samba bug
Hi. I have some trouble with my samba domain controller. Every time I try to logout my windows workstation, I get an error that the share is no longer availible. I estimate that this happens around the time when windows tries to copy my user profile back to the server. (because when I change profile type to local the error no longer occurs) on the samba side the following error is logged.

openldap missing modules
Hi List, I'm currently setting up an openldap server and included the following lines in my slapd.conf : modulepath /usr/lib/ldap moduleload back_hdb after finishing up my config and i run slaptest on it i get an error saying that the modulepath doesn't exist. I checked and it indeed isn't there , in fact i can find it anywhere on my system (centos 5.7). the packages i've

Two samba related openldap overlays
Two openldap overlays that may be of interest to others. In the first, I've hacked up Howard Chu's smbk5pwd openldap overlay to include the automatic addition of sambaNTPassword, sambaLMPassword, and sambaPwdLastSet attributes to any sambaSamAccount entries that are being ADDED to the directory. WARNING: This overlay is ONLY useful with cleartext passwords. In the second, I've

Increasing database size limit
Hi Volker, First I apologize for very late reply. I did tests in the meantime... Trust relationships are the option we keep in mind. As trusts are for now bidirectional-full-trust they give us possibility to increase domain size. If we have to split our domain we will split in one domain for users and another for computers (meaning users' MS Windows computers as they need to be included into

openldap authentication
I have an existing openldap schema which is handling mail, web and ftp services right now. I am trying to get a windows machine talking to the same filesystem as apache on linux via samba and read/write using the correct uid/gid. I was trying to shy away from using pam_ldap as there is no need to tie the user in ldap directly to the filesystem. The problem is it looks like the samba ldap module

Samba PDC, OpenLDAP, and passwd chat
Hey List, I'm using Samba 3.0.24 and OpenLDAP 2.3.30 (with the ppolicy and smbk5pwd overlays). While testing Samba as a PDC with an OpenLDAP backend, I've hit a snag on password change. I currently have the following in my smb.conf related to password changes: passwd program = /usr/bin/ldappasswd -x -W -S -D uid=%u,ou=Users,dc=example,dc=com passwd chat = "*Enter

protocol error with OpenLDAP, v3
I sort of succesfully installed samba2.2.5 with OpenLDAP 2.0.26 as a PDC on one machine. Alas the performance is very poor. Authentication process takes 10 Seconds pser, noticable one or two seconds per "net use d:" in the logon script. The process which consumes all CPU cycles is slap. I tried to tune with some h help of openLDAP mailinglist members (indices, nscd), but i didn't

"net" command with openldap 2.1.1?
The Samba net command (from the HEAD) sounds great, but it doesn't seem to compile with OpenLDAP version 2.1.1 Beta. When compiling, I get this error: Compiling passdb/pdb_ldap.c passdb/pdb_ldap.c: In function `ldapsam_connect_system': passdb/pdb_ldap.c:313: too few arguments to function `ldap_set_rebind_proc' *** Error code 1 It seems that the head of Samba doesn't use the

CTDB and PDC Role
Hi, I'm looking to install a new 2-node Samba3 cluster. The cluster will be responsible for Domain Management and file/printer serving. How does the PDC/BDC roles work with CTDB enabled?, does the cluster appear as just one machine (and PDC)?. In the past I've configured PDC/BDC pairs with OpenLDAP as backend and DRBD for active/passive file serving. Now it sounds nice to have

Samba 2.2.5 and openldap 2.1.2
Hi, I'm having problems with the current samba releases (2.2.4 + 2.2.5) and the current openldap (openldap-2.1.2-1) redhat rawhide RPMS. I suppose samba is having problems with LDAP v3, because when I try for example: [root@fatboy /tmp]# /usr/local/samba/bin/pdbedit -l Bind failed: Protocol error in syslog appears: Jun 24 00:52:55 fatboy slapd[14370]: connection_get(16) Jun 24 00:52:55

Hi! I have been reading for about two weeks (maybe I'm reading on the wrong places). I have found as many documents as one could expect describind how to build a LDAPv3 server, or how to build samba with ldap. This far, I have failed, and have a BIG confution in the order in wich the things should go: In one document, they recommend this: samba -> ldap -> sasl -> kerberos

Samba 2.2.5 + OpenLDAP 2.x - Caveats?
Hi List(s) I'm in the process of configuring a new PDC using Samba 2.2.5. At the present time we have 9 other Samba PDCs in nonconnected sites. In the next few months, these sites will become part of a WAN and we're looking to migrate authentication for these servers to a single box, for obvious administration benefits. The client base is primarily Win2k, SP2 & SP3. Now I'm
