smbd fails to start on Fedora Core 4
Hi, Having reset-up a print server from installation disks today, I did something stupid and blindly copied the contents of /etc/samba from the previous installation into the new installation. Now smbd refuses to start (nmbd starts OK). I am currently using a blank smb.conf file and the smb.conf file from the old installation. testparm doesn't report any errors in the smb.conf from the old

samba-3.0.0rc4: -P common option handler can't open secrets.tdb
It appears that there is some setup missing for handling the -P option to commands (via popt_common_credentials_callback()). I was trying to use the example file examples/printing/smbprint.sysv which suggested using the "-P" option to smbclient. I am always getting an error that "/secrets.tdb" can't be opened. I think that what is mis-ordered is that secrets_init() is

Error: Failed to open /etc/samba/secrets.tbd
I am trying to integrate a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 server into our Windows 2003 domain. I was able to successfully join it to our domain, but the WBINFO commands keep failing when I start SMB and WINBIND. I looked at the log files and found this interesting entry in the /var/log/samba/winbindd.log file: [2006/11/29 21:49:11, 1] nsswitch/winbindd.c:main(864) winbindd version 3.0.10-1.4E.9

Samba's winbind and SELinux conflict
Hi, I was trying to setup winbind on a CentOS 4 host to authenticate to the AD on my network. My smb.conf is very simple, I'm only setting workgroup, realm, security, and I'm setting for winbind: encrypt passwords = yes winbind separator = + idmap uid = 10000-20000 idmap gid = 10000-20000 When trying to start the service with "service winbind start", I'm

Can not open secrets.tdb. Win XP can't access Mac OSX 10.5.1.
I am a Mac user and am only using Samba to the extent that it is installed with Mac OS X. I am simply trying to share files between a Windows PC and my Mac laptop. I'm hoping that the error message below concerning the secrets.tdb file may be meaningful to someone on this list. I haven't had any luck yet with a similar post on Apple's forum. Before I upgraded to Leopard, I

AIX 4.3.3 smbd won't start
Hello, I have just downloaded Samba 2.2.7.a and I have tried to set it up on AIX 4.3.3 and am not having luck. Last week I installed samba on my linux machine and it works pretty well. The boss asked on Friday if I could set it up on my AIX machine. I have samba installed in /usr/local/samba. After running /usr/local/samba/smbd -D and /usr/local/samba/nmbd -D I can do this ps -aef |

SWAT: Non privileged user cannot access secrets.tdb
Dear samba-ers, I have installed SWAT so that my samba users can change their passwords easily and remotely as they do not have login access to the samba server. Broadly speaking my problem is that when registered as a user, it seems that swat cannot access the file /var/lib/samba/private/secrets.tdb Version info: Linux platform: CentOS 6.5 Linux Kernel: 2.6.32-431 Samba: 3.6.9-167.el6_5

net getlocalsid and net getlocalsid <domain>
Hi, does the output of the two commands really mean that the server FILESERVER is not in the domain?: # net getlocalsid SID for domain FILESERVER is: S-1-5-21-4161338278-3756552359-245403906 # net getlocalsid <domainname> SID for domain <domainname> is: S-1-5-21-2018781741-1218349122-1862352094 Is there another method to check if a server is in a domain? net getlocalsid can't fetch domain SID?
I'm running into an odd problem with my installation of samba, version 3.0.13. Samba is configured to use the tdbsam backend and is running as a PDC. The issue is that samba can't seem to report its SID correctly: # net getlocalsid [2005/07/08 12:27:30, 0] utils/net.c:net_getlocalsid(494) Can't fetch domain SID for name: DOMSERVR but, running an alternate command: # net rpc info

net getlocalsid: some questions
Hello, Is it possible to get the SID of a domain different than the one your server is in? e.g.: net getlocalsid ==> gives you the sid of the domain your server is in. but suppose you would like to know the SID of another domain. net getlocalsid DOMAIN2 ==> samba3 does not give the SID [root@server root]# net getlocalsid DOMAIN2 [2003/09/29 11:59:04, 0] utils/net.c:net_getlocalsid(414)

a little problem with net getlocalsid
My samba PDC is working very well. I only have an 'theoretical' question (I think). When I run 'net getlocalsid my-pdc', it fails (see below). I think this is because someday the name of my pdc was other! In fact 'net getlocalsid my-old-pdc-name' works! and that output is the same output obtained from running 'net getlocalsid my-domain' (as written on the
