smbstatus - switched off computers are sometimes showed
I have a Samba server configured as PDC for ~100 computers. It's version 3.0.24 running on Debian Etch (distribution package). I want to write a tool for user logon/logoff tracking. Because parsing log files is hard job (windows frequently disconnets or connects during user session or etc.) I decide to use smbstatus output which seem to be reliable. So I run smbstatus binary every 10

Closing sessions and smbstatus
Hi, When are client sessions closed? Let me explain what I'm trying to do... we're in a School district and we try to stop kids logging more than once. They way I did this before was to dump the active sessions from our previous Server2003 fileserver into a file once a minute and process it with a Perl script to check who was connected from where, rebooting machines remotely as

"shared mem size" parameter and smbstatus
I am trying to use the "shared mem size" parameter in Samba 2.0.4b, but the size reported by smbstatus does not match the value I am using. Without the parameter, the default is 1MB, and the size reported by smbstatus is indeed 1048576. However, when I set the value of "shared mem size" to 5242880 (5MB), smbstatus says 879608. Is smbstatus not reporting the actual size, or

smbstatus & connections.tdb
Greetings, After recently upgrading Samba from 2.0.7 to 2.2.2 on my Solaris Unix servers, I have problems running command 'smbstatus'. When I run smbstatus as root, it correctly displays connection information for users who've mapped network drives to server shares. However, when I run smbstatus as non-root, instead of displaying connection information, it issues the message

Meaning of "smbstatus" display
Hello. I'm wondering about what smbstatus of Samba 3.0.2a display. When I run "smbstatus --processes", I see that some "entries" from the lower "services" list are not present in the upper part of the list. Why is that so? Let me give an example. In the smbstatus list below, I'm concerned about these entries: caxshare 9167 hpfrb34402ym Fri Mar 12

smbstatus exit value
Hi, Despite looking at https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/current/man-html/smbstatus.1.html and "man smbstatus", I don't see how to know the full list of possible exit status for command smbstatus. All I could test brings an exit code of 0 in most cases and 255 if option -s is an unreadable file. Is there a man page that lists all possible return values? Regards Santiago

Samba 3 smbstatus not as good
I use a lot of "force user" and "force group" directives on various shares. With smbstatus of Samba 2 I could always verify with a glance what uid and gid a particular service is being accessed as, with Samba 3 you can't. I'd REALLY like to see that come back to smbstatus. Here's a real world example of my complaint... Samba 2 smbstatus output... Samba version

smbstatus issue in v4.1
Sorry I should have said in my original post, this server is a NT4 style domain server. Looking in /var/log/samba I see log files with the machine names in the file names, so samba definitely knows the machine names. XP doesn't logoff from samba domain
PDC: Samba 2.2.8a on linux 2.4.20 + XFS + ACL, rather normal configuration. Client: Win XP Pro When user logon to Domain, I can see him (smbstatus, utmpx). But when he logoff, the record is still there. It disappears when I reboot the XP. According to M$ knowledge-base the problem is that samba doesn't handle the logoff correctly. Do you have any solution of this? -- Honza Houstek

Conversion error Illegal multibyte sequence in smbstatus
Hi, My output of smbstatus is bugged somehow in the Locked files section. For every line with a non ascii character, the whole string from the character to the end (included) is removed. Hence the line is attached to the next one. Here is a simplified example Locked files: Pid ... SharePath Name Time --------------------------------- 8910 ... /path

smbstatus parsing (XML output)
Hey all, I'm preparing to start development of a new version of 'smbstatus' that produces XML output, instead of the tabular data it currently produces. This follows an attempt to parse the output of the current 'smbstatus' ( 3.0.22) using grep and a few other shell tools, from a system call in PHP, and then further RegEx parsing to create a multidimensional array of the
