Group permissions and recursion
Hi, Now that we have successfully moved a first department share on to our mega SAMBA server, we're in the 20% of the old 80/20 rule. Our problem has to do with group permissions within the extended acl. We have implemented winbind along with the ADS security mode. This means that a user isn't just "jdoe", but is "MYDOMAIN\jdoe". We are using the extended ACL

setdriver fails with WERR_ACCESS_DENIED
Hi, I'm using samba 3.0.22 on a Linux/Debian machine. I'm trying to get printer drivers on the server automatically picked by the XP clients on the server. $ rpcclient localhost -U flavien -c 'enumdrivers' Password: [Windows NT x86] Printer Driver Info 1: Driver Name: [hp1] The user "flavien" has PrintOperator privileges : $ net rpc

Need help figuring out "homes" share path
Hi, We set up a server to manage departmental servers and we're using winbind inorder to be able to manage access via AD domain accounts/groups. And that's all working the way we want -- access to department shares is being managed by membership in domain groups in active directory. That same physical server also has a second available 2TB raid array where I want to add personal

Connecting to SAMBA for first time takes a very looong time
I'm running Samba 3.0.14a-2 on FC4 as a print server. The system is joined to the domain and I'm using the domain security model. Pretty much, it's configured like my old Samba 2.2.7 server (which this new box is replacing). On the PC side, printers are assigned to a user via a VBScript running under a group policy. The first time that script runs and tries to add the printer

REPOST: Problems with trust account passowrds ???
Hi, I'm getting near a thousand error messages a day on only one of my two samba servers that both participate in the same domain: [2004/02/16 09:17:52, 0] rpc_client/cli_trust.c:change_trust_account_password(248) 2004/02/16 09:17:52 : change_trust_account_password: Failed to change password for domain ITS. I'm confused about W2K rpcclient "getdriver" response
Hi, I'm trying to query a W2K PDC for printer driver information in order to install those same drivers on a SAMBA 2.2.7 server. I executed an enumdrivers ms-rpc call to get the list of drivers, but the getdriver command fails for all but a couple of the drivers. I've included a representative instance below: > cmd = getdriver "HP LaserJet 4050 Series PCL" > Error

What is WERR_ACCESS_DENIED
Hi, I searched through the list archives and saw this question asked but not answered, so I'm hoping someone can help me. I am trying to use rpcclient to set a printer driver and it's failing with the error message: WERR_ACCESS_DENIED. I've included the full output of the command at debug 4 level below. Here's the probably pertinent information. First, this use to work.

adddriver rpc command generates segmentation fault
Hi, I'm trying to add a printer driver to samba 2.2.7, part of the RedHat 9 distro. I have all the associated files under print$/W32X86 (I verified that they were where I thought they were from samba's POV by looking via smbclient). Below is the output from a getdriver command issued to a W2K PDC to get the names of all the required files for the particular printer: [Windows NT x86]

How do I set up trust relationships in SAMBA
Be nice -- I'm a SAMBA newbie, but at least I've got the O'Reilly book!! We want to use a SAMBA server to provide user accounts for a print charge-back system in our public student labs. Since this amounts to several thousand accounts which are already managed and current on our e-mail server, we don't want to try to replicate them and keep them synchronized on the NT PDC. For a

Problem compiling Icecast on RedHat
Hi, I'm trying to build Icecast on a RedHat AS3 workstation. All the requisite libraries are already bundled with the distro. IThe compile runs for maybe 30 seconds (maybe less) and then fails. The last few lines of the make output are appended below. I'm not even sure what it's actually complaing about. gcc -pthread -g -O2 -o icecast cfgfile.o main.o logging.o sighandler.o

Dave clients accessing Samba
Hi, We have about 2 dozen Mac OS9 computers running Dave 2.5.3 to access smb resources. Our print server, running Samba 2.2.7 (w/domain authentication), has no user accounts. PCs access the printers and print just fine, but the Macs using Dave get an authentication error of invalid user/password. They can access resources on the win2003 PDC. Any idea what's going on here specific to the

Problems using samba as a print server
Hi, I set up Samaba 2.2.7 on a RedHat 9 box to act as a print server. The Samba server is a member of the domain and will be sharing about a dozen printers. I am using lprng in conjunction with ifhp in order to do charge-back print accounting. But here's the glitch: the server is not hosting any file shares and basically has only a couple of local accounts. The result is that when domain

Samba 1.9.18p2 --> 1.9.18p8 on Solaris 2.6 breaks browsing ????
I upgraded from Samba 1.9.18p2 to Samba 1.9.18p8 on Solaris 2.6 and now browsing does not work for WIN95 (haven't tried NT), nor does Network Neighborhood even show the server. The builds for p2 and p8 are standard, the only difference in the user changeable portion of the makefile being the location of the man page directory. I am using the same smb.conf file for both versions, and the

How do I trim messages.tdb??
Hi, I've got a messages.tdb file that's currently 2.5GB in size. Is there a way to trim it down (and preferably keep it trimmed)? Can I simply delete it or zero its length by copying /dev/null to it? I'm need of an answer before I end up with a full file system. Thanks, Rob -- Rob Tanner UNIX Services Manager Linfield College, McMinnville OR

Problem using rpcclient as root user -- can't authenticate
I'm a Samba-3 newbie (all my previous experience is with Samba-2), and that may by the crux of the problem. Samba 3.0.14a-2 came bundled with Fedora Core. Since this server will be taking over the functions of the Samba-2, I copied the smb.conf file over and simply changed the netbios name. It uses a domain security model, and that has not changed. Also, using the rpc net command, I

2 issues using SAMBA as a print server
I am using SAMBA/Lprng to do printer accounting for charge-back. There are two technical issues I have not been able to resolve. 1. When attempting to connect to the printer from a Windows box in the domain (the SAMBA server is simply a server that's a member of the domain, it is not the PDC) I get the message that the server does not have the appropriate driver and then it pops up a setup

Files are being saved as read-only
Hi, I'm using extended ACLs and winbind so that file ownerships and permissions are directly tied to domain accounts (e.g., owner is MYDOMAIN\myname). My problem is that when a user opens up, modifies, and then saves the file, the user's UNIX level permissions change from 'rw-' to 'r--' -- in other words, the write permission gets dropped. I've played with the
