RE: PDC's on same Network (Golden Butler)
You can have as many PDC's on a network with same subnet as you like keeping in mind they must have different domain names - ie workgroup = Cheers, Adrian Sender. >From: Golden Butler <golden@cnt.org> >To: Samba Mailing List <samba@lists.samba.org> >Subject: [Samba] 2 PDC's on same Network >Date: Thu, 18 May 2006 08:57:59 -0500 >Hi, > >I'm looking

Could you install Exchange on a Samba PDC's network?
Could you install Exchange on a Samba PDC's network? What would happen if you tried to run /domainprep? Could Exchange interact with a LDAP backend? Would this be some sort of NT4/W2K mixed-mode directory services setup?

Samba PDC, LDAP and permissions
Hi all, I have a Samba PDC running on OpenSuSe 10 with LDAP as the backend and am running Mandriva 2006 as a member server with a few shares for users. The PDC seems OK and I've added the member using the instructions in the Samba example documents and I'm at the following point: OpenLDAP is running on the PDC itself. I can login to Linux as any LDAP user account suggesting that NSS

Domain Admins
Hi, I'm trying to set up one of my users to be a domain admin. I have unix/ldap group called "domainadm" with "user1" a member of the group. When I run "net groupmap list" I get the following: Domain Admins (S-1-5-21-186220259-3826000728-3192352269-7033) -> domainadm But when I go to log in to the domain with "user1" on a winxp machine, the

Samba PDC + Winbind
Hello all. First, a little background... I recently downloaded samba-*-ldap-2.2.5-2mdk , installed on Mandrake 8.2 and got everything working fine. I have LDAP installed for "single sign-on" support. I can use LDAP to authenticate other Linux boxes, and have Samba as a PDC for some Win2000 boxes - all working fine. Linux users are the same as PDC users, except for their passwords

two PDC's on same machine in same subnet
By now we had running samba as PDC and fileserver for about 20 NT4-clients with roaming profiles. Now we start migrating NT4-clients to XP-clients and as I found out roaming userprofiles between XP and NT4 is not possible (NT4->XP works, but not vice versa). So I just thought about cloning all the profiles (docs and mails are not in the profiles so only bookmarks, adressbook and

gidNumber's and ldap backed samba PDC
In the planning process for migrating from NT4 PDC, and external ldap directory to samba 3.2.8 PDC. The external existing openldap directory is used currently to support the local uid mapping for the Linux logins and samba file servers that are members of the current NT4 PDC. While looking at the existing openldap UIDs and GIDs in use and what the samba PDC wants to use I see some uid/gid

LDAP PDC migration gone wrong.
Hi All, I have a problem following the migration of my PDC's backend from tdbsam to LDAP. We started out with a PDC called SMB1 which ran with a tdbsam backend. I used pdbedit to convert it to LDAP and built a new server onto which the LDIF file was loaded. Samba was then setup to use the LDAP server as a backend. So far so good, Samba runs against LDAP and I was able to add 60 new XP

Hot-failover between a Samba 3.x.x PDC and BDC with LDAP backend
I would like to know how to achieve a "hot-failover" setup between a Samba 3.x.x primary domain controller and backup domain controller with a LDAP backend. I was under the impression that all I need to specify is something like the following in my smb.conf: passdb backend = ldapsam:"ldap://pdc-srv.domain.org ldap://bdc-srv.domain.org" I have set this passdb backend

Samba PDC/LDAP Questions
Howdy all... I am trying to use two different samba servers in a test environment such that a Win98 SE user logs into his/her workstation, authenticates/authorizes themself via the PDC, and then mounts a different samba server to store his/her files. By files I *guess* I mean profile as this is where I assume that this user's personal files will end up. Question 1: Is this assumption that a

PDC/BDC trouble
All, I'm using an LDAP backend for a test PDC/BDC setup. Both the PDC and BDC are using the same LDAP server. Both the PDC and BDC are running 3.0.23c on Sarge, and I've verified that both the PDC and BDC will authenticate users via smbclient. XP clients are able to login to the domain fine, and all is generally swell. My PDC is also my WINS server, and I've verified that XP clients

Transferring PDC responsibility without LDAP
I'm using a NT4-style domain on my home network, with Samba 3.5.3 acting as PDC. I would like to transfer PDC responsibilty to a different GNU/Linux machine so I can retire the original PDC. With Windows DCs, I understand this is simple -- just create a BDC, promote it, and remove the old. However, an analogous approach would be problematic here, because in Samba going from one DC to two is

Question on PDC's and BDC's
Morning everyone. I have a question about something i've been thinking about lately. I recently rolled out a samba server running 2.2.8a with OpenLDAP 2.0.27 on the backend to hold the user account info. My question is, how many people out there are running samba as their PDC and have implemented a BDC as well? I'm starting to consider about putting up a BDC for safeties sake. Does

Samba pdc with ldap & samba3-3.0.25c-34 on CentOS 5
Hi all, I had been running a Samba pdc using the standard tdbsam backend on CentOS 4.5 supporting 20+ WinXPsp2 workstations and a Win2k3 Terminal Server. This set up was running fine for arroung 18 months maybe more. The above system was built on ageing hardware that used to be a Win 2k server that died from OS corruption. Due to the expanding client needs there was good reason to replace

Samba, LDAP, PDC and udding users
Hi all! I've had a lot of success setting up Samba PDC's using the LDAP-SAM backend, and got password sync working between Unix (LDAP) passwords and Samba passwords. I can also have other Linux boxes use Winbind to auth vrs. the PDC and thus achieve the same password sync functionality (i.e., Samba changes both PAM and Samba passwords, as well as checking them). Naturally, this also

Migrate SMB/LDAP to new server
I need to migrate my current LDAP/SMB PDC to a new server. I found the information on how to replace an existing server with a new system with the same name, but in my case, I still need the existing system to continue as a slave LDAP/SMB BDC. I used slapcat to get the ldap database, and then used this ldif to create the new ldap database on the new server. Linux logins work fine. I used

Dial-Up Users Not Able to Access Network with Samba PDC
I recently replaced my NT PDC with a Samba PDC with an LDAP backend. Most clients have 2000 and XP machines but a few clients who have 98 machines are not able to access any servers on the network when they dial in to our NT 4.0 RAS server in spite of the fact that they receive all of the proper network settings from the DHCP server and they are successfully authenticated by the Samba/LDAP PDC.

Samba PDC + OpenLDAP replica
Hi! I would like to ask you Samba gurus if it is possible to set up Samba PDC which uses OpenLDAP replica as backend. I had two separate OpenLDAP master servers (2.2.13-4) for two different Samba PDC servers (3.0.14a-2) with TLS support in different virtual networks (VLANs), and all worked fine. However, I decided that it would be nice (from an administrative point of view) to have all
