windows 7 roaming profiles
Hi Samba4 DC and win 7 clients. The user profiles are stored in a profiles share: [profiles] path = /home/CACTUS/profiles read only = No This works OK and the user can logon to different boxes with the same profile. The profile folders such as Desktop, Downloads etc. however, also appear stored on the local disk under c:\users\username. Any file saved e.g. on the Desktop, is not

test49 "killed with signal 6" errors...
I upgraded yesterday from 1.0test46 to 1.0test49 in an attempt to eliminate an error that a couple of my users were getting. Both users were using Thunderbird 0.6 over imaps, and were getting errors that said: "The current command didn't succeed. The mail server responded: Error in IMAP command UID: Invalid Body [..] Parameter: Missing '>'in'<14336-13057>'.

How to use local profiles in samba PDC?
How do you enable local profile creation on machines connected to a samba PDC? I thought it would be automatic, but it doesn't seem to be. If there isn't a roving profile, windows complains it can't find your profile on the server, then instead of creating a local one, it throws up this message: "Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary

Documentation clarification re: SLES9 and nsswitch
Hello, I've been unable to succeed with Samba-Ldap setup on SLES9 until this evening. I thought I had a PAM issue but that was not the case. To cut to the chase, I ran Yast's 'ldap-server' module without any changes as it found the ldap server settings. Once finished I could join the domain from XP Pro which is what I was unable to do. I checked what Yast did and it reset

In samba documentation in : http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/PolicyMgmt.html There is references to apply policies in NT/2000 Server and winxp clients, but it's not clear to me that will run fine or not using samba 3.2.3+winxp machines. Windows share "bridge"
Hi, I'm currently working on something quite ugly. We have a WindowsXP Home system here that is used as a storage server. Windows XP Home restricts the maximal user count to 5 users at a time that can connect to the network share. My boss doesn't want to delete winblows because he feels confident with it (except from the limitation) so a native samba server isn't possible. A

Domain Administrator problems
Hi All, I have a tdbsam backend on Samba PDC and am trying to set a user up as a domain admin. I read that instead of the old admin users line in smb.conf you now use net groupmap to map unix groups to NT groups. I have a user called toni in unix group admins and have run: net groupmap add rid=512 ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=admins running: net groupmap list gives: Domain

issues with folder redirection and synchronisation
I have a samba/ldap PDC with a netlogon share and a samba member server (called sirius) with Profiles and homes shares (samba 3.0.14). Each user in the LDAP database has its sambaHomeDrive attribute set to "H:". I'm trying to follow http://samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html#redirfold to configure my XP Pro client. It seems that I'm unable to have "folder

Samba as PDC with WinXP Clients -> headache!!
Hi. my last post was about upscale configuration for my WinXP clients, because I believed I had it working, but ... Next day I booted the client and .... it wouldnt let me log onto the domain again. :-( I am using Samba 2.2.8a with Ldap backend which works great in workgroup mode. Joining the domain is very easy and works well, but then after rebooting I get: "Es kann keine

windows shortcut for "Group Policy Editor"
Hey all, according to the whitepaper http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc736591%28v=ws.10%29.aspx I would like to a windows shortcut on the desktop that allows me to open and run the "Group Policy Editor" *for my samba4/AD domain*. Should I upgrade Samba 3.6 to Samba 4.1
Hi, I just installed Samba on my Centos 6.4 computer. Smbstatus says my version is 3.6.9-151.el6-4.1. My smb.conf file only has a [global] and [homes] section. My configuration works, as expected, from a Win7 Virtual Box computer and a Win8 Virtual Box computer. I can see the share from the Windows file explorer and can map the share to a network drive. The Samba server is not virtual.

Exporting local policies on several computers
Hello everyone, Not really a Samba problem, but I hope someone can help me : I am doing some tests for integrating XP clients on Samba 3.02 with LDAP backend. Duplicate Icons on Desktop after Upgrade
Hi, I'm recently upgraded to samba-3.0.23d from 3.0.21 on an OpenBSD 4.0 server. I'm using folder redirection to redirect the Application Data, Desktop, My Documents, and Favorites folders off to /profiles/username on the server. Two users now have duplicate file icons on their desktops. For example, if there is a file named test.doc in the /profiles/username/Desktop directory on
