smpasswd and ldap ...
Another question ...
When using the LDAP SAM, should smpasswd change the POSIX

smbpasswd, I see that the POSIX password does not change,
but I throught that it should ... is there something wrong
with my installation ... another reason I ask, is because I

Reading MySQL rows
Hi there,
I?m having difficulties reading the content of some rows in my database.
Tried to use some of the code at page 221 in the pickaxe, but didn?t
make it work.
The SQL query works fine directly against the database.
mysql> select id, count, company from users where name = "martin";

3.0.22-solaris10 - Please help !
Hi !!
I have already sent this message to the list, but, as I have not
received
any replies, I am trying again !!
I have Samba 3.0.22 running as PDC on solaris10.
Each time a windows client (XP SP2 or W2003) opens an explorer to access
a share, I see in the log.smbd :
[2006/06/15 01:28:08, 0] lib/util_sock.c:get_peer_addr(1225)
getpeername failed. Error was Invalid argument

v1.1.alpha3 released
http://dovecot.org/releases/1.1/alpha/dovecot-1.1.alpha3.tar.gz
http://dovecot.org/releases/1.1/alpha/dovecot-1.1.alpha3.tar.gz.sig
All kinds of fixes and API changes. Previous alphas had some problems
with index handling, now I didn't get any errors after almost 24h of
stress testing.
As a new feature userdb passwd now supports overriding some fields with
templates.

Sama + Windows Shadow Copies
Hello,
i installed zfs-auto-snapshot with Samba/Windows Shadow Copy. If the
share contains "path = /srv/userdata/" it runs for me. But if I use
"path = /srv/userdata/%U" I get no "Previous Versions" on my Win10 Client.
I think the problem is the variable "shadow: snapdir = .zfs/snapshot". I
tried with "shadow: snapdir = ../.zfs/snapshot" and

Samab and init.d
Is it better to start Samba using in initd, or to use the script, much like
the one provided by SuSE. ?? so far I have used the script, but I don't
like the fact of having to start samba manually. I would much prefer to
see it run as a service. just to confirm all it really involves is starting

CYGWIN Rsync exclude/include problem
I'm having troubles with getting rsync 2.5.5 (CYGWIN version) to include/exclude files they way I expect it to. I have mulled over the list postings and man pages regarding this and I am either missing something or ... well I don' know.
I have a drive with 12 folders in the root however, I only want to rsync 5 of them (the ones marked with an *) and in those 4 I want to exclude certain

PHP MySQL and R
Hello everyone, this is my first post. Nice to meet all of you. I am
having some troubles using R in combination with PHP and MySQL. I
would appreciate any assistance very much! This is kind of long, so if
you'd like a shorter version let me know.
I am working on a project that takes a list of points (inputted via the
web, and stored into a MySQL DB), and runs an R script on them.

Samab 3.0.6 problems
Running on a Debian server, 3.0r Sid, 2.4.18 kernel.
I recently did an apt-get upgrade which upgraded samba from 3.0.5 to 3.0.6
After this upgrade, access to all shares for all users slowed to a crawl.
It was possible to browse the folders, to 3-4 folders deep but then
Explorer would freeze on the client.Opening files failed. Copying files
locally resulted in corrupt files.

Centos 7 AD domain provision won't create named.conf
Hi guys.
I'm preparing my migration from samab NT4 style to AD.
I had follow some papers about, exist 1 step that I still don't if is right
or don't.
A lot of site show that once we run the command:
samba-tool domain provision ...
using BIND9_DLZ
This step will create a named.conf inside ./private/named.conf
I have run a lot of times the command, but won't see this file.

Roaming Profiles Configuration
Hello all! I am new to the mailing lists, as well as Samba. I was looking
for an Active Directory alternative for linux, and finally landed on Samba4.
My installation is alpha12, installed via apt on Ubuntu 10.10. I am trying
to create roaming profiles, however, if "path = /UserData" then the profiles
are viewable from every user account by simple accessing "

ccomp Composition and ggtern plot...
Dear Users,
I would like to use compositions package with ggplot/ggtern, other composition classes of compositional package can be used with ggtern by converting to data frame but I could do anything with c(ount)comp class. Ggplot/ggtern can not recognise comp and also can not be converted to data frame. Is there any other way to do this?
Thank you in advance,
Levent TERLEMEZ.

NTP and FreeBSD jails
FreeBSD-12.1p7
Samab-4.10.15 running in FreeBSD Jail
I just wish to ensure that my conclusion respecting Samba, FreeBSD Jails, and
NTP is correct.
1. Unless configured otherwise Windows domain clients will query and obtain
their time from the samba_server DC.
2. Samba_server obtains its time from the OS, in this case a FreeBSD Jail.
3. FreeBSD Jails get their time from their host.

printing problem
I'm testing a printserver with Samab/ Cups.
Every time I want to upload the driver to samba for printing I get the following error:
"Printer settings could not be saves. Access denied"
I chmod 777 the driver directory and spool directory.
I gave specified the user as printer admin in the share.
My firewall is disabled.
Why is it still giving me the access denied error?

Performance tips for heavily loaded servers
Does nayone have a collection of performance tips for heavily loaded
samba servers?
I have a server that routinely has 45-90 connections and just runs really
poorly. We've thrown more memory at it w/ some benefit, but not
significant.
This is on a linux 2.0.35 based machine.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

6Tb Database with ZFS
Hello,
Im about to migrate a 6Tb database from Veritas Volume Manager to ZFS, I
want to set arc_max parameter so ZFS cant use all my system''s memory, but i
dont know how much i should set, do you think 24Gb will be enough for a 6Tb
database? obviously the more the better but i cant set too much memory.
Have someone implemented succesfully something similar?
We ran some test and the
