XP Joining domain
I'm attempting to join a Samba 3.0.4 domain on a Debian linux box, with a Windows XP client. Problems 1) Can only get the join to work if I use the root account. On Win2k I can use any account in the Domain Admins group. 2) The join succeeds, the unix account and the smb account are created but the smb account is disabled, and the password contains all XXXXs. Joining the domain works

trouble joining win xp machines to samba with ldap backend DC
Greetings, I would like some help figuring this out. I really don't know what to do anymore. whenever I try to join an XP machine to the domain it comes up that username or password is not correct. However I know that the credentials are correct, but when I check the logs of that specific machine, this comes up: [2010/09/24 11:42:38, 5] auth/auth_util.c:make_user_info_map(161)

Unable to mount SMB drive
I have a Windows Server 2003 system I'm trying to back up to a Linux host. when I access the share with smbclient, I can "see" the files (`ls` returns a list of files, etc) smbclient -U shareuser //server/sharename password But, when I try to actually mount the drive, I get "permission denied" errors trying to access the drive. (EG: using `df`) Running the following

Mounting Samba shares with Kerberos
Good day, I have installed a couple of Linux machines where I want to mount various Samba shares. So far, I (and various other users) do this using a credentials file, because nobody has ever been able to properly configure everything needed such that the shares can be mounted using the login credentials. However, from time to time, I try again to set things up properly. So here it goes: people

Samba + LDAP: Issue adding machine.
Greetings. I've run into a trouble when trying to add a new Win7 machine on a domain. The domain is controlled by a server running Samba + LDAP (samba compiled with ldap support), on a Debian 5 OS at the local network. I've added the machine name to the LDAP three through phpldapadmin using the option "Samba3 Machine" on the related submenu and via terminal on samba. Then I

Hello all, I am doing some tests with Windows 7 and a Samba Domain, but into a working SAMBA domain, where windows XP joins without problems, when i try with 7 i recieve an error like "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed.". Is kerberos authentication against AD possible without joining the domain?
On CentOS (and presumably RHEL), the authconfig tool can set up kerberos authentication via PAM so that locally added users can be authenticated at the shell/ssh level if the password they use succeeds for the matching user name in Active Directory - and this works without joining the linux box to the domain. Now I'd like those linux users to be able to map their home directories from a

"Temporary authentication failure" ? Cant connect with ldap user
The ldap-utils were already installed. I did the ldapsearch you gave me, but after inputting my admin password it gives me *ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49)* I logged into the ldap server with my admin credentials (which worked fine) and changed my password to '12345', Trying that, still *Invalid credentials* . 1.) I tried that already. The error switches to syntax error then. 2.) Not

Issue providing seamless migrtion (3.0.24 to 3.5.6) - sambaNTPassword mystery
Hello everyone, I am operating a migration of samba from 3.0.24 (mysql passdb backend) to 3.5.6 (openldap passdb), samba working as a domain controller (PDC) and file share. The main challenge is to provide a seamless migration for users. For this new version, I am using smbldap-tools 0.9.6, nss_ldap, openldap 2.4. Everything run on FreeBSD 8.2. To get used to samba, I have managed to make

Joining DC
I am having some trouble joining a new samba4 server as a DC. I am pretty sure this stems from trying to use OpenChange and subsequently removing it. The new samba4 machine is running 4.0.7 and the existing is running 4.0.1. I am a little hesitant to do an in-place upgrade of the last working DC, so I wanted a replica to fall back on in case things go bad. Any help would be appreciated. On the

XP Joining Samba Domain
I have successfully joined the XP machine to the domain. The strange part is, that it only wanted to be joined if it connected to the PDC and not the BDC. The way it is set-up is that the XP machine and a BDC is in one branch and the PDC is in another. Every time I would try to connect via the BDC, it would return a value ACCESS DENIED I stopped the smb service on the BDC, and got it to

Windows 7 + Samba domain issues
Hi all, Earlier I emailed the list on some issues I was having with Windows 7, and one of those issues was the trust relationship breaking down after one month. I think I have some more light to shed on this topic. First, some environmental facts I am running Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 with Samba 3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1 I have installed the latest LDAP schema into OpenLDAP 2.4.18-0ubuntu1 I have a working

"Temporary authentication failure" ? Cant connect with ldap user
@Steffen Kaiser: Sorry I wrote that wrong. I did indeed *grep -v '^ *\(#.*\)\?$' dovecot-ldap.conf.ext* to get those results. @Bob Miller: And how would that look like? I added a auth_bind_userdn looking like this: *auth_bind_userdn = uid=%u,dc=[hostname],o=de* And restartet dovecot, no use. Any other ideas? XP machine wont join domain
Hi I'm on ubuntu 10.04 LTS fully up to date. Am running a samba-ldap server but for some reason I can't connect a new fully updated XP machine to the domain. I've added other machines (6 months ago now, none since) successfully. I see a file /var/log/samba/log.machinename, but /var/log/samba/log.nmbd and /var/log/samba/log.smbd don't have anything of note. Using 'net rpc

XP fails to cache Domain Credentials
My win2000 laptop caches the domain credentials so I can log into the computer when disconnected from the network. However, Windows XP SP2 laptops cannot. I get a "domain unavailable error" even though the local security profile on the laptop is set to allow domain credential caching. My other client, with XP laptops and a Windows 2000 server, has no problem. Is this a Samba 3.0.8

Help in "joining" Linux on AD domain.
Hello all! Is anybody there who can help me in the task of having my Linux-box joined our AD Windows 2000 Server? I'm using Fedora Core 1, I've installed samba and krb5-workstation and SWAT. I configured samba, but I would like to check it with some of you! In fact, I get following errors when trying to join: [root@boniforti root]# net ads join DOM-VCO -U Administrator Administrator
