locking.tdb size
Hi, I'm running samba-3.5.6 (Debian/stable, PowerPC) on a small LAN (really small, 1 Mac client, 1 Windows client) serving 3 shares (1 ro, 2 rw) to both of them and I noticed that /var/run/samba/locking.tdb sometimes grows to several megabytes in size. My /var/run is a tmpfs mountpoint, 10MB in total. locking.tdb is currently 4MB in size, sometimes it grew even bigger and one time even

gencache.tdb growing and growing and...
Is it normal that the gencache.tdb should grow and grow “forever” and fill up with “RA/<hex>” posts? I’ve been investigating why our Samba 4.7.3 servers (happened with older version 4 servers too) would use such insane amounts of memory on our FreeBSD 11.1 servers (we see smbd processes using hundreds of megabytes of RAM and up to 5GB virtual memory). Anyway, one part that seems to use

smbstatus & connections.tdb
Greetings, After recently upgrading Samba from 2.0.7 to 2.2.2 on my Solaris Unix servers, I have problems running command 'smbstatus'. When I run smbstatus as root, it correctly displays connection information for users who've mapped network drives to server shares. However, when I run smbstatus as non-root, instead of displaying connection information, it issues the message

Number of imap-login processes always keeps growing, never goes down
Hi all! I've bumped into an issue which Dovecot which has me a bit stumped; All of a sudden (ie. no obvious changes made to the config as far as I know) Dovecot seems to never stop 'imap-login' processes. This continues to the point where it will hit the 'process_limit'. For a 50-ish user install the limit was set to 100 but I increased it to 512. The only thing this changes

smbstatus connections.tdb not initialised
Hi all, I just figured out something that I could not find any solutions on any where, and thought I'd share it with you. Initially I had a standard rpm install from the distribution for Samba (2.2.1a). A new fix version came out and since the rpm version was older I decided to switch to installing from src (2.2.2). Then in a weak moment I executed an online software upgrade, in

Hangs trying to lock locking.tdb ?
Hi, server Kernel: Linux 2.4.21 server Samba: 2.2.3a-12.3 from Debian package Client : Win2k (& XP?) We have a problem where when someone browses a directory on a share they see a LONG (~1 minute?) pause. The server is very lightly loaded. This doesn't seem to happen if they are logged on as nobody/guest, only if they are logged on as a user; it happens for multiple

messages.tdb growing large
Running Samba 3.5.8 on Ubuntu server 11.04 32 bit. Server is HP DL-385 8 core - 16GB 1TB raid 1. My messages.tdb file is 664223744 bytes and we are having strange problems with printers. My print queues will die and nothing prints. One way to fix it is to comment out the printer from printcap, save it printcap, then reverse the process. This fixes the printer but the same problem occurs several

page cache keeps growing untill system runs out of memory on a MIPS platform
Hi, I have samba-3.0.28a crosscompiled and running on a MIPS platform. The development system has about 150MB of free RAM after system bootup and no swap space. The system also has an USB interface, to which an external USB hard disk is connected. When I try to transfer huge files above (100MB) from a client on to the USB hard disk, I find that the page cache eats up almost about 100MB and

Byte Range Locks
Hi, We still got problems with locking here. People don't get a hanging Word/Excel anymore but sometimes people get error messages from outlook that some other process has a byte range lock on a file. Now when I run smbstatus -B on the samba host I get tons of lines like this Byte range locks: Pid dev:inode R/W start size

smb keeps stale connections from logged out users and shut down clients
We are using Samba 3.0.33 as a PDC and file server for Windows XP clients, but seem to be suffering lots of stale connections. smbstatus still shows connections from users already logged out and even from systems which have already been shut down. Restarting the samba service, cleans up all stale connections. We tried deadtime = 5 in the samba configuration file, but this does not help at all.

Solaris nss_ldap vs PADL nss_ldap
Hi All, Any thoughts on why, while everything seems ok at the OS level (getent , id -a ) Samba doesn't pickup any supplementary groups when Solaris is configured with 'group: files ldap' in nsswitch.conf and using it's own native nss_ldap.so.1 but does when using PADL's nss_ldap? Everything else is equal. Do they use/accept different calls or could it be an

brlock.tdb and locking.tdb always missing on RH 7.2
Hi! I've been fighting with Samba for over a week now and I can't seem to work it out. It all started when I installed the standard samba (2.2.1a-4) which came with RH7.2. I ran "smbstatus" and got the following error: Failed to open byte range locking database ERROR: Failed to initialise locking database Can't initialise locking module - exiting. I've tried the

smbstatus connection.tdb not initialised
HI, I recently upgraded from SAMBA 2.0.7 to SAMBA 2.2.2. I downloaded the binaries (from samba.org binary packages) for HP UX 10.20. I am able to map drives and print however when I execute smbstatus (even at the root level) I get connections.tdb not initialised. This file does not exist in the /var/opt/samba/locks directory. I changed my log level to 3 to try to see what is going on but

Samba 4 DC - File locking problems when a client crashes
We are using Samba 4.1.4 as a standalone domain controller for 50 Windows 7 Clients. If a client crashes or the user hasn't shutdown his computer correctly, smbstatus shows still many open files from this user. (like desktop shotcuts, firefox profile and so on.) When this user starts his computer again, Windows can't access these files anymore, all desktop shutcuts are missing and Firefox
