Winbind + PPP
Hello,
I tried various settings to authenticate my PPP (l2tp) users via
winbind (ntlm_auth), without success... I use ppp 2.4.3 and Samba
3.0.22-2tr. My distribution is Trustix 2.2
What is working :
- mschapv2 authentication with chap-secrets (nomppe, novj, novjccomp)
- wbinfo -g, wbinfo -u, getent passwd and getent group
- net ads info and net ads status
- ntlm_auth --username X

ppp 2.4.1 pppoatm plugin. Here is a port of a previous version
Dear all
I have ported the pppoatm.c plugin for ppp version 2.3.x to the 2.4.1 ppp.
I am however having problems to decide what is the right place where to
send it.
I did look at http://www.samba.org/ppp and this seems to be the home page
for ppp
Then I did look for a mailing list the only one I have found is
majordomo@vger.kernel.org but I really don't know if that is official for ppp

Authenticating PPTP users against Samba/LDAP
Hi,
I have a few remote user who use a PPTP based VPN. The server is running
PoPToP (http://www.poptop.org/), and a pppd patched to support MPPE/MPPC
for (some) added security. Currently, users authentication information
is stored in plaintext in /etc/ppp/chap-secrets. I'd like to be able to
put users into LDAP, and have ppp authenticate either directly against
LDAP, or against Samba (with an

samba 3.2 breaks ppp winbind plugin
We have a system running fedora 8 using pptpd from the poptop yum
repository.
See http://www.poptop.org/
pptpd/pppd use the winbind plugin from the ppp package to authenticate
to Active Directory.
This works just fine.
Then I found the same setup would not work on a fedora 9 setup.
In order to exclude any possible configuration errors I built
a virtual machine and simulated an upgrade. This

[Fwd: problems with ppp]
Hi,
I installed CentOS 3.3 and kept the machine up2date.
I installed poptop and the newest ppp-cvs version (
ppp-2.4.3-0.cvs_20040527.6)
We are running a ssh + ppp tunnel for our internet tunnel/tunnel to our NOC.
After the upgrade we see these error messages while starting the tunnel:

PPP + ntlm_auth
Hello,
I'm trying to authenticate PPP (in fact l2tp...) users with Active
Directory (windows server 2003 DCs, mixed-mode domain) using winbind /

shape downstream of a ppp link
Hi,
is it anyhow possible to tell the other end of the ppp link how he should
queue the packages? I have a ppp link to my isp and would like to control
the order of packages send to me. I would like to give uucp a lower
priority than http. Is this possible? Has ppp any special features to
control such things?
Bye, Jörg.

PPP by default in zapata
Just wondering if there is a reason PPP support is compiled into zapata by
*default*:
# Uncomment for Generic PPP support (i.e. ZapRAS)
#
KFLAGS+=-DCONFIG_ZAPATA_PPP
Especially since the comments imply that it should be commented out by
default...
The main reason I ask is because I usually try to re-compile the kernel to
only include the bits that I need, and so I don't include PPP...

Accessing Samba shares via PPP links
Hello all.
I am sure that this is an FAQ but I cannot find a succinct answer anywhere.
My question is:
What is the correct way to access a Samba share when the Samba server has a
private IP adress (eg 192.168.x.y), the (Windows via PPP) client is assigned a
relevant private address (eg 192.168.x.z) and the username/password used to
login to the client is not known to the server and/or is

After the switch and bringing up the ppp interface, the new gateway was
access the Internet just fine, but none of systems behind it were.
Scratched my head, and after some fumbling, I discovered that it seems
like I have to restart shorewall after ppp interface is brought up.
So.
How do I ensure that shorewall is restarted

nmbd over ppp
hello everyone.
I don't have a network, but I'm trying to get my friend to
dialin and use my shares that I have provided via smb. Now I have a big
prob with nmbd and ppp. Under Interfaces I can specify ppp* 192.168.0.2
, which is the ip that the dialin user is assigned and yet still nmbd
shuts down showing an error that no interfaces were found.
