Very slow file copy performance over a WAN (HELP)
Hi, I've noticed that over a WAN (T1) I'm getting incredibly slow file copy performance. Using smbclient on a linux machine on one size of the WAN, As you can imagine, this makes all of our file shares unusable over the WAN. It's not an issue with WAN performance, because using scp to transfer the same file, I get speeds of ~145k/s. A tcpdump of the file copy of ~2MB file that actually

Slow navigation on samba share
hi all, I have a problem with some windows 7 pro (64) clients navigating on samba shares. The user wants to open a folder and then it takes a long time until it opens. Looking into the samba log of the PC it is filled with this entries (seems to check for every ldap user): [2013/03/18 10:10:54.224428, 2] passdb/pdb_ldap.c:572(init_sam_from_ldap) init_sam_from_ldap: Entry found for user:

incorrect behavior: hide unreadable option in conjunction with user ACLs
Hi guys, we are using samba 3.0.4 as domain member server (security=ADS) in our Active Directory Domain. In order not to compromise social peace, we use POSIX ACLs in conjunction with the hide unreadable option to hide folders/files from users. I'll show you an example to explain the problem: I'm the user "SCHARRNET+M006U122" (SCHARRNET=domain suffix). I'm connecting to

Problem with folder redirection and "guest user"
Hi all, I am setting up my second server with Samba 3.0.21c with LDAP as described in Samba3-ByExample. The server OS is Slackware Linux 10.2, without PAM. All seemed to work perfect until I decided to try folder redirection. I followed the instructions given in the "happy users" chapter, but now new users cant log in. When trying to log in with a new user (umgrtest16) from a WinXP SP2

AW: Big problem with roaming profiles
I had the same problem. We used samba 3.0.14 and upgraded to 3.0.20 After that profile were not loaded anymore. Th problen you are discribing looks like Windows is loading the local copy of your profile and after you deleted it it tries to load the profile from samba and fails. I found out that we had problems with "profile acls = Yes" wich was needed by the earlier samba releases.

Locked prf files within Roaming Profiles
Hello everybody, we have the following problem here: We've set up a complete samba domain (based on 3.0.20 now) which is running very fine including ldap backend. But we've still problems using roaming profiles (especially prf*tmp) files. We already tested the veto oplock directive with /prf*.tmp/ and even /*.tmp/ but these files remain always locked. Only "root" can delete

Problem with invisible folders by using posix ACLs & the hide unreadable parameter (Samba-3.0.4/Linux)
Hi, we've got a worse problem with our s.3.0.4 file server. The server is configured as a domain member server and is running in security=ADS mode. We use the hide unreadable parameter in conjunction with posix ACLs to ensure, that our users only see those folders, on which they have been authorized. With s.2.2.8a everything worked fine. Yesterday we migrated to s.3.0.4 and have now the

Friendly Reminder: Would you please comment on my findings?
Hi again, Alain, as Jeremy and Rowland advised to strip down my smb.conf as much as possible, I haven't yet tried with "hide unreadable = no". Do you indeed mean to say that setting "hide unreadable = no" on the Samba *server* might indeed cause a difference in the way the Windows *client* sends its SMB2_FIND_ID_BOTH_DIRECTORY_INFO commands? This would mean that

home share disconnected / delayed write failure
Hello everybody, we have an annoying problem with our samba server randomly disconnecting the home shares. Our "Application Data" folders as well as "Desktop" are redirected to directories in the user's home folder outside ".profiledata" to avoid the copying during logon /logoff. >From time to time clients get an error message "Delayed Write
