Restoring domain Administrator
OK I did this before seeing the little note in the docs that said don't do this. Using samba 3.0.14a with ldap auth. Terpstra textbook setup from chapter 9 By Example. nsswitch passwd and group = files ldap I deleted the root user from the ldap directory and tried to re-add using smbldap-useradd -u 0 root -P It complained that uid already existed. Must've gotten that from passwd

Failover DC did not work when Main DC failed
My reverse zones have PTR records. Though I don't have NS records for all of my DC's. I guess that needs to be manually created. Also, you don't have any CNAMES or domain overrides pointing to a single DC? Perhaps Bind is pointing to another internal DNS server, and then to a public DNS? ---- Here's a way to test failover from a Windows client: You can switch logon servers

DsGetDomainControllerInfoW fails with level 2008+, works with 2003
Hello, I stumbled on this problem while troubleshooting a time synchronization problem. The Windows commands "w32tm /monitor" and "nltest /dclist:domain" appear to both use the same call to query the domain for a list of domain controllers. When the DC is Samba4 (2003 domain & forest level) these commands complete successfully. After raising the levels to 2008 or 2008_R2

Questions about CMT event statistic
Hi I'm testing cmt event of libvirt, and I have two questions. I will be very grateful if someone can give me some help. Q1:"virsh domstats --perf" and linux perf tool has different result. I have a guest with cmt event enabled, start guest and get perf statistic every 1s: # while true; do virsh domstats rhel7.2-1030 --perf; sleep 1; done In the meanwhile, I use perf tool to get

cannot start after "chown-ing" a directory
Unix solaris 10 samba 3.0.21b I am having a problem starting samba. I originally installed and started samba on a computer successfully, but realised I did not have the correct permissioning for the shared directory. I tried "chown" on the directory (in the path of the smb.conf file) whilst samba was still running. I then killed nmbd and smbd and tried re-starting everything.

questions about read datafile into R
Dear all: I have been thinking to import below one data file (.txt)into R by read.table(..,skip=1, header=T). But How can I deal with the repeated rows of TABLE NO.1 and names of data variables in the middle of this data file. The similar block will be repeated 100 times, here only show 4 of them and within each block, data records also can vary, here only paste 4 rows for example. I appreciate

Performance monotoring: Perf Event support
Hi everyone, I am using libvirt 2.5.0. I'd like to enable the "perf events" to monitoring my vm performance such as l3 cache. But it failed with "error: argument unsupported: unable to enable host cpu perf event for cmt". 1. Could you please give some hints on how to check if my host CPU supports cmt, mbm, is it displayed in /proc/cpuinfo? 2. Does the kernel version matters

Joining Windows Server 2012 to a Samba 3.5 or 3.6 domain
I have a samba classic domain, with a Samba 3.5.10 domain controller. I am trying to join a Windows Server 2012 R2 client. I have updated the registry. HKLM\SYSTEM\CCS\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters DWORD DomainCompatibilityMode 1 DWORD DNSNameResolutionRequired 0 These changes allow Windows 7 Pro desktops to join the domain. I have not tried with Windows 8 or

I've been trying to upgrade from samba 3.4.5 to 3.5.x (currently 3.5.3) on a Ubuntu 9.10 system where I compile my own Samba. The server is a PDC for several win2000 clients and uses an LDAP backend hosted on the same machine. After the upgrade, clients can connect to shares but can not perform domain logons. 3.5.3 does not build a browse list of other domains on the subnet. Executing

Shares visible depending on used share name's initial letter
Hi, I'm using latest Samba version 2.2.8a and are preparing a production server system, which was working fine recently in development stage. My system is basically a SuSE 8.2 Pro with some of the applications being installed manually from source. I'm using CUPS as printer backend and add printers to the system using lpadmin Afterwards I make a reload (or even a restart) of smbd and
