All; I am using the cobalt Qube 2 which uses a Cobalt OS with is supposedly a RedHat Linux 4.2 variant. I can not compile the new rsync version 2.5.7 as I always fail my make with the following error: clientname.c: In function `client_addr': clientname.c:72: warning: implicit declaration of function `getnameinfo' clientname.c:73: `NI_NUMERICHOST' undeclared (first use this function)

Installing opensshd on Sun Cobalt Linux, shell interpreter issue
I have just installed openssh on my Sun Cobalt Qube, running Linux. The shell interpreter for the rc script forces /sbin/sh. This is defined in opensshd.init.in. This shell does not exist on this implementation of Linux. I have written about this in (much more) detail at http://blogs.sun.com/roller/page/DaveLevy/20060104. NB This would seem to me to be a common problem but I havn't found

Backup problems resolved!
Guys, I've been searching for a Windows based backup solution for the SAMBA shares on my Linux server (a Cobalt Qube) since last November, trying both Seagate Backup Exec and ARCserve but with no success. I've been monitoring this list and tried most of the suggestions, but nothing came close. I'm pleased to say that I've found a solution that works for me ... Dantz have

Do I need NETBIOS/NETBEUI on windows clients when samba is my PDC
Hi, I replaced my old Windows NT box runnig as PDC with a Cobolt Qube 3 and Samba-2.2.2-C1. Cobalt Linux version is 2.2.16C33_III+VPN. With the WinNT as PDC, all windows client's in the network had only TCP/IP protocol installed and they were able to browse the network and see each other. With Samba running as PDC, TCP/IP only is not enough to browse the network. I had to install NETBIOS

Can't map samba drive from Win2K SP2 Server
I am running smbd version 2.0.9 and cannot map to a samba share from a Windows 2000 SP2 Server. I can however map from the samba server to the win2k Server. I can also map from the Windows Server to a windows 2000 Pro laptop on the same network, so I know that the server can map shares outside of itself. I can also map from a Win2K pro client and from other unix boxes to the samba server. I can

Converting old F-Secur SSH-keys
Hi, I just tries to convert an old ssh2 dsa-key generated by F-Secure SSH in 1998. The problem is that the base64-encoding of this key is bad. They key works just fine when using F-Secure SSH but openssh will not convert it. My question now is if people think it is worth fixing this, and if it is where should it be fixed? One could either fixed the base64-routines to be more tolerant, but that

logons
I am running samba 1.9.18p10 on a Cobalt Qube2. Logins from Win98 machines were working fine until I installed patches 3.0 and 3.0.1 from Cobalt and now I get the error "... couldn't find service netlogon" Then, when more than 1 PC tries to access a file off one of the shares, smbd starts to eat 98% of the CPU and the log file says: "receive_local_message. Error in recvfrom.

.ssh/: Is a directory
I'm depending on scp to create the .ssh directory (which is does) but it can't use the directory it just created in the current session thus the "error" message. I would like to run the command just once if possible :) Is it possible I could get a patch if this is changed? [root /root]# ls -la total 84 drwxr-x--- 9 root root 4096 Dec 17 19:18 . drwxr-xr-x 16

Winbindd IDMAP SID-to-UNIX-IDs problem
IDAMP cache somehow ends up with an unmapped SID2UID entry (i.e value = -1) and the SID2GID entry expires. At this stage winbindd returns unmapped for a SID-to-UNIX-IDs request. This results in smbd giving incorrect group memberships and incorrect resource access, until the SID2UID entry expires. This is surely a bug? Samba version is 3.6.6 as bundled with our current Solaris 10 patch revision

Trouble with large files and 1.9.18p10
Hi Folks, I'm new to the list, and am writing because of some trouble I am having. An old version of Samba is involved, and I am not sure that I can upgrade. I am trying to explore the issue further. I am currently using Samba 1.9.18p10 (I can hear the smack of 1,000 hands slapping foreheads now -- please read on). The problem is that the Samba server hangs when I copy a large file (~100

Centos 4.1 on RaQ 550?
Has anyone ever tried to install 4.0 or 4.1 on an old Sun RaQ 550 Cobalt machine? If so would you be willing to share your procedure and experience? I have spent several hours googling and have found how to do this with Fedora Core 1 using a 2.4 kernel. However I am wondering what Cobalt specific patches have to be applied to get 2.6 kernel to work. I have not found anything related to
