Samba behind firewall
Hi,
I was able to join samba to the domain successfully (net rpc testjoin
command says ok) but could not see it in network neighborhood. I can't map
to it as well. The machine is sitting on a different subnet and behind the
firewall.
What port should I open to make samba accessible to all Windows XP client
sitting on different subnets and not behind the firewall. I want to make

Samba as fileserver on Active Directory domain
Hello,
We have a Gentoo box running Samba and is a member of the Active
Directory domain. This Gentoo box will be a fileserver when everything
is completed and setup as it should. I want our users to login to their
computer (Computers are all members of the same Active Directory domain)
using Active Directory accounts/domain for authentication. I am using

Smart card logon
Hi all
Is possible to perform a logon from a XP workstation to a Samba3+LDAP managed domain with
a smartcard? I've readed somewhere that this is not possible with Samba3, but /could/ be
possible with the Samba4 package.
Thanks

3.0.23 ldapsam:trusted=yes problem
Hi all!
I've a running Samba PDC (LDAP backend) with windows clients. All the users
are in the LDAP, including the 'guest' user. All except the 'root' user which
is a regular user. Then change in the smb.conf
ldapsam:trusted = yes
ldapsam:editposix = yes
and noticed some speed-up when listing groups, look file ownerships, and so
on. But I can't add machines to the

Fwd: Re: Migrate NT domain 4 to samba
I tried "net lookup dc" and samba PDC did not show.
The NT machine we have has been shut down and not functional
anymore. Right now, we only have one linux box with gentoo running samba
and we want it to be the PDC.
Thanks,

Problem with Samba PDC, W2k SP4 + rollup clients, user accounts
Hi!
I've one big problem.
In my work we have a mixed network: one Debian Sarge with samba 3.0.14
acting as PDC and some w2k sp4 and windows xp sp2 pro/home with all
updates (including w2k sp4 update rollup) . Samba uses OpenLDAP as backend
using smbldap-tools 0.9.1 to manage users and computers. This setup has
worked perfectly since december (the LDAP is used by other services as

Multi office samba domains
Hi all!
I've a computer acting as a PDC in a network with Samba+OpenLDAP working fairly well ina
Debian Sarge for several months (Samba servers, XP cients). It's working so well that my
company wants to deploy this system to all the offices (five offices physically separated).
Each office has it's own peculiarities so each one has to have it's own domain with shares
and so on.

Could not join the domain - Samba and Openldap
Our PDC accidentally crashed and to eliminate down time, I quickly set up
one of the BDC to be the new PDC. I copied all the configuration file of
PDC to the BDC. These files are slapd.conf, ldap.conf, smb.conf, etc....
Now that the PDC is up and running again, I want to put it back to the way
it was since the BDC did not run to a functional state anyway.
Here is a snippet of the debug when I

Promoting Samba BDC to PDC
Hi,
Our domain is setup with one Primary Domain Controller and two Backup
Domain Controllers, and a member server. All domain controllers (PDC
and BDCs) are running Gentoo Linux with Samba and LDAP. The member
server (fileserver) is a SUNS machine running Solaris. We do everything
(add, edit, modify groups and accounts) on the PDC and it will then sync
all the changes to the BDC by way of

CentOS 4 install problems
Hi folks,
Has anyone experienced install problems with CentOS 4. More precisely
anaconda crashing with some remarks regarding python scripts. The funny
thing is the first installation went well. It's the re-install that
fails. Although I completely changed partitioning and reformatted the
drive. I had the same problem with fedora core 3 some time ago. To me
it looks as if it's

Samba + LDAP + ¿Kerberos?
Hi!
Perhaps this is not the appropiate list, but I need some advices.
I have a working Samba PDC with a LDAP backend over a secure TLS connection, with W2000
and XP clients. I've readed in a lot of places that Kerberos is a very nice thing to have
in the setup but I cannot see why. I know the foundations of kerberos but I can't see how
much "value" will add to the setup.

Promoting BDC to PDC
Hi,
Does someone know how will all my client machines find the BDC when
the PDC is stopped. Both PDC and BDC are running Samba with LDAPSAM
backend replicated on both the PDC with master LDAP database and BDC
with replicated LDAP database. But when I stop PDC the clients are
not detecting the BDC broadcast. The replication on all domain
controllers are perfect. I went as far as making BDC

Install Applications via Logon Scripts?
Is there a way to install a windows (XP) application via a logon script?
I'm not sure how to do it because most applications will require
interaction (next, next, next and etc). Has anyone figured out a way to
'push out' programs via logon script or something else relating to a Samba
domain?
Thanks,
Aaron

File locking problem between Linux and WinXP
I'm encountering a nasty file locking problem on my development system.
The base system is WinXP SP2 (call it "Alpha"), on which there is a
shared directory ("D:\Websites") on NTFS. Running in a M$ Virtual
Machine session on Alpha is an Ubuntu Linux (6.06) system, call it
"Beta". Most of the website development is done on Alpha, and Beta gets
spun up to
