smbldap-tools 8.3 populate errors
I downloaded the new 8.3 (tgz format) ldap-tools from IDEALX today. When I run the smbldap-populate script I receive an error that it cannot find the smbldap_tools.pm file. This file was not included in the tar file. If I use the tools file from the samba 3.0.2pre1 distribution it is then expecting the old smbldap_conf.pm file which has now been split in favor of the /etc/smbldap-tools config. I

Automatically assigning uidNumber / gidNumber attributes
All, I'm working on a script to automatically assign uidNumber and gidNumber attributes to users. I have a few questions: 1) Which users should be excluded from this assignment? I'm currently using this LDAP filter (simplified syntax used here): (objectClass=user) & (objectCategory=Person) & ~(sAMAccountName=krbtgt*) Specifically, based on recent conversations, I'm

Wierd failure when adding W2K to Samba3.0.0+LDAP Domain
Dear list I have been at it for a few day trying to get my SuSE 8.2 server (FREESIDE) to produce a domain (SKOGFARET) for my Windows 2000 Server machine (BABYLON). I use OpenLDAP, and the setup seems to work in most ways, except the vital one [ie. I can mount shares, print, etc...] When I try to add W2K (BABYLON) to the domain, I get the following error: "The following error occured

Using People for Machine accounts
Using Samba 3.0.2pre1 under SuSE 8.2. I have seen several references now in this list noting that the browse for machine accounts in Samba 3 is broken, and 'People' should be used instead. I changed smb.conf to 'ldp machine suffix = ou=People' and I changed smbldap_conf.pm to '$computersou=(People). I then cleared ldap, ran smbldap-populate.pl, and changed the uid of

Problem with Winbind and Windows Clients
Yes, thats possible also, but i dont know if thats possible with the KDC settings from samba. I dont use them, If you want, you can set things like in GPO, but normaly not needed imo.   So i suggest, remove the KDC settings, restart the DC?s, reboot the computer and wait what happpens.   Maybe Rowland or an other samba Dev can tell more about the KDC setting, but i can, just dont know,

LDAP Queries
Guys needing some help with LDAP queries against samba4 this command works against MS AD's LDAP (&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(mail=*)(!(userAccountControl:1.2.840.113556.1.4.803:=2))) but with samba4 I get C:\Users\Administrator>dsquery * --filter (&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(mail=*)(!(userAccountControl:1.2.840.113556.1.4.803:=2))) I get the

[Samba 4.5] Very slow LDAP Queries (almost unusable), performance tunning ?
Dear users, We are facing to a big latency issue regarding the LDAP Server (both encrypted & plain). We have a Zarafa mail server which makes a lot of queries and puts a samba process to 100% usage. This latency makes the mail server unusable.. The mail server was previously on OpenLDAP and there was not performance issues. A simple LDAP query can take up to 25 sec to perform !! We

Bug#475553: Patch for logcheck-rules
Hi, after we switched to rsyslog with high precision timestamps logcheck did not match the timestamps any more. A patch adding the high precision timestamp format is attached. The rules now match both the traditional timestamp format and the high precision timestamp format (with or without microseconds). Yours sincerely, Ralf D?blitz -- Ralf D?blitz r.doeblitz at asco.de Tel 0531/3906-116

[Samba 4.5] Very slow LDAP Queries (almost unusable), performance tunning ?
No, you have to do that manualy, or look the the samba4 ADS script for kopano ( or zarafa ) But I mostly follow the documentation.   And when i run : time ldbsearch -H /var/lib/samba/private/sam.ldb -s base -b @INDEXLIST .... real    0m0.230s user    0m0.184s sys     0m0.044s   so if yours take more that 20 sec there is something very wrong. I suggest check you samba AD database and

SAMBA configuration nightmare (AIX) - idmaps do not work (core dump), ldap/nss_ldap and pam fail
Well, I have tried really hard to get any of the idmaps to work--in that, idmap_ads, idmap_rid, and I have tried to use idmap stroage in ldap with padl (nss_ldap) too, but I have had no luck. If I enable pam in /usr/lib/security/methods.cfg or nss_ldap, I cannot log into the system anymore. If I enable pam in /etc/pam.conf and use in /etc/security/users SYSTEM = "WINBINd or WINBIND[UNAVAIL]

Is there any problem that can arise from remapping gidNumber?
This morning I remapped gidNumber from primaryGroupID to gidNumber. I did that because I could not change the integer in primaryGroupID wit ldbedt as root. I mapped to to a new attribute called gidNumber which has no specific meaning in samba. Is there any potential problems that can arise from doing that. Is there a better way to fix that problem?
