Domain logins across subnets
Greetings, My environment is Samba 3.0.23d as a PDC, password backend is OpenLDAP 2.3.27, running on SuSE 10.1; workstations are Windows XP SP2, all recent patches applied. All machines are on the same Class B private IP network. Domain logons function perfectly, performance is very nice. For security and performance reasons we are looking at dividing the network into many VLANS, each with its

temporary profiles problem - don't want roaming profiles
I have a Samba PDC (Ubuntu 12, OpenLDAP 2.4.28, Samba 3.6.3), and at two remote sites, I have some Samba BDCs. For now I've manually entered the DCs as WINS servers on the workstations I'm using for testing. At the remote sites, I can log in with an account that has no logon path or logon home specified, and it works perfectly. But at the main site, when I try to log on to one of these

Erratic behavior when Windows XP clients attempt to login to PDC
I have noticed while testing my Samba 3.0.2a primary and backup domain controllers with Windows XP clients, that when I attempt to login to the Samba PDC, the XP client will sometimes randomly choose the backup domain controller. I only want the client to join the backup domain controller when the PDC is offline. I am not experiencing any random network outages or DNS failures so I am bewildered

Problems with the IdealX scripts
Not sure if this is where I should ask about this, but if I try to run any of the smbldap-* scripts, I get the following kind of output: oink:/usr/local/sbin # ./smbldap-populate Using builtin directory structure erreur LDAP: Can't contact master ldap server (IO::Socket::INET: Bad protocol 'tcp') at /usr/local/sbin//smbldap_tools.pm line 153. Backup Domain not working
I recently set up a backup domain controller using Samba 3.0.23. I have a Samba PDC already running, and all is working fine, but once I added the BDC, now when people log in to their windows account, their home directory is now being mapped to their home on the BDC (which is empty) instead of the PDC. Conf files from each below: PDC Samba Conf: [global] unix charset = LOCALE

some clients cannot login
I have a problem that's happening randomly in my network. Starting a couple of weeks ago, some clients (All of my clients are running Windows XP)on my network cannot login to their sessions and windows brings out an error saying that the domain controller is not available or is blocked. I don't understand why this is happening, seeing that other clients can perfectly log in their computers

I have gotten as far as getting my domain going on LDAP within one subnet, but now I'm trying
