I want to use CNAMES for my SAMBA server, how?
I have a RedHat Enterprise 3 server running SAMBA 3.0.10. The server has been joined to the Active Directory forest using its fully qualified domain name. Windows clients can successfully map drives using that fully qualified name, However, services have a tendency to be moved or need failover during maintenance so I would prefer to tell customers to use a service alias like

Samba+LDAP: Vista clients logging out upon logon
We have a network of 12 Vista machines with a Samba PDC/LDAP server. For the most part, things are working great. Our users are annoyed (to a high degree) by the occasional requirement to logon twice. Since this just happened to me, I'll describe it: I typed CTRL-ALT-DELETE on a Vista client, and was presented with the logon dialog. After entering my password (the username was

Integrating Win2k3 into Samba PDC (on OSX 10.4.10)
I have a problem related to what I thought would be a fairly simple procedure. We have a working OSX Server 10.4.10 Open Directory system, with Windows Services enabled via Samba as a PDC. We have joined approximately 20 WinXP workstations to the Samba domain, and OD users can log into these systems as expected (i.e. authentication works). I have a Win2K3 server that was recently purchased and

100% CPU using OSX client
Hi there, Normally happy OSX (10.6.4) user here. I am accessing a samba share on my Gentoo linux machine (i know, i know...) which is running samba-3.4.9 at the moment. When I try to copy files from a CD on my mac to the smb:// share, after every few files the transfer will pause for a few seconds, and during the pause the linux machine will use 100% cpu - the result is a very obvious

"File is in use" error when I have one folder with content selected from one client and try to delete from other and both are OSX clients
Hi all, I have a debian jessie server with sernet samba 4.2.8 installed. The problem is when I try to delete a folder with content at the same time that a client is selecting the same folder. In the first client give the error because of the file is in use(the folder) but deletes all the content and in a second time with the folder empty I can delete the folder fine. I have other problem but I

Joining Mac OSX 10.8.4 Small contribution for the documentation/wiki?...
Hello list, I'd like to share with you my experience with Samba4 AD-DC and Mac OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.4 joining it to the domain and using kerberos implementation on OSX to authenticate users against the AD. Maybe it's useful to anyone here My scenario: My domain controller is on a remote location and I've got my router (Mikrotik) setup to create a PPTP tunnel to the w2k8 server

Can't create files using Mac OSX Client against Samba server on Debian Linux
So I have my Debian Linux (latest stable release) box setup as a Samba server for my home LAN. What I'm trying to do is share a single directory (not a home directory) to any/all computers on the LAN. I have several Windwos client (a mix of Win9x, Win2000, and WinXP) as well as an iBook G3 running OSX 10.2.6. This share works great from all of the Windows clients. >From the iBook, I

Hi, I'm looking for an open source client for icecast2 to run it on OSx Leopard 10.5.8 I took a look at Nicecast but wasn't convinced by it. Any suggestions? Best regards, -- Dan Bahena http://twitter.com/informatux http://xti.informatux.net

Can't create files using Mac OSX Client against Sambaserver on Debian Linux
Well, after some more poking around, I discovered that this problem was not neccessarily a simple matter of getting Samba properly configured. For the benefit of the list, I've posted the following URL which takes you to a Debian bug report which starts out with a post describing the exact problem I'm seeing. As it turns out, it may have more to do with a problem with file locking

Xten SIP client for Macintosh OSX
[this post is just as much for the archives as it is for immediate consumption] Somehow I had completely missed the announcement that XTen Networks had released a SIP client for Mac OSX. Well, they have. It seems to mostly work, even! Very cool. The User interface leaves something to be desired, with it's menus trying to force me to use cell-phone sized windows (!!!!) to manipulate

I think gentoo is pretty baller so I wouldn't apologize for using it. Anyway I would try unmasking samba-3.5.6, I have been using it for a couple of weeks and it has been great. I had a bit of trouble with the 3.4.9

osx client
Dear Dan, I would give Nicecast the highest recommendation. We have a dedicated Icecast2 server that we use for remote broadcasts, and Nicecast has handled itself extremely well - even in some pretty high profile situations with consumer-grade connections (e.g. running an ethernet cable to a Linksys WTG54 router for a 3+ hour remote broadcast of a live concert). It also has some additional

Weird keyboard/buffer issue using OSX Client
When using up-arrow to retrieve the last executed command, or browse my history, each command becomes suffixed with a few lines worth of spaces. It's annoying having to backspace over this many spaces or manually move the cursor to perform edits. I'm currently using R 2.10.10 GUI 1.30 on Mac OSX 10.6. If I retrieve a command from my history using the history interface, the spaces are

OSX client, Linux server, permissions problem
I've been using samba for some time and have always had a good experience. I decided to try and configure my home network to let all my computers talk to the samba share. I'm stuck on one part where my OSX client, when creating new files/directories, won't create them writeable by the group. I've tried what seems like every combination of directory mask, force directory

Mount unix samba 4 share to osx client without mangled file names
Hi Ralph, Thanks, it works as expected with 4.2.0rc2! I simply followed the manual and added this to the share's config: vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr fruit:resource = file fruit:metadata = netatalk fruit:locking = netatalk fruit:encoding = native Thanks for your help. How to Join Mac OSX workstation as AD domain member
I think I have my Mac AD mappings wrong. The following link https://support.apple.com/kb/PH26272?viewlocale=en_ME&locale=en_ME, says: > On a computer that's configured to use Directory Utility's Active Directory connector, you can > specify an Active Directory attribute to map to the group ID (GID), primary group ID (GID), and > unique user ID (UID) attribute in macOS. >

How to shutdown macOS / mac OSX from Network UPS Tools client - NUT
Thanks Roger and Charles for your responses. Simple question first > > Have you tried typing the command "/sbin/shutdown -u -h +1" directly? Does this perform a shutdown? Yes, it does shutdown the iMac. > > Is your System Shutdown Plan to shut down using upsmon or using the script upsched-cmd? This question undermines my reading of the documentation. I had thought
