tdbsam (local) to ldap (tdbldap) backend migration causes pam restrictions not to work anymore?
Hi,
I am using samba 3.0.10 on Debian and have had my users in tdbsam
backend untill now.
They have had the ability to change their unix password along with
samba password and besides that I was able to apply some PAM
restrictions to the users password strength via pam_cracklib.so
library.
I have now moved the users into ldap and auth works ok, but I cannot
change users password and still have

Excel files & file modification time
Hi everyone,
I have a problem on samba running on RHEL 3 kernel 2.4.21 with RHEL 3
samba packages - samba-3.0.7-1.3E.1.
The problem is, that when people open excel files (with office 97
version of excel) the file modification time is changed (even if the
file is only opened and excel closed without saving).
This same problem does not occur on the [homes] share (in every test
untill now it never

Domain Admins don't have enough privileges
Hi everyone,
I am trying to create a couple users (not root) who would be in Domain
Admins group, and would have the permissions to add machine to domain.
I can confirm that locally (I used sudo without password) as any of
the users of ntadm group, and each and everyone of them can add a user
to the passwd file.
They are also local admins on NT/200X/XP machines when they log in on
windows side,

Samba domain member server does not see list of users from PDC
Hi,
I have some problems with the following setup:
DOM1 (PDC) -> DOM2 (PDC) <->DOM2(Member server)
The users and groups from DOM1 (MS WinNT4 domain) are nicely visible
on Samba PDC (DOM2) with established trust, but domain member server
in DOM2 domain does not show any users from the DOM1 domain (only
users from DOM2 are visible), BUT!! users from DOM1 can login to it
and access shares

Interdomain trust between Samba and W2003 ADS in native mode
Hi,
I try to setup a two-way interdomain trust relationship between Samba
3.2.4 and W2003 ADS in native mode (not mixed-mode).
I follow this Samba HOWTO without success:
http://us6.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/InterdomainTrusts.html
All is working fine if i use a Windows NT4 Server instead of W2003 ADS.
Is there something to do on Samba or ADS so that it works ? Security

SID-UID mapping issue on Samba 3.0.4 in an AD Domain
I have problems with SID to UID mapping using winbind on a FreeBSD 5.2/Samba
3.0.4
as a member server of a Win2k domain controller. I use heimdal-0.6.1 for
kerberos.
I would like my XP machines in the domain to use the share with the user
accounts
defined in Active Directory.
At a first glance it seems to work: the connection to the share succeeds
without a
prompt for a password. Users may

Trust between Samba PDC and AD domain
I've pored through the documentation, wiki, lists, etc, and I can't seem
to come to a concise conclusion on how to accomplish this.
My specific scenario is the following.
I have a samba PDC domain called domainA, and an AD domain called
domainB. domainA and domainB are different named domains, and they each
authenticate logins and credentials on their own turf.
The users on domainA

Inter Domain Trusts
Hi,
We've tried to set two servers PDC Samba 3 + OpenLDAP as following below:
Network_1 192.168.42.0/24
Network_2 192.168.43.0/24
PDC1(PRJLINUX1) - 192.168.42.2 - NETBIOS NAME = PRJARQ6
PDC2(PRJLINUX2) - 192.168.43.251 - NETBIOS NAME = PRJARQ5
OpenLDAP 2.2.24
Samba 3.0.14a Backports
Deban 3 Woody
OpenLDAP:
The servers are using the same DataBase and the PRJARQ6 is a Slave from
PRJARQ5.

Domain Trusts between 3.0.28 and 3.4.3 with '--enable-merged-build'
Hi,
Is is possible to have inter domain trusts between Samba 3.0.28 and
Samba 3.4.3, the latter compiled with the '--enable-merged-build'
option?
(I.e. similar to
<URL:http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/InterdomainTrusts.html#id2621030>
but with Samba 3.4.3 instead of Windows 2000.)

looking for up-to-date documentation on trusts
The Samba How-To Documentation is very out of date- at least for the
section on Interdomain trusts (Apr 2003, doesn't mention anything beyond
Windows 2000.)

The change notes also stop at that samba 3.0.x series

Share users across domains
I'm not setting up a new one, I already have one samba 3 domain with
ldap with thousands of users. This domain is only for administratives.
Now I need to extend this domain for students.

Domain Trust and smbclient error.
I am trying to get a W2K server to trust a samba 3.0 server.
I followed the directions in the InterdomainTrusts.html file and receive
an error that the domain is not found when trying to trust it.
my samba server is configured to use pam to authenticate. I had to add a
user named "w2kdomain$" on the machine before I could run smbpasswd -a -i
w2kdomain. Once I did that, it created the

samba NT4 domain trusting samba AD domain: ephimeral
hi all,
thanks to Rowland advice, I checked the net trustdom way to establish
trust between domains.
In my setup I have a samba-4.7.4 NT4 domain named TRUSTING which needs
to have a trusting (outgoing)[1] with samba-4.7.4 AD domain named ATENEOAD.
As far as I know it is very similar to:
https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/InterdomainTrusts.html#id2620849
