are not enabled for ADS

the crazy Solaris 9 build environment.

DB for blacklisting thought
Hello all,
I''m new to the list. But have been using Shorewall on and off for
over a year now. The one thing that got me hooked on staying with
Shorewall, was the extensive and useful documentation.
Great Job!
I see also that over use of blacklisting is time consuming for restarts,
refresh and it also means the kernel spends more time checking incoming
packets.

Trying to join a Solaris 8 box to Windows 2000 AD.
I am having major problems with SAMBA samba-3.0alpha20 in trying to connect

would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I can get samba-3.0alpha20 working if I include reference to our NT PDC
in the smb.conf file and do a net rpc join command.
This joins our NT PDC domain which has a trust
