DoveCot 1.0a3 hangs at login
I've just upgraded to 1.0a3 via a freebsd port, and I've begun to
notice odd behaviour from Dovecot. After converting my config file
settings over to the new format, everything runs fine for an hour or
so, then dovecot stops responding:
oot at toejamfootball# telnet localhost 143
Trying ::1...
telnet: connect to address ::1: Connection refused
Trying 127.0.0.1...

64 Bit XP client unable to add ACE on 3.0.24 Samba Domain member server
Hi all-
I searched quite a bit and couldn't really come up with anything, so I'm
posting to the list to hopefully find out if I have any options.
I've got a production FC6 box running 3.0.24-7.fc6 build of samba server
that's very stable for us. It's a member of an ADS domain w/ server 2003
domain controllers.
Recent 64 bit windows XP pro boxes are having the exact problem

Samba shared folders and windows 7 permissions dialog.
It is indeed an issue with Windows, rather than Samba, and I never stated otherwise.
With respect to Windows edition they all are "Pro" variant. I have a feeling, that
failing workstations lack some updates because I have manually updated successful ones
about a week ago. Comparing installed updates manually must be the last resort as it's
rate complicated feat.
Thus I started

webDAV (webclient) interferes with XP logons
Very long story short...
1. Samba server on machine running iptables or behind a firewall
2. Client XP domain logins taking 45 seconds or more.
3. The problem: webDAV (webclient) is running on the XP workstations
and this mysteriously triggers access to port 80 on the file server,
which in turn adds up to long delays.
If you are running an HTTP server and it isn't blocked then

FC5. Samba 3.0.23a Win XP Pro SP2. Cannot logon from XP to samba on Fedora
Hello,
I have just performed a yum update on my Fedora 5 machine, which I think included a samba update, and I cannot connect from WinXP to the shares defined on Fedora. When I select the samba server from WIndowsXP, a dialog box prompts for the userid and password. When userid and password are entered the dialog box just redisplays and I am not logged on, no matter how many time I try.

Xapian.org design
Hi guys
We were talking a little while ago about putting together some content
to provide more examples of operations for first-time users.
One of the other thoughts that's come up is about the design of the
Xapian site; we've a bit of spare designer capacity at work and were
wondering if we could do you a jazz-ed up site design (for free) and
wondered if this'd be something the

Relevance, weighting and searching by specifically weighted text
Hi guys
In our implementation of Xapian for one of our sites, we index the
title, subtitle, summary and table of contents of around 200,000
products on ReportBuyer.com. When we create each Xapian doc to index
this information, we apply a weighting to each of these 'fields' and add
these to the doc using index_text with the second parameter passing in a
weighting.
I've been asked if

Reducing spurious change notifications on a mounted Win XP share

64-bit RHEL4 BDC doesn't allow workstation logons
I'm trying to set up Samba on RHEL4 as a BDC for subnet 10.6.0.0/16. The
PDC is located at another site and on another network. Its IP address is
10.2.0.2. There are other BDCs on subnets 10.1.0.0/16, 10.3.0.0/16, and
10.4.0.0/16 that all function fine. This is the only one on RHEL and this
is the only one on a 64 bit box.
We are using ldapsam for the passdb. The important config lines

Xapian and Synonyms
Hi guys
I've just had a thought about something we do with our search on
ReportBuyer.com: we cater for both American and British English in our
searches and we have had plans for a while now to implement something
that allows users to find 'colour' and 'color', 'tap' and 'faucet' by
doing some clever programming.
Looking at the Xapian docs, though, it appears

Changing password from Windows 2K / XP client on samba server with different passwords on client and server
Hello all,
I've got a problem when I try to change a password from W2K or XP on a samba
2.2.5 - server. That's the situation:
The user "hugo" is logged on locally or in a domain "first" with his password
"secret". The user has shares on a secound domain, the "samba" domain, too.
The user can do a
net use M: \\samba\share

SOLVED: Roaming profiles not updating XP
I have run into the EXACT problem; I also may have the solution; I wish I could give you a technical describtion, but I can't. All I know is what worked. Go into Services in the administrative panel of Windows XP and set any service relating to nVidia to Manual startup instead of Automatic. This does not interfere in anyway with any of nVidia's functions in my experince. You can also

SIP configuration issues
Apologies if this is a repeat: I trawled through the archives and couldn't
find a reasonable answer, so I'm asking here. I have an Asterisk install
connecting from behind a NAT device (DSL modem) to a SIP proxy (in my case,
Broadvoice). I have an sjphone softphone on a Windows PC also behind the NAT
device that connects to the Asterisk install, and using this setup I've been

Puzzle -- Logon/Login from Windows XP
I hope somebody can help me with this. I posed this question a week ago and
got several well-meaning answers that were not very helpful.
I have 10 Windows XP workstations and 100 users. Each of the 100 users has an
account on my Samba server (running Samba 3.03 on Mandrake Linux 10).
Each user has several shares on the Samba server which are unique to that
user. In other words, only THAT

Windows XP Pro, file permissions...
Don't know if this issue is Windows XP specific, or whether it's Samba
that's contributing to the problem. Running Samba 3.0.3 as a PDC on a
network of 5 Windows XP Pro workstations. They have their "important" data
stored in a file share on the server, permissions set for all of them to
access no problem.
They each also have a shared documents directory on their
